Calm Killer

In all media, only true fans who consume every book, film, game, or pog collection deserve to know what's going on.
My in-law got me a $50 LEGO gift card!!! Wife got me tie fighter and xwing. Still have my parent house left so I will get two more sets there. Best Christmas in a long time.

Merry Christmas, LegoGAF!

My wife FINALLY got me the mini-modulars set that I've wanted forever. She picked up the Cuusoo Hayabusa while she was at it too.

I got myself the TMNT Baxter Stockman and Turtle Van sets when I was out Christmas shopping a few days ago too. :D

Now all I need is the Arkham Asylum set and I'll be good for a while.

Completely unexpectedly I opened up the Fallingwater kit this morning from my parents. I hadn't even asked for it this year, although for my birthday back in the spring I asked for any of the architecture kits and they had gotten me the Guggenheim. Man, I have no idea where I'm going to put this thing, but its going to be completely awesome when I build it.

Good thing I ordered the SSD on Saturday. It is now over $400 on Amazon.
And I see that Shuttle Expedition is now sold out on LEGO.com. That one was always a "maybe if I have extra money, but in no rush" sets. But the VW Van is going away soon isnt it? Maybe I should put the credit from the Y-Wing towards that instead of a new 2013 set. The VW is another "maybe someday, but not really itching for it" sets, but it is so well loved here.

If I were in your shoes, I'd definitely get the VW Van. 2013 stuff will be around for at least another 11 months.

I still have new millenium falcon, R2D2, and the 3 blade tie unbuilt in my apartment. Been depressed over my gf leaving me (2 and 1/2 years). Think it's time to build one. :)

The haul! My wife got the funhouse...Friends sets for the kid...everything else for me.

Merry Christmas Legogaf!

Edit: minifigs were the merking and the pirate captain...I could definitely see myself getting into these things...

Today I learned to never underestimate a set. I was bummed a little when I got the Avengers Hulk Helicarrier Breakout instead of the Quinjet set through a missunderstanding, but once I built it I realized the set is pretty great. A lot of fun little details that are pretty cool. Definitely no longer bummed, I'll just pick up the Quinjet later on.

Merry Christmas Legogaf, definitely jealous of a lot of your guys' hauls.

Merry Christmas, LEGOgaf!

Wife worked overnight and again tonight, so waiting on opening presents until later today, but the haul that I know so far: LEGO Duplo train, first zoo, storage bin, baseplate and farm book set for our 18 month old son, TIE fighter, Attack on Weathertop, Republic Striker-Class Fighter, some Series 8 minifigs and polybag TIE fighter for me, and Black Pearl for my wife.

Gonna be a great day!

I gave you a heads up on that recently ;).

As a set, in my personal opinion, the Volkswagen van is much better than the shuttle expedition. You will feel bad if you miss out on this one.

Oh, and of course a Merry Christmas to LEGOgaf.

Knew Shuttle Expedition was on the way out soon. Just didnt know it would go that quickly.
TRU still has it on their website.

Speaking of which, TRU has a B1G1 50% off on many City, Star Wars, and Hero Factory sets. However, this time they got smart with their wording and say "Excludes hard to find sets." Which is basically the bigger Star Wars sets and modulars. At least they were up front about it this time instead of being deceptive. It is like a Christmas miracle!

Any idea if the Unimog is retiring soon?

Didn't the Camper Van release end of 2011. I had thought most sets have a 2 year life span?

I also didn't see the Shuttle Expedition in the retiring soon page so I thought it would be around for a bit?

Yeah, it has been sold out on the European site for two weeks now. But you don't need it anyway, you need the VW van, you know it to be true. I don't think it's retiring though, but I'm not good at these predictions.

Right now I'm afraid of what's going to happen with the emporium. Checking http://www.brickset.com/buy/amazon/ it's not readily available on European Amazonsites, and I have also been seeing it less and less on Dutch LEGO websites. Right now I've got an order on the French amazon website (€123). I really hope it's because of Christmas and they'll get more stock.

Grand Emporium is the shocker for me, and I am sure others. If it disappears before Fire Brigade then the universe wont make sense. Down will be up, left will be right.

Of course, we have found some sets already that only had a few months life span. The Zombies was one of those. Shame too, because it was probably the best of the smaller Monster Fighter sets.

It's still on Lego.nl, so it's really confusing. It's also why I've still got hope that the Grand Emporium is just the perfect Christmas present and they'll be back in stock next year.
Right now my problem is that I don't want to pay 150 when it's possible to get one for 125. Because of that I'm checking daily and have been seeing it slowly disappear from websites. Unlinke the Fire Brigade, which is available on all the websites.

