Hah that's really good. Hope they go back to a few older characters and capture them better

Japan Time on miiverse is a huge incentive for miiverse. They need the main site for those who havn't a Wii U but still.

Can't wait to hear about the music.

Sakurai also had the same level of detail on Sonic for Brawl. Even though it was Sonic's modern model, he had most of his animations based off of the classic Sonic games.

Ganondorf being a Captain Falcon clone was always the oddest thing about Melee's roster. He must have been a rushed addition.

Hopefully Sakurai gives him the Zelda inspired moveset he deserves.

Ganondorf was originally going to have his sword from the spaceworld demo. Time constraints restricted him to a Falcon Clone though.

Yeah, I loved Sonic in Brawl.

Favorite Modern Sonic design.

I hope Sakurai looks back at those early designs when designing Ganondorf this time around.

But he kept him roughly the same in brawl. He is the biggest 'clone' failure :( Such a unique character made to have generic moves not found from his games.

Hopefully mega man being so incredibly faithful to the source material is a good sign for ganondorf.

That's not true. Sakurai said on the Melee said that the only reason Ganondorf was included is because his body type is similar to Captain Falcon's. He never said anything about being a unique character with a sword.

I can't check the site right now because I'm at work, but I don't think Ganondorf was originally going to be in Melee at all. IIRC, in Melee's Japanese site, Sakurai calls him a lucky character and explicitly says that the only reason he made it was due to his build matching Captain Falcon's.

Sakurai counts Sheik, Zero Suit Samus, and the Pokémon Trainer's Pokémon as separate characters, so when people say things like "Brawl has 35 characters" or "Brawl has four Pokémon reps," that isn't entirely accurate.

They are different characters development-wise, but the reps number (and by extension, the roster's size) is determined by the number of slots. Furthermore, they aren't really separate characters. When you main the Pokémon Trainer you absolutely need to learn how to use all three of his Pokémon, or it's impossible to actually play. Likewise, using Zelda but not taking advantage of Sheik makes you have a character with one less move (let alone that being the Down Special). Samus could probably be utilized as a standalone character in her two forms moreso than the other two (exploiting other characters' attention on the Smash Ball to take them out, or simply playing with the Smash Ball off), but ZSS is still meant to be part of the same character.

That's how Smash is. It may sound asymmetrical but "character" in Smash doesn't necessarily mean one gameplay style. At most, it means one character per se (Red in PT's case, Samus in Varia/Zero Suit case, Zelda in two different aliases), and even that isn't absolute (see Ice Climbers).

I seem to remember Sakurai speaking about how Ganon was originally going to have an original move set. Isn't he the only character with additions (his sword) in a win animation?

I'm hoping Black Shadow takes Ganondorfs original place and Ganon Steps into his own unique Light (dark?) next game.

With the wind waker hd remake, I am hoping to get a cell shaded ganondorf with two swords instead of the tp version

It makes me more wonder what's up with Toon Link.

How the "Link but smaller!" character has survived now two games is beyond me.

He's another one that could have some pretty wild new moves using Wind Waker specific abilities (Deku Leaf for example)

Oh, I agree with that, but whenever Sakurai writes about Brawl he describes the roster as having 39 characters. Even with their gimmick status, the amount of time and effort that goes into someone like Sheik is the same as any other character on the roster, so it bothers me when people relegate them to something as inconsequential as a stance change.

If Sonic is back, I do hope he gets one of his spin dashes changed to something else. Maybe a wisp power since Sega seems to love those fucking things.

I don't mind Ganon being a clone of Cap that much. I can't really explain why, but it doesn't bother me.

Ooops, the thread on community section got locked.

So I'll reply IntelliHeath's quote here:

:lol seriously?

I thought PSASBR was great game but what made me dropped the game that how poorly they handled the patches.

Villager is a great addition to Smash since many people were clamoring for Animal Crossing representative in Brawl. Animal Crossing is one of most popular nintendo franchise at the moment, so his inclusion is well deserved.

