Smart move by MS. Identical consoles mean consumers they will focus more on games and price. If only they reduced the price, everything would be peachy.

This is a perfectly reasonable line of thought. Why hasn't this been reported by anyone else? The DRM rumor/news was everywhere

Nothing on IGN, Giantbomb, Polygon any twitter hits from anyone, not even Kotaku is biting on this.
I think people are seriously losing their shit without checking the roll here.

I've been saying this for the last few pages but no one listens to me. :(

Maybe it's not being picked up because it's a friggin email to a PR relations company doing Xbox work, who obviously got mixed up as to what's required or not.

This is exactly the same as if Target priced the XB1 at $399, then corrected it to $499 one minute later, with a thread going up saying "RUMOR: Xbox One price to be at $399?"

Everyone is cheering and stuff over what MS done and now is rumored to do. I feel like these moves are mistakes. It's like people have closed minds and don't wan to even consider new ideas/ gameplay options.

We had a few years now to see what Kinect was all about. It was complete trash.

The only genres it did anything remotely for was mini-game trash and dance party games, and those had their day in the sun already (as if we needed more shallow, emptyminded garbage in the industry). Virtually every other genre is ruined by the product, because without tactile feedback and the efficiency and reliability of a button press, the vast majority of game experiences are inferior. That's just the way it is, and that's something that can never be improved with Kinect technology given what it is. By its nature it removes tactile feedback, and thus relegates itself to the realm of paltry, forgettable gimmicks more appealing to ADHD set who constantly needs "TEH INNOVATIONS" regardless of whether those innovations are any good or not to stay interested than to hardcore gamers who actually care about things like responsive and reliable controls.

In the YEARS we've had Kinect out, there has hardly been a single new idea brought to the table, a single genre outside of those two I mentioned improved in any appreciable way.

What's left with Kinect now is a heartbeat sensor (oh boy I can't wait for what crap devs are going to do with this *roll eyes*) and the microphone, the ladder of which could have been done with a simple headset or microphone built into the console and thus removing the need for a $100 increase in price for a gaming device that is worthless for most gaming applications.

You don't actually believe this, do you?

I do. I don't care about used games, I have wonderful internet, and I have multiple Xboxes at home(s) and work. And I'm in a pretty large family with a lot of gamers, so it really sounded like the perfect proposition for me.

I want my digital content to be on digital shelves wherever I go. Not on crappy plastic rings littered across my house.

Instead of something truly unique and pioneering, we're stuck with a boring lump of crap, no different to the PS4. If I just wanted better graphics, I'd have bought a PC.

Isnt that pretty much what PS4 is? A PS3 with prettier graphics minus the cell tech?

Yup and that is the way it should be. I think most Xbox fans just want a more powerful 360 without any bullshit attached. They might get it after all if we are lucky. But I dunno how invested MS is in having Kinect bundled till the end of time.

This whole Xbone is a super advanced jedi fucking mind trick

now with the inevitable $399 they keep fueling the positive news cycle and somehow end ahead of PS4. Genius!

Not really. Most people already committed to ps4 games and bundles on promotion after e3. If these people switch they can't get Xbox games on these same promotions. That ship has sailed. Details wise they are almost even with ps4 but the price difference still leaves them behind.

Not to mention they have done a tremendous amount of damage to their image not just in the details but mainly in the spinning of all the bad policies and treating is like idiots.

True or not, Microsoft's PR effort over the last month has been hilariously awesome. They're so incapable of selling their vision and have been reduced to being entirely reactive in such a short time period. I wouldn't trust a damned thing Microsoft says to be true for more than a week at a time.

At this point they could offer to blow me and I wouldn't trust them.

If all you care about are graphics, then sure Xbox One < PS4 < PC. But better graphics don't automatically make a better game.

That's where theoretically Kinect comes in (as well as Smartglass). There'll be a sufficiently large Kinect install base to make use of the device. If a game makes good use of these platform features, then it could very well turn out better than a slightly nicer looking PS4 version.

Kinect can only make the experience worse. Smartglass, too.

I had no interest in the Kinect this gen and have no interest in it next gen. Not to the tune of a 25% increase in cost of the system at least. If it was included at essentially no cost then I'd accept it.

Motion controls suck in general -- we've had a long time to figure this out. It isn't about being close-minded when you've already determined for the better part of a decade that something is not appealing.

Am I wrong or is this rumor just removing the KINECT MUST BE PLUGGED IN requirement and nothing else? Why are people talking about pricing and skus?

Any games that used the Kinect in a major way will probably have to be delayed.

In addition, I imagine that some of the firmware and OS would have to be redesigned.

those preorder numbers must have had MS shook

They still aren't looking that great but it is early. According to cheapassgamer Microsofts change of plans had about a 10% increase (PS4 was at close to 60% preorders and now is at 50%) in preorders.

