Hooray.

Will probably pick it up on WiiU eventually if it has bonus content and such. Would buy it now on PS3 but I'm tight on cash atm :'<

People shouldn't be so hard on EA in this specific instance. They probably don't have the bandwidth inhouse for another SKU.

EA had it's chance to get me to support their Wii U games going forward. They blew it big time with the choices they've made recently regarding the Wii U. So they can go to hell. I'll wait and see if other racing games come out in the future from other companies or go without.

Those interested in this...watch how this doesn't contain any extras by the time it comes out. Also watch and see them push it for $60 when the other versions have dropped to $30.

What was the story behind this?

I reckon EA is pissed off with Nintendo for not making Origin the de facto online service for the Wii U. I remember reading a story posted on GAF about someone from EA even travelling to Japan, possibly to sweeten the deal. But Nintendo probably thought otherwise...

Allegedly, EA pushed Nintendo hard to use Origin as the online network for the Wii U, and Nintendo decided to do their own thing.

Something about EA trying to get Origin on Wii U, Nintendo called the whole thing off and EA is pissed.

*Paraphrased, summarized to hell and probably not accurate.*

The fact that Origin was in the running terrifies me.

You might be remembering Peter Moore talking about visiting Nintendo in Japan, which was in the context of how Nintendo was working a lot earlier/closer with third-parties than in the past.

Though obviously something must have happened considering the much stronger support Activision and Ubisoft are giving the system.

Peter Moore himself went out to Nintendo HQ. Was shortly after that the bad blood stuff came out

This game is ready.

The late release is in hopes that people will double-dip for some reason.

No, it doesn't make sense to me, either.
Lol, well that's a great business plan, E.A. It's not like you would have the only realistic racer at the launch, and thus a good opportunity to sell a few units and start building up a consumer base on the Wii U. Delaying it, and then pulling future Wii U supports when the game bombs because everybody's already played it is a much better plan.

I'm not surprised that some people have '3rd parties hate Nintendo' conspiracy theories when things like this happen.

I look forward to the sports game shitstorm next year:

FIFA 14: 360, PS3, Wii U, PS4, 720: All on different dates! Woo!

They essentially wanted Origin to be the online service/infrastructure for the entire system IIRC.

The fact that Origin was in the running terrifies me.

Part of the story/rumor is that when Nintendo supposedly turned down EA and they got pissed other companies were really happy with Nintendo as a result. If we follow that to the next step it could have improved their relationship with Nintendo for the better. At the moment Nintendo's only seemingly "bad" relationship seems to be with EA. Also like said the idea was that Origin would be the online system, not apart of it.

As I see it, there are two possibilities here. Either this is true:

The late release is in hopes that people will double-dip for some reason.

No, it doesn't make sense to me, either.

In which case EA is run by people who shouldn't be allowed run a bake sale, let alone a $3.8 billion company. Or, this is true:

Oh, wait...

That's him. Cheers, lads. I still reckon EA thought they'd use Nintendo as a stepping stone for their online shenanigans. "Look, everyone! Even Nintento is using Origin for everything on their system. Soooo awesome!" But I bet Activision & Ubisoft probably told Nintendo not to bother or miss out on Call of Duty and Rayman. :p

To be fair, that's a major one to have. Couldn't Nintendo have completely avoided this by going down the Sony/Microsoft path from the start?
