I only donated while at work without reading much of this thread. Just read through this whole thread with teared up eyes.
As someone living in Germany where you don't have healthcare bills like you have in the US I found it to be even more important to donate.

Donated 5$. Hopefully it helps. Also seriously. It really boggles my mind how someone can defend US healthcare system. There was thread about ridiculous defense forces in GAF. this would be one of those.
I mean even though I would disagree with those who argue universal health care is a bad thing, I could at least respect their position if we had a health care system that made it so that if you were responsible and did buy into health insurance that you didn't have to worry about the financial end of things - everything should be paid from the second you buy insurance.
Here we have a situation where my Mom has been insured for nearly 30 years and the health care she has keeps getting worse, and because my Mom is always so ill the costs are astronomical. It's absurd. We should have been worrying about being with my Mom during this time, for as long as it takes, instead of trying to worry about money.
This system is so fucked in this country.
I don't remember having any disagreements with you, but it's never personal. Appreciate you not letting your personal foibles with me affect what you think about my mom and donating. She's a great person...

UPDATES:
1. After much heated discussion between the DaVita dialysis center and my mom's health insurance company, the insurance agreed that if they are sent a letter of medical necessity over dialysis @ home, they will cover three of the treatments per week, but we'd have to cover the other two. Those two would amount to approx. $1000. So that'd be $4000 on the dialysis alone per month, before factoring in the rest of my mom's immense medical bills.
2. The alternative to this is apparently buying into some sort of alternative supplemental insurance which they said they might make an allowance to give my mom accessibility there, but that process would take many months and that'd be many months of torture for my mom until it all went through. But in the end it'd be cheaper, because the supplemental insurance is X amount per month (not sure precisely what yet), and they said with that we'd have to pay maybe $1000 per month instead.
3. Current Medical Bills Debt since September 2011 (my mom said I can share this), and this is with all my savings going into help her and all my Dad's savings and his working 16 hour days 6 days a week and me sending my mom huge chunks of my weekly checks: $18,683.
4. Today we finally got a camera, so we'll be updating the thank you video sometime later today. My Mom cannot thank you guys enough.
5. We're going to be doing a HELP A MOM ON MOTHER'S DAY drive on May 13, 2012. Our goal would be to raise $1000 on that day. So I'll send out some letters and hopefully you guys help can spread the word when it's time.
Once again, thank you guys for everything you've done. This has been such a pleasant experience and it has really helped shift my Mom's mood dramatically even before she can afford the dialysis @ home treatment. So this has done some good in my eyes even if the world exploded and we never get the funds. You guys are great.

That's great to hear. Honestly, just lifting her spirits does more than money ever would.
When does that website disperse funds? Do you have to make your goal before it's distributed?
Just wanted to apologize for the lack of thank you video. My mom has had a really rough week in dialysis and simply has been sleeping most of the week, so we're going to try to get her to record a short video on her cellphone which might just be the easiest way.

Hello everyone. I don't mean to be an alarmist, but I suggest people who have used Give-Forward website check their accounts for any fraud. Long story short, shortly after donating to the company based in Chicago IL, My account was hit with some fraudulent activity stemming from the IL area. I've had no history of purchases in IL, online or off. And am a Los Angeles resident. It could be purely coincidental, but better safe than sorry.
