DriveClub (Evolution Studios/PS4) announcement trailer. [PS3 WHEELS ARE SUPPORTED]

Is this game arcade, semi-arcade (Dirt 2/3) or near Gran Turismo levels?

It's not open world.

DriveClub has open environments with roads snaking through them. If you've played Evo's WRC series you'll know what to expect.

I spent 2 weeks playing nothing but it for at least 6 hours a day. So good.

Seeing the in game footage from E3 definitely took the hype out of me. Simply put, Forza looked much better, and it runs at double the framerate.

I hope this game has a fantastic turnaround in it's final few months, but I've seen enough E3 demos like this to know that's very unlikely. Any developer can slap a percentage on their game and say it's an early build, but games that are shipping in less than 5 months are closer to complete than most people realize.

i agree with you. as a launch title and a racing game, it shold look much more impressive.
but lets not forget: motorstorm 1 looked like shit at e3 2006, 3 months later at tgs, it looked amazing and then it looked even better at launch.

same with motorstorm 2: the first demo they released looked underwhelming. the 2.0 demo a few months later looked a lot better, same goes for the final version.

there is still hope. lets hope they show a more advanced version in 2 months at gamescom.

Evolution Studios release some direct feed footage man, the offcam videos from E3 show floor with low lights doesn't do the game justice, I wanna see how it looks like when I play it.

Am I the only one who thought DriveClub looked great at E3? The trailer in HD was beautiful.
In fact, believable. Those hoping Forza will look the way it did at E3 in December are going to be in for a shock.

The gameplay didn't look as good as the trailer . The trailer had near perfect image quality which isn't the case with the e3 build.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
If G27 is supported there should be a good chance that DFGT will work. I hope they can confirm that soon.

I hope that Logitech provides a driver for the PS4. They announced that they will drop out of console peripherals by the end of 2013. Would be a huge disappointment if they didn't care. My G27+Stand was expensive enough.

/edit: Just saw the screenshot of the confirmation on the last page. Good news, hope that they have an official general driver and not a reversed engineered custom driver.

Well, if the reports on power differences between XONE and PS4 are true, there is no excuse if it looks worse. I'm not sure if Forza 5 runs at 1080p, probably not (1080p compatible is not the same), but as an exclusive, DriveClub should easily manage to top Forza 5. I don't know what they can do to the engine in just a few weeks from now on...

Is there a video of Forza 5 ingame gameplay running on final Xone devkit ?

I think one of the most important thighs here form most previews is that the game is fun.

The rest can be polish to hell.

Agreed.

Honestly, this whole PS+ Edition stuff, while nice, has screwed up my plans. I was down for DC and Knack as my two launch titles.

Now that PS+ is required to play DC online, which means you get the partial version free, I don't know what to do. Hopefully we'll get confirmation on whether or not the PS+ version can be upgraded to the full version and how much that will cost so I can figure out what to buy.

DAT photomode.

Seriously, you would think after 7 years people would realise to stop trusting screenshots from car games being representative of gameplay.

I took those screenshots from gameplay. They are unedited gameplay shots. You can pause the game and move the camera around but there's no photomode in project cars so maybe you should do some research before making statements like that.

Also since Project Cars is a PC game it is very easy to find crappy looking videos taken at low settings, or on unfinished pre alpha tracks that look terrible since they are only 10-20% complete.

The question is, at what framerate did you take them.

That's a yes on the upgrade, don't know the pricing.

Sigh...so many conflicting information everywhere about the wheel support...

I wish Sony and or Logitech would just go on record to confirm or deny it.

I am still very much looking forward to this title.. hopefully we get some definite answers on the PS+ edition so I know whether to keep my pre-order or just download the + edition and upgrade it to full.

I just worry the game's nowhere near final and with the push for launch they'll release unfinished game that would probably be great given more time of development.

Still have hope, good racer is good.

What answers are you after? We know its the full game in features but with limited tracks and cars, and that there will be an upgrade pack.

I listened to the interview from Klepek to some Sony guy and he said he didn't know a reason why it wouldn't work via usb if it worked via usb on a ps3 but he doesn't have 100% confirmation

Right - will the PS+ version be available on day one? Will the upgrade be available day one? How much will it be? Hopefully we'll hear more before too long.

Alright. So let's hope Logitech provides those drivers.