Wii Fit Trainer is a wonderful character that would gladly to remind us to remember the quote, "EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED." She is a perfect in Smash, and I would like to considered her as one of best WTF character in the history.

Point of Ice Climbers is that they provided a unique aspect of team character and they belong to Retro section, so it's not necessary to be popular characters to get in the game. They become popular with the smash fans. It is like saying same thing about Sir Dan being in PSASBR.

Yeah patches had serious flaws in PSASBR. What would you say if Metaknight would get buffed?

I'll clarify my point. On idea Villager and WFT are stupid choices. In actual use they look great. They look fun and silly. I think WFT annoys people because its from Wii Fit, not so game oriented game at all. And Villager looks just as ridicioulus with its smiling face. Althought I'm wondering... Before New Leaf, was Animal Crossing that big franchise?

Finally, I really meant that I'm annoyed because people say:" Nintendo characters are more famous and well known." Well duh on Mario, Link & Kirby etc, but not all of them are that famous.

I'd almost even argue that Smash is overrating Metroid, Star Fox & F-Zero. But nope. That argument I couldnt EVER win. So lets just say they are unfortunately just not getting games.

Haha, great GIF. HARD G, NOT SOFT G FOOLS

Japanese Miiverse is getting in on the psycho Villager as well

Haha.

Simply the perfect recreation of Mega Man. I noticed that he has this (from Mega Man 3):

...recreated as his "fell down" animation.

Thank you Sakurai.

So is there NO way to make a MiiVerse account if you don't own a Wii U? I really want one :(

There's this:
I guess by Sakurai's twitter since he links to the posts.

Here's a generic NNID I made that you can login to Miiverse with if you want.

I am so excited for the soundtrack, just the Dr Wily's Castle remix was awesome to me.

Let's just hope this time the soundtrack isn't lacking in *new* music all around. I hated how Brawl recycled a lot of unremixed tracks...

Don't get me wrong, the remixed ones were pretty good, but I've always been more fond of how Melee did it where the soundtracks were all either remixed or orchestrated. I'm really curious how they'll handle it this time, though, especially if they're not outsourcing the music like last time.

I think Sakurai made Ganon a clone because he was running out of time with Melee and it was all that they could do.

Now he's stuck because he probably thinks people will hate a Ganon that doesn't control like how he used to and there's also a significant number of people that will hate Ganon if he doesn't change.
Indeed, and every fighting game developer should learn to get beyond this dilemma. Marvel had this problem with classic characters like Iron Man and Hulk. While Niitsuma wanted to retain their authenticity from previous titles, they both just ended up underpowered compared to characters with fresh designs. As a Ganondorf player, I'm cool with Sakurai doing whatever he wants to the character. If he turns out poorly, I'll find another character. I really do trust Sakurai, though, and I think he would just be more fun to play as. Give him some dark magic while retaining the grapples, and you would have an interesting character.

Mega Man looks way too perfect. I just... wow. I've wanted him so bad since it was announced that we'd get 3rd party characters in Brawl and now it's happening before my eyes. It kind of sucks that everyone and their grandmothers are going to play as him, though :p Hope he's a bit underpowered to make this not the case. I'M SELFISH LIKE THIS.

I don't have a issue with ganondorf being a clone per se... Melee ganondorf was actually a capable fighter...and fun. Brawl ganon somehow became worse.

All this talk about FE reps makes me wonder:
What if they went the route of Marth, Chrome and someone from the jugdral(snes) series? IIRC, they were one of the more higher selling/popular one's in the franchise and had no form of reputation in any games.

No, he was simply late in addition. As Scrafty said, Sonic is the one who "replaced" Mewtwo if anything else due to the timing.

And the only "Mewtwo" moveset Lucario has is Aura Sphere, and even then that's like saying Samus is a Mewtwo clone.

The only character meant to be cut from Melee was Pichu. The list of unfinished characters from Brawl who have artifacts on the disc are:

Dixie Kong

Dr. Mario

Mewtwo

Roy

Plusle & Minun

Toon Zelda / Toon Sheik (Tetra?)
