Anyone have any experience installing a PS360+? This'll be my first stick mod and want to make sure everything is right.

Don't worry. It's very hard to mess it up. Just plug the wires into the right holes and connect them to the proper buttons. Then plug a USB cord into the USB jack (optionally run it out of the stick through a Neutrik adapter) and you're good to go.

Is there no soldering required? I've gotten conflicting reports.

Ahh yeah. For that you'll have to solder a few times. Never installed one into a TE myself but I did find a tutorial video on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kew3cyvEgcs

It only looks like a few solders so you should be able to do it even with no experience.

EDIT: If you really don't want to solder it looks like the newest firmware lets you use Start+Select as a Home/Guide shortcut.

Shouldn't be any different from that video even though it was the original PS360 right? Time to quickly figure out how to use the old soldering iron I have :p

LS/DP/RS switching in PS360+ are done by button macros (Select+Combination of buttons). Just check the Software PDF's from the main site, everything is explained there.

I noticed that but my stick has a lock/unlock switch and the LS/DP/RS switch and would prefer using those. From what I am reading it looks like it is possible to use the physical switches.

Edit: Oh and I need help with something else related. I want to install one of these: http://www.focusattack.com/neutrik-ne8fdp-rj45-feed-through-black/ to my case to make it easier to switch the cables to the PS360+. What would be the best tool to mount it into the stick?

Hmmm so it's definitely worth the investment then.

I've been having a look around and have seen this one too for the same price. Not sold anywhere else that I can see so looks like an import or something but it has the street fighter layout as default, so I wouldn't have to mod it. Anyone have any experience with this one?

That's a good stick, it's basically just the fightstick pro with no specific game branding. I like the angle on the front, it is comfortable.

I could use some help if anyone has experience modding Madcatz Fightsticks.

I'm trying to install a Seimitsu LS-32 and am having some trouble with the screws. The base that the stick attaches to has three holes down the left and right sides, with four screws to keep it in place. Now, the original stick had one screw in each of the four corners, but the LS-32's PCB extends out over the holes. With it in the way there's no way to use a screwdriver. I tried to do it by hand but couldn't get the screws in more than a couple threads.

If you're still with me so far, I tried to use the center holes on the left and right with the idea that two screws would probably be enough. The screws were starting to strip a bit with a regular screwdriver and I couldn't get them in any further, so I figured I'd use my drill to get them back out and try to figure something out. Well, one of the screws stuck and snapped in half when I tried to get it out. I can't get the broken piece out of the hole, so I'm a screw short and it seems like the corner holes are my only choice.

Any tips/ideas?

Anyone have experience installing an RJ45 port on the outside of a TE stick? It's the biggest hurdle I have to deal with when installing my PS360+.

to install seimitsu LS-32-01 properly, there's no way around it, you have to disassemble the stick a little bit, don't worry, it's all common sense and should be easy., just unscrew the bottom metal plate of the stick, that way, you can remove the microswitch pcb temporarily and you have more room to screw the mounting plate on to the bracket.

for madcatz stick brackets there's two ways to do it using the Seimitsu SS plate. you can either use two screws, mounting it using the middle holes TOP and BOTTOM of the mounting bracket... or four corners of the LEFT and RIDE parts of the mounting bracket. get me so far?

here's an image to help you, as to the extent of the joystick dissambly.

that's the one for the left and right mounting points... imo its the better way to mount LS-32's in madcatz sticks...

but seeing that one of your screws were damaged, you can make use of the middle holes on the top and bottom wing of the bracket, as pictured... if you feel like the screw is stripping... its not actually the screw, its the metal plate itself, the other unused holes aren't fully threaded, so you're making the threads as you screw something in it for the first time.

after you're done just safely put back the pcb and gates, make sure the 5pins are facing away from the buttons.,

granted that pic was for an SE stick, but it should be the same for TE sticks.

Astro City 2P stick for the Saturn, Sega official.

Yeah that's sweet, but I wish they made something like that now, for modern consoles and PC's. :-/

There's also the X-Arcade stick which is priced reasonably.
My understanding is that Xarcade is hot garbage. Used to have one at the office, their buttons and sticks are the stuff of nightmares. Dunno if they give you the option to use non-Fisher price parts but I think they're hard to mod too.

I saw a Classic Game Room review of it and he was able to change out the stick fairly easily. I imagine the buttons wouldn't be difficult either.

Some light Googling into the matter reveals that installing HAPP or IL parts isn't too difficult, but replacing the stock parts with Japanese parts is a pain in the ass

Oh interesting. I may get one eventually, I want a Western style stick alongside my TE.