Someone needs to start a twitter hash or something #DrivingForcePS4 and get logitech to notice.

I expect it will. Don't see why it wouldn't be.

G27 is supported, here's what Evo said when I asked:
No capture posted...

Driveclub PS4 head tracking w/ camera. Believe.
I wish. I really hope games take advantage of something like that.

Is the first one Motor Storm, and the second one Motor Storm Pacific Rift?

I loved MS:pR...best online racing experience Ive had, and the handling and physics were so good, this is why I will trust this title turns out splendidly, these guys can make a great looking and feeling racing title

which wheels were compatible with the game at E3? What were they using?

man I don't trust MadCatz, but my Driving Force GT better work.....come on Logitech don't let us down. :(

[tinfoilHat] If Microsoft payed money for some companies to not mention their PS4 version of games...or just 2 week exclusive DLCs, like current gen....man I wonder how much would it cost them to tell MadCatz and Logitech to slow down on their PS4 drivers for PS3 wheels till after a launch...say maybe for a month.

chances are MadCatz and Logitech wouldn't make much anyway on new sales for PS3 wheels during that Month. [/TinfoilHat]

If Microsoft really did pay madcatz to do that I would be pissed.

Wow this game looks incredible too my eyes (I'm even more stoked they might get it looking better). I have both the T500 RS & CSR Elite steering wheels so I'll be ready to put on my racing gloves.

More importantly to me though is framerate. I rather sacrifice the visuals a little to maintain 60fps. This is coming from an avid iRacing fan. Been a subscriber for years.

physics >>> steering wheel support >> 60 fps >> graphics

How about logitech driving force gt?

so my DFGT lives? yes!

I have both the T500 RS & CSR Elite ..

Just sent fanatec an e-mail about supporting the PS4,

Regarding wheel support on PS4.. I have no concrete info, but this is what I think about it from my previous knowledge.

In order to work with all the aforementioned wheels, PS4 has to have a compatible software / SDK installed and supported. It is not actually "Logitech" who should "provide the drivers", it is 100% matter of licensing issue between Sony and Immersion Corporation which owns the patents and rights for TouchSense haptic feedback SDK's, used by Logitech (and others) for their FFB wheels and currently supported by both Sony and Microsoft for their platforms.

As many probably do not remember, the dispute between Microsoft and Immersion Co. and Sony and Immersion Co. was very significant during the launch-age of the this-generation of consoles, where Microsoft solved its dispute on time for the X360 launch which allowed them to launch X360 with support for the vibration in their controllers (which falls under the TouchSense Tactile Feedback licensing). In the same time, it took almost a year after the PS3 launch for Sony to solve the licensing/patent dispute with Immersion Co. (that was the reason why original launch-time Sixaxis controller had no vibration/rumble) which lead to release of DualShock3 controller once the dispute was settled and to system update which allowed that force feedback in steering wheels work on PS3 (there was no force feedback effects for steering wheels during PS3 launch too).

Of course, we can all presume that force feedback will work on PS4, but it will again depend on contractual details between Sony and Immersion Co. regarding the licensing of TouchSense SDK.

Logitech is no longer producing any wheels (for years now) and they have nothing to do with that particular matter anymore, nor they can do anything really. During the PS3-launch time they had nothing to do with their wheels not being able to deliver force feedback on PS3 all until Sony resolved dispute with Immersion Co.

It has to be noted - as far as I am aware - how Fanatec is actually emulating TouchSense software/SDK on their wheels to make them working on PS3, resembling drivers for either G25 wheel (on GT2, CSR and CSRElite models) or G27 wheel (latest 037 firmware for CSW emulates G27 wheel, while initial 035 firmware emulated G25 wheel). That is the reason why there are "PC" and "PS3" modes on Fanatec wheels, where PC is their own SDK and PS3 is TouchSense emulation (but I do not have knowledge about particular details on that part).

As for Thrustmaster T500RS, that wheel has its own SDK which is different then TouchSense. That is the reason why T500RS drivers have been slow to implement in the games (Gran Turismo 5 was the first game that was supporting it, later other games followed - Codemasters games first IIRC - because it took some time for developers to implement new SDK in games for their FF support). PS3 probably got the T500RS SDK support in one of the system-updates prior to games actually begun to support it (in the same way PS3 was granted the FFB support through system-update once the dispute was settled).

