Seinfeld is a timeless monument to modern culture. Believing anything less would be...uncivilized.

Seriously, I really do believe the show is timeless. Technology changes and some scenarios are now outdated because of it, but the show's incredibly revealing exposes on social tension and awkwardness remain unparalleled in a "pop" sitcom. There is a Seinfeld for every situation.

God bless this show. For the record, I am 23.

I agree so much. I watched Seinfeld in 2008/9 and it was just so so awesome still. Best show ever. Yes there is a Seinfeld for every situation. Not a day passes when I dont use a Seinfeld reference in at least one situation.

I actually find Friends funny. In any case, it's funnier than Seinfeld.

With this single post you have invalidated your entire OP, and thereby fore-fitted your right to voice an opinion on anything related to TV comedy for the REST OF YOUR LIFE.

My friend used to have roommates that loved watching friends. They had zero personality and were the most unfunny people I've ever met. Most of the people I've met who express a liking for Friends strike me as the type of people who's idea of a crazy night involved having one too many white wine spritzers after bowling and forgot to return their shoes.

Alas you are entitled to your own opinions no matter how helplessly misguided they are.
But at least you did try to watch.

People who post lists of their favorite Katy Perry songs shouldn't be allowed to make threads?

jk OP...i can somewhat see where you're coming from because my wife doesn't like Seinfeld either. I'm more neurotic and over-analyzing whereas she's more carefree, trusting, and doesn't like nuance. It's not a bad thing, just different. No need to be inflammatory though.

Goddamn the OP's opinion is fucking awful.

And people saying Two And A Half Men is better? No way. WTF. This is coming from someone that has chuckled at that show too.

Does it get better once the fat kid hits puberty?

Yes, and no. It gets funnier for a while, then it turns into crap.

Two and a Half Men has the biggest drop in quality I've ever seen. And yes, it was much better than Seinfeld. This show is way too overrated on GAF.

How do you explain to a person with no sense of humor what "funny" is? It's like explaining colors to a person who was born blind.

I, for one, think it's not overrated enough.

You had to grow up in the 90s to appreciate how ground-breaking it was for its time. And I'm not even American.

it can't be because Korey is young. I watched the show from the first season when I was 10-11 years old or so. and I found it hillarious. I think that a lot of kids are growing up a lot more sheltered than even my generation and the nuances of the human condition excape them now more than ever.

I was gonna post something in this topic but I wouldn't even know where to begin, so I just backspaced and left, until this post at least.

I tried watching the show so many times. I kept convincing myself that I was the problem and that if I just tried harder it would become funny.

Wasn't until Bee Movie came out (same guy, same humor) that I came to accept that the show really was genuinely unfunny except for a handful of gem episodes.

Holy shit, this thread's out of control!

I'm down with this thread. I've been trying to get to the funny in seinfeld for years.

I really don't get Seinfeld's popularity and have simply chalked it up as "different strokes for different folks." One of my roomates in college was about as straight-laced and square as they come. He was a super nice guy but damn if he wasn't the most boring and bland person I'd ever met. I remember every fucking weekday at 7 in the evening he would stop whatever he was doing, haul ass to the living room, and turn on Seinfeld. I would hear him laughing his ass off in there, like so hard he was gasping for breath at times. One day I sat down to watch a few episodes with him and it was like we were watching two entirely different shows. Although every fiber of my being wanted to flee from the unfunny beaming from our TV, I forced myself to sit through 2 complete, back to back episodes and concluded it was the worst thing I'd ever seen. To this day if I hear that fucking bass riff, my right eye starts twitching.

That Bee Movie comment is fucking gold, lol.

I just finished watching all of Seinfeld straight through for the first time (I'm 18). There is no generation gap, the humour is timeless regardless of if you find it funny or not. Personally I'd put it as the best comedy show I've seen, outside of borderline hating the finale.

He already said Friends.

Sorry I should have quoted the posts I was referring to. There have been a few new strong haters on this page. I'm just want some context.

How could you hate the finale? It's the perfect ending.

All these Seinfeld threads do is remind me of the question "why is it not out on bluray yet??" One of these days that dvd collection is gonna be super cheap and I'll buy it and within the next week blurays'll be announced -_-

So after hearing from my older friends about how great Seinfeld is for years, and as a Curb Your Enthusiasm fan, I finally took the time to give it a go. Some people recommend skipping the first season or two to get to the good stuff, so I started at Season 3.

I'm 16 episodes in ("The Fix-Up") and I've laughed maybe two times. Laugh is a strong word. Maybe "chuckled" is more appropriate. I just don't get it. What is funny about this series? Obviously Curb Your Enthusiasm is much more modern so it's more relatable, but Seinfeld just seems utterly unfunny to me. Like, on Two and a Half Men levels.

And what's the deal with Jerry Seinfeld's comedy routines interspersed in the episodes? Was he actually a stand up comic back then or is it just for the show? I actually feel terrible for people who lived back then if that's what passed for stand up comedy. It's just so corny and unfunny that it's not even funny (no pun intended). He makes Dane Cook seem like the most hilarious person alive.

It's CRAZY how unfunny this show is.

Just...gah. Sorry, I can't express in words how unfunny this show is. It's just terrible. Between this and Blade Runner I'm almost convinced there's something wrong with everyone from that generation

Oh man. It's like your in my head. Ditto to bladerunner too.

Seinfeld is one of the best shows EVER. Not as good as The Wonder Years but golf ham, still brilliant.

Many replies have joked and nailed the point but it nailed what it went for. Was a very smart show too with intellectual and often times mature humor.

Who can forget Steinbreners, "I AM GETTING NERVOUS", line!??!

I think Seinfeld is funny but Friends > Seinfeld.

I also didn't find Blade Runner to be anything special when I watched it probably 5 years ago. A friend and I watched that and we just looked at each other like "This is what everyone has been raving about?" I should rewatch it though and see if I gain anything from it now that I'm older.

Come on. If your going to shit on Seinfeld, at least give us some examples of things you think are actually funny.

For reference:
Some TV shows I find funny: South Park, Robot Chicken, Fresh Prince, Three Stooges
Some movies i find funny: Anchorman, Hot Rod, Kung Pao, 40 Year Old Virgin, Borat

There mere thought of Friends>Seinfeld irritates me. Friends became something IN PART because Seinfeld was a huge hit and basically put the red carpet out for Friends to take the baton. Friends couldn't even hold a candle to Seinfeld. It's not even an argument.