LEGO's policy on retiring sets is so confusing.

Also, as we approach the end of the year, I think it would be neat if we all posted our favorite sets of the year.

If we do, I think we should restrict it to only sets released in 2012, not just sets bought in 2012. Of course, since Galaxy Squad released early, those count. :) But earlier sets like the UCS SSD or Death Star would not.

Yeah, my wife wasn't able to find the Emporium either. It's not totally a "must have" for me, but it'd be nice to see them back on shelves soon.

Edit: looks like it's back in stock at s@h. Much ado about nothing on this one, I suspect.

Merry Christmas LEGOGaf!

My son really was excited when he opened that huge The Mine set, looks like it'll be a fun build and I'm glad I got the deal on that I did.

Hope everyone has a good Christmas.

For me, the one set to outshine them all is the Sopwith Camel:
These years Star Wars ships were great, but the Camel is on a whole other level.

I do hope so.

My favorite set of 2012 is the Swarm Interceptor. Easily. I don't even need to build the new stuff to say that unequivocally. I bought four of them as gifts. Excellent swoosh factor with a rotating cockpit, transforms into an escape pod with a turret, and you get one of the cool new alien minifigs. All for an absurdly reasonable price; I have never felt like I got anywhere near this much bang for my buck with any other set. It's that good.

Might seem like a weird choice...small and not a licensed line...but if you have it, you know what I'm talking about. ;) I'm thinking about getting a second one.

I've been thinking about this for a bit, and planned on putting my Top 5 Sets of the Year in a few days when I am back from travelling. However, I'm going to be using Brickset as my guide as the year of the product according to LEGO (and not the soft release date), so for me Galaxy Squad will be in contention for my 2013 list, but not 2012.

EDIT: I got a vacuum for Christmas, as requested. I'll take care of the LEGO purchases. ;)

That might be a good idea actually. Keeps it a bit simpler.

So i just wanted to check out this cool little interceptor when i figure, WTF the Galaxy sets seem to be US EXCLUSIVE??? Does this happen a lot? :(

It's possible they just won't be out until 2013 there. That's when they were supposed to hit.

I'd be shocked if they released a line with so many rare/obscure parts exclusively in the US.

So I got some Xmas cash and I think I'm going to pick up another set or 2 but I need some help

I have 2 options

1) 2 modulars (Fire Brigade and Grand Emporium)
2) SSD is still $309 on Walmart. I would be paying a bit out of my own pocket but... It's the SSD.

I've been interested in jumping into the modulars but so far I've bought nothing but Star Wars ships and Marvel sets.

Help me Lego GAF, You're my only hope.

Modulars will get you more for the price. It will also allow you to branch out into new, addicting sets.

Get the modulars! Those two will go out of print before the ssd.

Well I went with a bit of both... I just ordered the SSD and I'm going to use some Amazon credit for the Fire Brigade.

I couldn't resist the SSD any longer but I still wanted a Modular... Plus it'll be easier to talk my fiancé into buying another modular at $150 before the SSD at $300+.

Posting for LegoGAF. I got the Haunted House, my last and most elusive of the Monster Fighter sets. It was a great surprise. I can't wait to build it!

The Mega Blocks WoW griffon should be quick and easy too. I've been curious about these since they were first announced.

No Lego for me under the tree. But my daughter is starting out right. She got Duplo Snow White's cottage and Cinderella's Castle from Santa.

No lego for me. Though I did get lego Lord of the rings on xbox.

My kids both got one of those big lego storage boxes shaped like 2x2 bricks.

My son got a big collapsible lego storage bag the folds out to a road playmat.

My son also got a big duplo police station and my daughter got the big pink tub of lego. Those 2 are still back at home though as we didn't want them to lose the pieces while we're on holiday.

I got a large enough gift card to pick up the Death Star but gawd it's hard to take the leap on this thing.

How is Town Hall? Haven't seen that many people talk about that one, but it's a good price on Amazon at the moment. That would just leave Grand Emporium to finish my mod block...

Town Hall is great once completed, but it is the least of the current in print modulars. But dat roof. The roof is masterful. The rest of it is not bad.

But the Death Star. GET THE DEATH STAR! You have the funds to get it just through gifts, so it really is nothing out of pocket. GET THE DEATH STAR! Great set, or greatest set?

Obligatory Time Lapse video to convince you.

It really is a set that relies on Star Wars nostalgia, but my god is it glorious because of that. And it comes with 24 mini figs. Many of the versions are exclusive to the set.

Also, you have at least another year minimum to get Town Hall. The thermal exhaust port on the Death Star could be exposed at any moment.