So, that is the first step to make Logitech/Fanatec models work: the licensing for TouchSense SDK based on the platform (PS4 has to support it). The next step is that developers of games (Evolution in this case, or Polyohony, or Codemasters, or EA, or whoever...) includes that particular SDK in their game-code (and AFAIK developers also have to have a license to do so). Those two things are prerequisites and can't work without each other. Same goes for Thrustmaster support.

We have to wait and see, but I hope it will not be an issue.

No, both videos represent the first Motorstorm.

How's this looking, from a gameplay and features perspective? Let's say they polish the game up and it ends up looking great...will the gameplay be enough?

I could watch you talk about the technicalities and ins and outs of steering wheels endlessly. Just thought I'd let you know.

This is probably already known but the dev just tweeted Driveclub is going to have a full day/night cycle. No word on weather though.
SUCK IT, FORZA.

Sorry, but that just has to be said. Should not be not included in a driving game on console at this point.

I don´t know what to believe with this game. Looked great at the reveal, bad at E3, good again on screen(bull?)shots.
It´s open world but isn´t?

Should I be hyped?

This brought back memories!
I remember seeing people at the kiosks like "WTF" because they couldnt drive without blowing up after 10 seconds. Thing was, was that they were still using "X" to drive instead of using the triggers so they would just use the turbo until it filled up and the car would explode. They would just repeat this cycle until they got frustrated and left. It was hilarious, I almost stepped in a few times to say something but it was too funny. One person outsmarted everyone else and actually learned to manage the boost meter! They would hold "X" until it almost filled up and let go until it cooled down.

Man....the memories

Certain graphical elements have actually improved since the initial reveal in February. I remember the headlight assembly on the Hennessey Venom GT looking decisively low poly during a close-up pan back then (maybe they were having LOD issues), while it looks perfect in this shot.

One thing that slightly disappointed me though was the type of tracks, specifically the presence of (short) circuits. I should've known better but based on trailer footage I was hoping that this would be more in style of point to point racing through open environments like the original Need for Speed or NFS Porsche Unleashed. The setting calls for it, so hopefully point to point is included and it's the prevalent type of race, or alternatively circuit tracks being really long and varied (like Hot pursuit). Sadly the track shown in the E3 demo seemed boring.

What was shown at E3 looked unconvincing to me, though to be honest I've yet to see a good direct feed video, being played by someone who knows how to play racing games (I swear every E3, every racing game, endless footage of wall hugging).

Hoping for the best as I've thoroughly enjoyed their previous games.

So... What's up with wheels? Do we still literally not know what if any wheels will work for the PS4? Isn't this information that would be helpful considering this game is a launch title and surely they must have some idea by now?

On the off chance Evolution is still reading this thread, I wanted to provide some feedback.

I've been puzzling over why the E3 feedback on Forza 5 has been "looks great" and the feedback on Drive Club has been "not impressive".

I looked at over a dozen E3 videos and focused on video taken from the cockpit point of view (i.e., not a replay video) to compare the two.

My observations:
- The car models in Drive Club are at least as good as Forza 5 (graphics wise)
- The interior cockpit view in Drive Club is actually superior in the E3 builds, as Forza 5 is still running 30 fps driver/side mirrors with popup problems
- Both Drive Club and Forza 5 have impressive draw distances
- The lighting model in Drive Club is superior and more realistic, as Forza is still pre-baked lighting, but the Drive Club demo doesn't really show off the lighting model.
- Where Forza 5 completely blows Drive Club out of the water is in trackside eye-candy. Turn 10 wisely chose Prague as the demo track. The Prague track shows off tons of trackside eye-candy: fancy buildings, bridges/overpasses, lots of bystanders, tunnels, helicopters, signs, etc.
- Conversly the Drive Club track has minimal trackside eye-candy: a boring fence and lots of trees. The fence and trees didn't impress anyone. There are a few balloons and far away sail boats, but these are barely noticible when driving.

So my suggestion is to add a LOT more trackside eye-candy. More buildings, bridges, tunnels, people, signs, etc. It's the trackside eye-candy that impressed in Forza 5 and will help convince folks that Drive Club is also beautiful.

Obviously, eye-candy has to be balanced with frame rate, but previous Motorstorm games have proven that Evolution can achieve both.
