One SKU? Thank you.

OT but who is this dude?

Novak Djokovic world number 1 in tennis. That's from yesterday when he won his 6th Grand Slam. There is an even better super saiyan gif with him from last years final. If someone can find it, it would be nice...

EDIT: here it is

ON topic :what is new. It seem the same as previous rumors. And "102.4 GFlops for system" , didn't Cell have more gflops?

I'd say so. PS3 didn't sell until it got down around $300. But that's saying that it's even $400 which I doubt.

360 started at $399 last gen, and it worked out fine in the end. I think they are both targeting that price point as a start, the specs on both of these machines are conservative enough to get there.

Where are you getting this price from?

I'm assuming the camera and move controller are optional.

The 'hardware balanced for 14' CUs thing sounds vague, but I do not think it is a reference to disabled CUs for yields.

It's probably something to do with a hardware level optimisation of task balancing for graphics vs gpgpu...maybe? Which isn't to say you couldn't massage your resources in one or other direction, but they might have some low level optimal balance in there.

It means if they make a chip with 18 CUs you can get chips with bad CUs and you would have to throw them away if 18 is the target. If you target 14 but make 18 you can have 4 bad units and the chip is still viable. If all 18 are good then 4 will be deactivated or just not utilized.
I'm not saying this is what they mean with that statement, but it's my guess.

I know that's what disabling cores for yield improvement is :p What I'm saying is, I don't think that's what the spec is referring to. I think the 'balanced for 14' means something else. Probably a little detail or elaboration missing from what they copy-and-pasted...

LOL, I remember when everyone here was convinced the Vita would cost $400 when the specs were unveiled.

This will be a $350 launch. Bank on it.

I don't think Sony will be stupid with the price but $350 with all that included in the box? I can't believe it.

I hope that the moves controllers are for other SKU....

Thank you for the verification.

Still, the texture unit count (deficit) is rustling numerous jimmies, including mine.

Yeah, still curious about the texture unit count too. I think we are missing something here that hasn't leaked to account for the low number.

I was hoping they would include some extra hardware in there to boost physics without taking away from GPU resurces, but hey, cost contraints are what they invariaby are.
That would explain the performance parity with Durango.

That is total system ram though.

In these consoles they are using one set of RAM to account for graphics memory and general system memory.

To compare to a PC, you probably have 8 GB of DDR3 system RAM, some of which is used by the OS. And 2 GB of GDDR5 on your GPU for graphics memory.

Latency on VRAM is a considerable factor in a good GPU, and Durango seems to have a fairly slow latency, Orbis seems to be faster.

Thanks for the explanation. Really appreciate it.

I didn't realize that when it said 3.5 gb dedicated to games, it meant only 500mb dedicated to the OS.

Are people clinging to the $400 price tag, just so they can post negativly when this thing launches at a higher price?

I don't know how it can be more than that. There is really nothing outlandish in the specs to push the price that high. There is no first generation Blu Ray players or anything like that this time. The exciting thing about these specs is they are extremely streamlined.

Wasn't all this info already given by this same website? No surprises that I can see.

Interesting that the cores are split into two four core modules though, I thought it was the AMD two-core module setup before this.

Only thing surprising here is that it's only a 6x Blu ray drive and no BDXL support out of the box. All the rest is exactly what we've been hearing other places.

500Gb harddrive is nice. Hopefully it's more than 5400RPM.

The GDDR5 RAM is probably the most exciting part of PS4 hardware for now. Unless I'm mistaken it's 10 times faster than the fastest DDR3 module available. How will devs take advantage of that difference? I hope the speed over capacity decision doesn't bite them in the ass in case third party devs start targeting Durango instead. :p

Not so sure that's a wise assumption.

Charging more than $399 is suicide. Microsoft is going to get there again, and Sony had better match them this time.

Now, if Sony can get two controllers and a camera in there and still get to $399, then that's fantastic.

just further confirmation of the completely awful CPU going in these systems.

Awful is relative. It's slower than an i7 or even i5, but that's because consoles don't have the same requirements as a desktop PC. There will be much more emphasis on the GPU this time around.

What the hell, so will this come with a camera and a move controller as well. Also what do they mean by evolved Dualshock
