There’s no arrogance like Sony arrogance.

It is only overpriced if people didn't buy it. Seems people thought it was a fair price hence the crazy sales it got over its lifetime.

So the relation of hardware cost and price isn't a facotr on overpricing a product? if it sells it's not overpriced? If I put a wii at 500$ on christmas 2006 it's not overpriced if I sell it?

I'm talking about a strictly objective relation hardware-price, specially since the wii was sold, at least in a huge percentage, to people who dont even know what hardware means, neither what technology they are buying.

I was in a software store at christmas 2007, and boy they jumped like crazy to get one... for their kid.

Steam will be the only face of PC gaming if some here have there wish, and then the PR-bombs will drop...

:p

Hope there ready for their blackmails/entrapment's of agreeing to the TOS or not having access to their account and games

First of all, every company says dumb things at some point when they taste greatness. Nintendo, Microsoft, and countless others are guilty of this.

Secondly, over half those quotes are coming out of respect of the overwhelming success of the PS2. You cannot fault a company for trying to keep momentum alive whilst trying to create hype for a product through PR/top brass. Who knows how many of the quotes were taken out of context.

Oh we were all there for many of those quotes. Even in context they are still terrible. Also any of Sony's NPD PRs from earlier in the generation is worth a run through. Oh and Apple is the most valuable company in the world, and I haven't seen anything out of them approaching some of the stuff from Sony circa 2006.

When your company is about to release a new console, and the current one (the PS2) is still blowing the competition out of the water after six years, you will tend to be a little arrogant.

First you claim there was no stealth edit, now you try to walk back the entire post after admitting that there was a stealth edit.
I don't consider adding a line that has absolutely no bearing on the context of the post to be a 'stealth edit', are you even a serious poster?

You said that I demanded someone be banned. I didn't.

Oh the horror, I like a company!, it's products, and services...

Quick GAF go through my post history and have a laugh

You like them so much you can't even muster enough normalcy to laugh at the past?

We call that, "insecurity". No need for it. If you can't laugh at past hyperbole from masterful PR spindoctors, you're doing life wrong. It's like not being able to laugh at athletes that liked to talk smack even though they can't always back it up....just because you like them.

They're not your wife or girlfriend. It's okay to laugh.

Haha.

I think the best part about the thread has been the people who reach so hard to try and peg people as 'butthurt' or 'salty'.

you read through this thread and think that's a "hard reach"?

really?

does anyone have the thread where some guy tried to prove that god must exist because of a gran turismo sunset or some shit? i've been looking forever for that thread.

You Mean this :

Hello. Between march 2007 and march 2008 I was involved in testing a physics engine with a Japanese company called Polyphony Digital who make a driving simulator called Gran Turismo. During this process a brilliant Japanese cryptographer/physicist who was hired by Polyphony Digital developed a new type of code, which was used to control how the grip of the car would behave. This new code was then developed even further after I did a lot of testing with it.

This code worked like a chain so it could also run at a speed. I was able to make the speed of this chain run very quickly, quite easily. After about 1 week I managed to bring this code all the way to the speed of light. In order to do this I had to think and move at the speed of light over a short time, about 3 or 4 seconds each effort. When I did, the last decision I made with my left hand broke through the fabric of space -time. At this moment my arm became light. By the time I looked away from my arm all the matter around me had become light and then space. For about 10 seconds I could see nothing but perfect white light and it was conscious, powerful and infinite. Then the light seemed to draw my attention to my left where there was somebody sitting down. At the time I didn’t recognise this person as I was very shocked and the whole thing caught me by surprise.

With binary code travelling the speed of light it was now possible to run scientific equations in 3 dimensions. This allowed for the equation/test that found the points of inertia in the car. I found all these points and they made up the shape of a cross in the base of the chassis. For the cross to function it had to be placed somewhere. Another physicist who was hired later on by Polyphony Digital figured out that it went above the car. I then suggested that there might be a halo around the car and there was. Another physicist found that the weight of the car is shaped like a pair of balls.

So this was confirmation that the light I saw was God and the person sitting to his right was Jesus. This system of inertia symbolises what it took for him to go through with his own crucifixion. You have to see it.

I'm pretty sure that he's implying that you're a Sony fanboy based on your post history. He's lumping you in with other posters known for that behavior, so by association I would assume he's making the same implication.

Hope This Helps

It's easy to lump people together for strawman arguments, haha. I never defended Sony for their mistakes. 600 launch, stupid PR, YLOD, BRD failure, online passes, you name it.

Also, I don't go to Microsoft and Nintendo threads to shit on their fans like some people are doing here.