Microsoft put all this DRM shite in their console - "fuck you Microsoft, this is awful"

Microsoft cave in and take out all the DRM shite - "fuck you Microsoft, this is awful

Some people can't be pleased.

Either way, I'm happy with all the changes they've made except for axing the family plan. Hopefully they can bring that back some time down the road.

Really, all I want from them is indie self-publishing. That's it. I don't know why they didn't have it in place in the first place, as that seemed like a no-brainer, but it doesn't matter. Just do it, please!

If this is true, anyone who buys an XBone at launch who doesn't want a Kinect is a sucker. This seems to pave the way for Microsoft to announce a new sku after sales taper off next Spring or so. When that happens, I'll consider getting one.

This whole saga has me questioning MS's decision making as a whole. Sure, they aren't completely blind and backtracked but boy I don't know what they were thinking when they came into this thing with that sort of message. It seems like they are scrapping a lot of their "vision" for the console and shoehorning new software at the last minute (relatively speaking) in a desperate bid to respond. Why this wasn't well thought out in the first place is beyond me. Then again MS decision making in the consumer market has been lacking since Gates left.

"Wow, Microsoft! What a consumer-friendly company you are!"

Sony has lost the plot. They should have come out in February saying PS4 would savagely maim and kill your whole damn family.

Then backtrack for instant sainthood!

Yep. That's what happens when you try and fuck someone. Microsoft has a long, hard road to travel to win me back.

Nothing appealing? You have to be trolling. Dead Rising 3 looks pretty appealing to me.

People are hoping they are hoping to remove Kinect next, which would be the dumbest thing they could do.

All these R&D money would be wasted like hell, because kinect 2 wouldn't even sell close to that amount of kinect1.

This would be so stupid.

I hope it's not the case, because the devs wouldn't support it after a while and it would be kinect 1-crap all over again.

this if true is going to slowly revert back to people saying ps4 is more powerful and hence it's going to be like this generation where the ps3 is more powerful but almost everyone bought an xbox

lol some interesting stuff going on

yeah, everyone is going to buy a more expensive less powerful console.

I'm disappointed if it's true. At this point there's nothing separating either console from PC (except they're going to be far inferior :( ).

I've got Kinect for my Xbox 360 and it wouldn't bother me in the slightest if I never had another one for Xbox One.

Just navigating by voice is a chore. It's much faster using the gamepad.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
RRoD probably added to sales if anything lol. I know it did for me personally.

Same.
My launch 360 RROD'd again a couple days before Halo 3 hit.
I went straight out and bought another one, then sold the launch unit when it came back from repair.

Am I wrong or is this rumor just removing the KINECT MUST BE PLUGGED IN requirement and nothing else? Why are people talking about pricing and skus?

Because if the plugged in thing is true it opens a way for a Kinectless SKU with cheaper price?

Not saying it's happening (.gif) but I'm in the camp that thinks it would be the smart thing to do.

They can probably remove the 'mandated' part of kinect but still recommend it is plugged in at all times. They need to sell all that fisting action to shrink the screen to mainstream consumers.

And if yields are bad there is no point getting preorders up (unless they just want to clock lock Sony and have customers waiting until January for their consoles)

If they are doing this, it's reasonable to assume that they are making a Kinect-less Xbox One.

Perhaps, even, a $350 Xbox One.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Am I wrong or is this rumor just removing the KINECT MUST BE PLUGGED IN requirement and nothing else? Why are people talking about pricing and skus?

And it's even coming from just one (questionable) source, with no one else picking it up. TALES FROM MY ASS?

Why are MS doing all the sensible things now, when they knew even before Xbone was announced that people wouldn't like it?

I was under the impression DRM was the problem. The new Kinect didn't affect troops overseas, used games, and region locks. They might drop a potentially good tech amidst all this bullshit and that sucks (let's be for real, who will bother with it if it's not included). Didn't think I'd feel this way about this console.
There were plenty of people who disliked an always on Kinect just as much as they didn't like the DRM. I personally am still not buying it until a price drop or a Kinectless bundle that reduces the price.

Hopefully you're wrong and they will push the Kinect as hard as you want them to, because I'm always up for more options that will intrigue people to play something they wouldn't usually play.

Yea...I don't think there's any way it won't go as planned and be packaged in.

This is going to be a Gamestop wet dream as well.

People not happy with Kinect start trading in Kinect. Core Game comes out that shows unique application of Kinect to the core experience. People run back in and buy used Kinects. Everyone named Gamestop wins!

This whole reversal is Microsoft outside Gamestop's Balcony window holding up a radio playing this
