Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of The Patriots 2.0 |OT| Kept you waiting, huh?

Yeah, quite ridiculous if you ask me... if this was a game that was designed to be replayed (Demon's Souls, Diablo 3, etc) then it would make sense... but MGS4? Come on ._.

With the per-chapter installs gone and with an option to skip all the cut-scenes, it's not THAT bad.

And with all the gameplay options and hidden stuff, MGS is pretty much as replayable as a stealth-action game can be.

Yeah, I felt the need to replay the game pretty much as soon as I finished it (to fill in the gaps in the story I didn't understand first time around), but stopped as soon as I found the game was installing again. The full install makes it much more accessible for replays.

Now that you can install the whole thing from the get go, does it still show the cigarette warning between each chapter?

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
I understand that MGS4 is replayable, for sure. I think I've beaten it like 5 times now...

But eight times, like really?

Question(spoiler MGS4):
After the fight with Raging Raven a cutscene plays where you meetup with Ocelot, and then Snake and Ocelot fight. Ocelot tells snake when it comes to CQC he has the upper hand. How the flock does Ocelot have the upper hand with CQC?
Simple.
Remember MGS2? Snake's fighting Liquid Ocelot, not Revolver Ocelot. So devoted he is to his mission to shut down the Patriots, Ocelot's completely taken on the persona of the one man who dogmatically drove himself to be superior to Big Boss and Solid Snake. Someone like that versus Old Snake who only started to practice CQC again in recent time because PMC troopers were starting to imitate, it's no contest.

At least, I think so. Geez, I thought I washed my hands of this game a while ago. >_>

Back in the day I beat this game at least 13 times in both English and Japanese. My English play file was missing 6 of those inane "X Alerts X Kills X Continues" emblems before I came to my senses.

My first PS3 game... I feel like I need to have some of its trophies in my account

If only I knew what to delete in order to re-install this

You should visit ps3trophies sometimes
I was a hardcore trophy-farmer for 2 consecutive years before I completely quit wasting my time with such silly things :lol I definitely know what people are willing to do for platinums.

I believe my latest save of MGS4 from 4-ish years ago was on round 9, and I wasn't even going for emblems... I just really liked the game

edit: I did do a BBE run, though, and I am dreading having to do it again

The installs were annoying, yes, but the were also... I don't know... unique to MGS4, and mega-stylish. They were breaks between the story acts, like with a TV series. It just didn't strike me as a big flaw, initially.

But that was during the first playthrough. During the fourth.... yeah. Glad it's different now.

I always rationalised it as
Snake might look like an old guy, but he's only around 40ish in MGS4. Ocelot actually is old, and has been training in CQC since the '60s. He's been practicing CQC for twice as long as Snake has, makes sense that he'd be better at it.

Yeah, they made the best of the installs and actually made them memorable in a way. I guess if you HAVE to have mid-game installs like that, thats the way to do it.

They really hampered the game later on, though. I always have multiple MGS saves before all my favorite moments so I can relive them whenever I want. MGS4 made that an ordeal.

The installs were 'cool' and very MGS-esque in their portrayal. But if I want to revisit an older chapter, I don't want to reinstall that chapter again, because that's just fucked up.

Its actually pretty cool that the Ps3 didn't have a trophy system right away.

I dusted off MGS4 after 3 or so years just because of this patch, and plan on beating the game yet again. There would be little reason to do so if this game featured all that shit right away. Still mind boggling that this game never received a Subsistence version.

But here we go again... party like its 2008!

I'm no MGS guy (play part of 2), but I enjoyed 4 enough to finish it. Confusing? Yes, but really wild and love the boss fights. I kept my disc all these years just in case something like this patch happened. Hope to load it back up soon. Why work the back log when you can replay games?!

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Is there a site that provides the patch so I can download it via my laptop? The PS3 update download is taking foreeeeeever.

Just talked to my buddy at a local GS and he said they had two used copies of MGS4 and just sold both of them since they opened this morning.

Hahaha. It begins.

Shit, I think I killed all the PMC dudes since they didn't have anything and held them all up to where they didn't have any more items. Am I fucked in that militia versus PMC area in Act 1, The One Who Knocks?

I still need to get a few more hold-ups and frisking their balls out of the way. :(

I'm one of the biggest trophy freaks out there, but 8 playthroughs to get a platinum is just too much for me. Mega kudos to those who attempt this, and pull it off!!!

I can't get over how weapons disappear whenever you open a locker, climb something or drop down from somewhere. NPCs don't suffer from this, adding insult to injury. They also move much better than Snake. Transitions are smoother, direction changes too.

:) Almost exactly what I wanted to post.

Finished 2 and 3 on my Vita and enjoyed the experience more than ever.
I'm actually hyped to replay part 4 now

I've been waiting for this patch as well but it seems like a ton of work to get platinum for this game.. ah well at least I don't have to endure the installs.

Red Zone
I highly advise you get Ant and Gibbon out of the way immediately, despite that you will be doing this chain of actions frequently regardless. Run up the stairs and use the enemy at the top for this. After holding up an enemy proceed to search them (press triangle). After this, put them in a chokehold (hold R1 tightly) and kill them (by holding it down long enough). After holding him up, searching and choking him to death, exit the area and re-enter. You need to do this fifty times. You're now guaranteed two emblems, Ant and Gibbon and are halfway to Bear. This time, go to the statue and get up. Then press triangle to censor it. Do this three more times to break off the most important part of the statue and earn "Handle with Caution". Carry on as normal by going to the goal.

I don't know if something changed during the patch but re-entering the red zone in act 1 does not re spawn the enemy at the top of the stairs.

They probably made Snake's animations less detailed than NPCs for the sake of more fluid control. I wish they patched in the crouch-walking animation from Peace Walker, it was a nice improvement over MGS4's animation.

Also, when using nightvision, goddamn it makes me really wish the game was 60 FPS. So smooth.

Another thing, I like how there are a bunch of obscure things you can do which I never realised until now, like pressing triangle when an enemy knocks you over to do a flip and get up instantly, or holding down R1 after the second part of the ppk combo to knee someone in the face.

Damn I now regret selling the copy I got from the MGS4 LE a few years ago. I still have everything from the LE but the game. >__<

Looks like I'm headed to Gamestop today...

All these things should be in the manual, so the people that actually read them (me) could be better at the game!

BTW, remember that MGS4 had a PROPER MANUAL. ~60 pages, in color, with comics, artworks and everything. A rare thing this gen.

Or not. This may be me, because I haven't bought that many games in the last two years
