Winter 2012 Anime Thread 2.22: You Can (Not) Outpost Cajunator

I do hope Phi Brain gets a bigger budget for season 2. Just enough so faces don't look 'melted' at every shot.

Do we know how well its doing? It doesnt have a large fandom at least in my view (ie not much fan art) so I thought it wasnt that popular.

Regardless I think it gave it a certain charm and they reserved much of the budget for puzzle visuals (the laser sword puzzle and the motorcycle one, and the beams ones).

Maturity, bitches.
Well I guess I'll just have to rewatch Gintama from the beginning every Monday to fill this blackhole in my heart.

Wanted to watch this for a while. After watching it, it wasn't... too bad. Some parts were more interesting than others, though the movie leaves me nothing of value.

Gintama' - 252 (END)

We're just waiting for the producer's hair to grow long again.

Loved the montage at the end.

Oh Sunrise, you really know how to toy with us.

Gintama 252

That's a wrap, Gintama is off the air for another year. I probably should be disgusted by some of the stuff in this episode. Fortunately (or unfortunately) Gintama is long since desensitized me.

Highlights of todays episode.

Watch around five episodes a week and you'll be through the series just in time for the next season to start. It's a perfect time for newbies to pick up watching Gintama.

I love the juxtaposition of visuals and music. But do I have to watch any of the previous Lupin works to understand this one?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but based on my experience, Lupin is really easy to get into due to a basic premise.

Lupin is the cool thief, Jigen and Goemon are his boys and Fujiko is usually there just to use Lupin for her own needs and to screw them over most of the time.

Or you can read the long version on Wikipedia:

Plot said:

Arsène Lupin III, the grandson of the fictional gentleman thief, Arsène Lupin, is considered the world's greatest thief, known for announcing his intentions to steal valuable objects by sending a calling card to the owners of his desired items. His right-hand man and closest ally is Daisuke Jigen, an expert marksman who can accurately shoot a target in 0.3 seconds. Although Lupin and Jigen frequently work as a two-man team, they are often joined by Goemon Ishikawa XIII, a master swordsman whose sword can cut anything, or Fujiko Mine, a femme fatale and Lupin's love interest. Although Fujiko usually works together with the others, she occasionally exploits Lupin's interest in her to steal the treasure for herself. Lupin and his gang are constantly chased by Inspector Koichi Zenigata of the ICPO, who has made it his life's work to arrest them, chasing Lupin across the globe.

I think you'll be fine.

First they have to finish the Index movie, and then we can get Railgun 2.

Mirai Nikki 23

Wowowow really love the reveal in this episode, especially how they kept Akise's message until the later part, and how they ended it with a face off. =D

The Light of El Cantare
I must admit, the anime did a good job moe'fying' Isanami although they censor and cut out alot of the material.

wait

are you saying

that there's a manga?

Hit me up with some spoilers, it'll make my Brave 10 experience all the funnier in retrospect if it turns out that it's a bad adaptation on top of everything else.

Unfortunately the anime way beyond the translation of the manga. Plus theres a sequel to manga call Brave 10 S.

Gintama 252

It goes out as it lived, unrepentant to its last breath. Rest well, sweet Prince. May you store up your strength to emerge ever more triumphant on the morrow. Until that day...

I'd think that there would be a lot more. The anime was basically 10 episodes of setup that went straight into 2 episodes of climax and felt like something that could have easily come from a single manga volume. Maybe the manga just has horrible pacing too, heh.

Next week's action sakuga watch list:

April 1 - Saint Seiya Omega Ep1
April 4 - Lupin the Third - The woman named Fujiko Ep1
April 6 - Accel World Ep1
April 6 - Japacon TV Opening
April 7 - Fate/Zero Ep14

These episodes from the upcoming season are pretty much confirmed to have relatively outstanding action sequences. But that's not all, there are also other possibly worthwhile shows which probably won't have action in them coming next week:

April 1 - Space Brothers
April 5 - Natsuiro Kiseki
April 7 - Mysterious Girlfriend X

And this is just the start! There'll be more shows coming in the following weeks! The Spring 2012 Thread better be up before April 1! :p

With the exception of Fate/Zero, that's a nice list of shows starting!

It'll be funny (and somewhat sad) if, after having to watch Ueki for the right to create the thread, Miri never finishes it and gets sniped at the beginning of April.

I didn't realize Accel World was on the sakuga watch list. What would be the reason for this? Personally, I'd expect more out of Zetman.

If Miri can't finish the thread, I'd be happy to.

Accel world switches between the online world, which is full of tournaments and battles, and the real world. A huge part of it is the online battle arena, so you can expect some good stuff there.

Lol. Yeah, it'll be up tomorrow. I'm actually gathering PVs now.

And talking about PVs, that new Lupin PV is fantastic. Hype through the roof for that one.

Ah, the ol' switcheroo

plot.

I really need to stop getting lazy when it comes to glorious potential gif creation.

Cute episode on
following and striving your dreams without chickening out of your reality.
Hoping the next one brings more Twenty. (Requesting for moar Twenty?! What's wrong with me?!)

Sunrise recently had a screening for ep1-2 I believe, and the people who saw it were pretty impressed. The staff made a comment that they were aiming for movie-level animation for the action sequences. How solid it is remains to be seen, but there's decent staff on board anyway. Yousuke Kabashima is the Duel Avatar designer as well as the action director, while the main animators for the show are Hisayuki Tabata and Nozomu Abe.

Considering the style of the Duel Avatar designs, and the fact that the action animation isn't done with CG, it could very well be on the same level as Sacred Seven at least.

Yeah, we're just over 500 posts, we can reach it today.

Quick, somebody marathon Morita-san and Randsell and post about each episode individually!

doing my part, I'm going to try to get caught up with Chihayafuru today

Suite Precure Movie: Blah Blah Long Title
Oh, and I can't go without mentioning this--in hilariously predictable Precure fashion, the plastic shit merchandising extended all the way to the theater. Apparently kids were given light-up wands to wave to cheer the Cures on (and are even beckoned in-movie at the climax by Hummy to power up the Cures with their light, which is probably the first instance I've ever seen of a deus ex machina that requires breaking the fourth wall).

You're just bitter that you weren't properly equipped to fully enjoy the movie. I, on the other hand...
FPxBW.jpg

...am always fully prepared for watching Precure. Except I've not seen the Suite movie yet. Or Suite TV after about episode 18, come to think of it.

Actually, I've not been watching fansubs at all since the start of this season, thanks to a combination of game releases, streaming stuff and having way too much anime backlogged on disk media to chew through. I can't say I've particularly missed them either, but Smile Precure is the one bandwagon I've been sorely tempted to jump on.

Huh, that sounds promising. Maybe I'll give this one a watch after all.
