Capcom: DmC looks/feels like 60FPS. Also, 60fps is tiring for your eyes, thus 30fps.

Maybe it's just because I woke up five minutes ago and this is the first thing I've seen this morning

But right now this seems like it may be the most bananas thing I've heard from a publisher all year, maybe among the most bananas of the generation
Yep, that Capcom quote is one for the ages. :)

I guess all console fighting games need to play at 30 fps now since it's the industry standard.

It's almost like Capcom has been reading all the DmC threads on here about the game not being 60fps and are trying to come up with damage control... So they picked a figure head and made him say some crazy crap to cover their six.

Who are they aiming this statement to?
A)Normal consumers don't understand this jargon.
B)Those who do understand and are getting this on console will see this as unacceptable.
C)Those who do understand and don't play action/fighting games at a skill level that requires a quick response time wouldn't care either way...
D)They just gave PC gamers a good laugh.

So all this comment did is piss off group B.

60FPS affects gameplay so much for something like this. I know this isn't a tournament fighter, but for a combo specific game like this to run at 30fps makes me sick. Hell, any game at 30fps makes me sick.

Dear Capcom,

I applaud you in looking out for my health. I play to many fighting games at 60 frames, I hope that you think about us gamers who play fighting games in the future. We are people too!

Can we officially call this DMC: The Lost Frames?

I don't want my brain to fill in a damn thing. This isn't a fucking horror film with twitching people standing at weird angles that my mind attempts to comprehend. It's a damn action game. It won't feel like 60fps, it will feel like 30fps.

Nice gif lol, this game is coming to PC right? I saw it under some release platforms list somewhere.

I'm actually pretty hyped for it on PC, and at a discount, I really loved Enslaved.

PC version pretty much confirmed to be shitty port though.. :(

Ok seriously, can you even successfully and legitimately defend 30 FPS over 60 FPS? Is such a thing even possible?

Some have said that most people can't tell the difference and the emphasis on 60 fps and control fluidity is more niche. Plus the 30 fps allows greater variation in design and environment than what a game like DMC typically offers

Not that I agree but there are people fully satisfied with this game's direction with fps

Bullshit, CoD sells over 10 million copies every year.

I assure you that's not because of it's framerate

Some of the most highly regarded games on gaf run at 30 frames a second. Halo 4 the biggest release of the season will run at 30 FPS

Even God Hand, an action game on the PS2 where 60 FPS was common, if not standard in the genre ran at 30 frames a second.

No one complains about that. Very popular game on gaf.

I prefer visual responsiveness with my games as well, but it's annoying as hell how "60FPS" has become a buzzword on here seemingly overnight

That's my opinion too. Maybe a lot of people can't see the difference in a test, or don't understand the difference in a tech conversation, but their brains want to pay for that fluid feel every year.

60FPS dominated most of last gen. Especially on PS2.

I really don't see how this is a shock today.

And I assure you it has a lot to do with it.

Yep. Which is no surprise that DICE is rumored to be pushing 60fps for next gen BF4.

I thought the biggest release of the season was Black Ops 2?

edit: please mods remove the quotation marks from the title

Why don't they just admit it's a completely different project? It's pretty damn clear that the game has been tremendously slowed down. DmC is more like a sequel to Heavenly Sword rather then a new DMC, why the fuck can't Capcom just say it? Even DMC fans who haven't played it can already tell that it's a completely different game, just spit it out!

Haven't read the entire thread but I would just like to drop the fact that I really loved Dragon's Dogma. It's probably my game of the generation. But the entire time I played it, I salivated at the thought of it running at a rock solid 60fps.

Disappointed in Itsuno's statement.

Oh please, it's not like our eyes are used to seeing things that are constantly in motion, now are they? 30 FPS is obviously easier on the eyes than 60 FPS.

So either my sarcasm meter is severely broken or Itsuno's BS is working.

The RE avatar isn't helping either.

I'm more curious as to how, exactly, Capcom expects to make a 30FPS game "feel like 60FPS". I mean, I'll admit that my eyes can't usually tell, say, a 50FPS game from a 60FPS one, but they sure as hell can tell a 30FPS one from a 60FPS one.

Really, though, I'd probably mind less if they weren't implying that 60FPS is bad (it isn't) or that they can somehow simulate it at half the hertz (you can't). 30FPS isn't exactly a game-killer or anything, a lot of my favorite games run at that speed. Trying to tout it as the superior option, though, is foolishness.

I just had an 4 hour Skyrim playing session at 1200p @60FPS and now my eyes are bleeding... rainbows!

Oh Capcom, what have you become...

Not that I'm on Capcom's side in this matter, but I highly doubt most people who play videogames casually even know what framerate is.

The real problem with this statement is that a lot of people had already moved on with the fact that DmC was 30FPS on consoles. Those people who truly care about 60FPS will probably be waiting for the 60FPS PC version.

Yes... responsive games can be made on 30FPS. I can name quite a few games that run at 30FPS but are still skillful, responsive games (Darksiders 2 is an equivalent example, otherwise many people have already mentioned NFS:MW and Halo). That being said, the most responsive and fluid 30FPS games still do not match the most responsive/fluid 60FPS games. And the DMC games are near the pinnacle of responsiveness and fluidity in an action game so any loss of latency in controls is a downgrade from the standard of the series.

You can't downplay a series staple by saying it's harmful for the eyes or that the substitute is just as good. Capcom should just stick with their original statement that they sacrificed 60FPS for the dynamic environments on consoles, that is at least a statement that makes sense and they can sort of back it up.

If 60FPS is so hurtful for the eyes.... it wouldn't be touted as a feature of the PC version.

This is very true. Only a few of my buddies who are tech savvy know the difference and benefits. Everyone else just says, "So, it looks smoother."

That doesn't mean that it doesn't make a difference. Your friends may not know the specifics behind what they're experiencing, but they recognize that the experience is "smoother" or "different".

Most people who play CoD don't know what framerate is. That doesn't mean that they don't feel a huge difference when playing CoD at 60fps.