I don't post often, or at all really. And this will most likely get buried beneath all the other more worthwhile posts.
I just wanted to state my opinion that this could very well be an interesting conversation topic if people actually talked about it. The way arrogance in the higher ups of a gaming company can translate down, lead to poor sales, rushed products, and inconsistent marketing. And how the shape of the future of the company can be seen as brighter since, as has been started numerous times, many of these people no longer work for the company. I don't know much about all of the individual people that work or have worked for Sony, but can any correlations be drawn from when arrogance came, when it left, and how the sales/marketing of the companies products affected the consumers?

I do too! But when they say embarrassingly stupid stuff, I'm gonna laugh.

I do too!

I laughed at them when they were fresh, these comment are beaten dead horses

Say hypothetically I went back and created a Mama Robo style like thread saying There's no stupidity like MS stupidity

Then show the RROD disaster, the FIFA hacks, and the other countless things, which have been discussed to ad nauseum in this very discussion board, don't you think it would be a little disingenuous

This thread creates no discussion, most would go HAHA.. good times, but most are here for the trolling and doing the Salty, U Mad, Butthurt routine, because to them nothing else to discuss, because it already has been discussed to no end

Haha, what the fuck is this?

Bitter much?

How long have you been holding this in? The MGS4 thread has nothing to do with this. The Metal Gear threads are popular because they have a lot of fans from all console backgrounds. And the MGS4 thread deserves the amount of posts it gets because it is an awesome fucking game.
You're being weird

lol what

if thats's true, Nintendo should do the same with the U and they're not doing it. Sometimes Iwata is almost too humble, even. Face it, a completely different breed of PRs

Fuck fans in general, yo. Especially fans of goddamn multinational corporate conglomerates, rather than just individuals or tight-knit groups of individuals.

i remember on the gamespot forums there was this massive thread of all the sony quotes called "sony's failure timeline" or something like that. i think dreams-visions posted in there and had like 50 wrestling .gifs in his sig.
this thread reminds me of that thread.

Hey, just like this:

"A bit pricey." (Michael Ephraim, Managing Director of SCEA, on the launch price of the Wii)

Original context:
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/10/sony-australia-wii-a-bit-pricey/

which leads to the interview where he says the following:

Nintendo is a great company as far as games development goes, they have been around for
a long time, they know how to deliver an entertaining product. My only question for this Christmas on Wii is the price point. Even though it's affordable, at $400 plus whatever you need to buy accessories-wise, I'm guessing you need to spend about $500 to take home a Wii and enjoy it. I can't judge the product because I haven't played it but I've heard good things about it. For this Christmas, I think that price point is still not family entertainment because $500 is a lot to fork out, but we welcome the Nintendo heritage of gaming where they can appeal to a broader audience because long-term that is critical for the industry. What we've done on PlayStation 2 with social gaming has broadened the audience and we're glad that they are attempting to do similar things to open up the market to families and never-before gamers. Time will tell. For this Christmas I think the price for what it specifically does as a video games machine is a bit pricey, but I think that their strategy long term we have great respect for.

SUCH AN ARROGANT DUDE.

Between this and the Kamiya thread about All-Stars, I feel like the video game community is finally regressing. Next year should be very interesting.

I know exactly which one your talking about.

It was a pretty toxic thread. Funny to see reactions. But toxic

That would require insider interviews or info or other data. Obviously you'll likely only get speculation in a thread like this. However, I don't believe their PR attitude has had an adverse affect on the actual products and Sony seems to do very little with marketing, so at least it's not hugely detrimental even when it is snide. Consumers at best know about Sony's screw up with PSN, and that's about it. Otherwise, they're known as a pricey electronics company.

I don't think these comments affected the customer or the sales in any meaningful way. People on message boards represent a fraction of the potential customers and even on GAF most people just don't care what higher ups have to say.

I think the comments are important to certain people, mostly shareholders. When you're in last place, there's no way but to be overly confident about the future. When the competition has their product released and yours is almost a year away then you just have to make up stuff in order to keep everyone happy. Looking back, most of these things seem ridiculous. The question is: What were they supposed to say? "Yeah, the Xbox is about as good as our system. Multiplats will usually be better on Microsoft's console but exclusives look slightly better than anything on the Xbox". You need something better than that to keep everyone happy. :)
Why actually talk about it though when people can just post the joker saying here we go.
By far the funniest post in this Thread. :D

Maybe it didn't. But the movements such as wii60 that appeared because of some of them changed some people purchasing decisions.

It's still a horribly dumb quotes considering he's tries to paint the Wii as a 500 dollar system. He shouldn't have even been talking price with how expensive the PS3 was.
