That mario galaxy screen is enough to see there will be beautiful games for wiiu.
This particular game left an imprint (still talking graphically) in the landscape of this generation, and seeing how tech demos are now at a point where you have to know a bit about what's going on to be really "impressed", the good thing is that it will reinforce the need for strong art direction. I still get the sense that art is considered "bonus" in favor of tech, and sadly not just from gamers.

But still, the more problematic thing is ending this trend of middling support from third parties and being a viable console in this department against the two others.
Nothing is set in stone for now, and there are a lot of questions, like the level of downgrade from multiplatform games or not getting them at all.
I think the talk about wiiu power should be more in this direction, cause like I said, we know there will be impressive things.

Iwata acknowledged poor sales in the West and specifically pointed to E3 as the time they will announce new software to turn that around. A bad June NPD will not shock or worry anyone at Nintendo, nor should it surprise or worry anyone here.

Yet. Why wouldn't they be making a 3DS Pokemon?
well, not for June and July at least.

The only 3DS games getting release from now till the end of July, worth mentioning, are Mario Tennis (and Heroes of Ruin which no one will buy anyway)

But maybe even DS games can spark 3DS sales?

WW HD shots never cease to amaze me; technique and art direction of the game is the definition of not getting old

Nintendos easiest game ever to re-release on Wii U in HD, add widescreen and up resolution to 1920x1080 and go through textures make sure there are no low-res blurry once present, DONE.

The fact that it's not announced yet means that it's well over a year away. Can 3DS even remain a viable platform in the west until then? It's already back to pre-price drop sales, which means it'll probably start losing support again.

So it has been supposed that the Wii U GPU has some nonstandard lighting capabilities. Does this make a lot of sense? I mean, it's not like lighting is something that Nintendo games use more than everyone else's. If there were a much more efficient way to go about common lighting functions, why wouldn't that already be part of the standard designs?

Frankly, it's Ace Attorney. Unless the game turns out to be a steaming pile (which hasn't happened yet...), I'll be thrilled.

I remember being fairly impressed by Magic Carpet and Hi-Octane, actually. Not sure why I liked the latter, but I did, so it kind of holds some nostalgic factor for me.

For me it's always been Hi-Octane >>>>>> Wipeout. Screw superspeed cars, just get a 18-wheeler and nuke the shit out of everyone on the track!

The DS never had good support in the west.

Nonstandard in what way? I mean, does it support UE4's all-dynamic lighting structure or something...?

What?

New Super Mario Bros has sold almost 50 million units across two games. I think they'll be ok.

There no such a thing as "lighting capabilities" in modern GPUs. They run shader programs and that's all. Even when you play old DirectX 7 games in them, the entire fixed function stuff is replicated by using built-in shaders in the BIOS/drivers.

Nintendo might be working on a graphics middleware to aid Wii developers that provides fixed-function style access to stuff like lighting and material management, but it's still all software-based.

Uh, yes it can. Did you forget about the upcoming Mario game? And Animal Crossing.

Mario Kart and SM3DL failed to save it. Honestly, I think it's a dead platform outside of Japan until they can cut another $50 off the price. NSMB2 will only keep it up until the holiday season. By February next year, it'll be comatose again.

Of course it can, those sold 3DS's don't suddenly disappear, still a viable platform (especially compared to the 1.8million units sold competition)

It's not a dead platform. April 2012 was a very slow month in the industry.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Nothing for 3DS has been announced yet...

Don't forget there's that 3DS Pokemon capture game thing which will allow players to more easily collect certain Pokemon for B/W2. So, while it's not a 3DS game, there's advantages to playing it on the 3DS.

If there's something highly customized, it's probably simply not DX or OpenGL compliant. As in: To get the desired results, the design needs to be so different that it would either be highly inefficient if used with any standard API, or it would simply incompatible from the get go.

Also, I don't think the GPU would have hardwired effects in a traditional sense. It'd be about custom low level functions. To give an example: More than a decade ago, Siemens created a chip that had an independent iteration unit for the register file running in parallel with the actual execution unit. That design was unique back then, and could perform certain functions more than 40 times faster than comparable processors at the time. I would think that this was similar to what we'd be looking at here.

Do you remember everyone saying that you shouldn't take part in Sales-Age?

You REALLY shouldn't take part in Sales-Age.

Also, I'd be amazed if Nintendo didn't release a B/W2 pokemon 3DS bundle with the game and a code to download the extra games.

Uh, yes they did. And as qq said this is a slow time of the year, NSMB2 and AC are on the way and we have no idea what surprises the 3DS E3 lineup will have in store. You worry way to much. This is a portable system which is in no way, shape or form comatose (like the Vita which is beyond comatose at this point).