Thanks a lot, but that pic/link seems to be broken. Any chance you could find/host the image elsewhere? Also, I am installing into an SE, not a TE. I don't think I have the option of top and bottom for screws. Just left and right, and top/center/bottom for those. I should have included that I'm following this guide, which is really nice but didn't address the problem with the screws.

my bad, it was hotlinking, should work now.... as you can see instead of teh middle points, you can use the outer 4 corners... imo its much more stable that way, plus u wont have screws lying around... dismantling the LS-32 shouldn't be hard as i've said, it should all fit back in to place perfectly.

just incase you want to replace the set of screws themselves (so you have all 4 again) the size should be M4. They can be found at most hardware stores.

Thanks! I'll head out later to find an extra and then hopefully get everything together tonight.

GAF, I recently came across two used HRAP EX sticks for the 360 on the cheap. I was looking for sticks for the 360 and this was a great deal. The stick and buttons are kinda worn out, though - so I'm looking to probably open these two up and replace the sticks and main buttons and will be using them primarily for fighting games.

Problem is I have no idea where to start as far as modding goes. I've been reading through the thread and there's some good info here, but I am wondering, what does GAF recommend as far as specific makes / models for sticks, buttons, and gates go?

For some reference I own a HRAP V3 SA for the PS3, which I use stock and find works quite well for me.

The HRAP V3 SA uses this stick which is standard in many Japanese arcade cabinets and virtually every high grade fightstick. You don't need to change the gate.

The buttons on the V3 SA are of identical pedigree.

Has anyone here ever been able to successfully get a PS3 Madcatz TE SF4 stick to work on PC? I've searched Google and found a few discussions but it lacked any sort of direction. Seeing this thread, I was hoping someone might have some info. Otherwise I've given up.

Thing is my computer recognizes it, but no response from any buttons and it seems like it's not being powered?

The problem is the PCB on the Mad Catz Round 1 joysticks.
The PS3 versions are just not generally compatible with PC's.
The issue is aggravated by the open-architecture standard of the PC as well as the two rival processors (AMD and Intel) used on PC's.
This was supposedly fixed on the first round of the TE-S design joysticks....
Note: Round 2 joysticks (MvC2, SSFIV, most of the Rd 1-design limited edition joysticks) used the same PCB as the original Round 1 TE releases so they have the same compatibility issue.
You would probably have to use a third party software like Xpadder (last free version was 5.3; it's fine on XP but no guarantees on Vista and higher) or Joy2Pad to have a hope of getting that TE Round 1 to work with the PC and even that's not guaranteed. It can be a pain-and-a-half to get joystick hardware to work with personal computers!

I've had mixed experiences with my stick collection on Mac and PC... So far, the most reliable joysticks have been the ones where I replaced the original PCB's with Toodles' Cthulu PCB's (in my case, the Multi-Console Cthulu which is only $5 more expensive than the standard Cthulu but works with almost 20 different systems). These joysticks have worked with ALL my emulators and PC freeware. Without needing any third party controller software.
The Hori joysticks themselves are hit-and-miss and I'm not entirely sure it's the joystick hardware itself. It appears that the pre-HRAP V3 joysticks are more compatible but even they aren't entirely compatible with some games... I had issues with SNESx playing a "famous" fighting game -- I couldn't adjust the game settings OR the difficulty with my HRAP 3! The same game, however, worked perfectly with my main Cthulu joystick (modded Agetec) a few days prior. The HRAP V3 in general is flaky with SNESx... I noticed the joystick inputs weren't working properly unless I switched the stick setting from "digital" to "Left Stick/analog." I have no idea why that's so. Buttons at least operated like they should with the controller set-up for the emulator. The HRAP V3 seemed to work fine with MAME where it really is a better choice for shooters. IF you want to use rapid-fire, it's better to use a joysticks with SWITCHES for turbo rather than the "Toggle Button" used on the HRAP 3's and HRAP N3/NX joysticks. I don't think the Toggle Button/Turbo works at all with MAME and many other emulators.

The HRAP 2 itself is a mixed bag. It uses a non-USB native PCB and those are hit-and-miss compatibility-wise. Some brands (Sega, Sony, Nintendo, etc.) are just more compatible than others and will be on-and-off useability-wise amongst different emulators and programs. I would presume HRAP 2 Turbo MIGHT work better than on the HRAP 3 since the HRAP 2 uses switches for individual buttons BUT the HRAP 2 itself necessitates a reliable PS2-compatible USB adapter and those have gotten harder to find and essentially the only available, reliable in-production adaptor is sold by eTokki.com last I heard...

I also got a Sega Virtual On Twin-Stick to work on the PC. I had to use two adaptors since it was a Saturn model but the PC did pick up signals from the PCB. It did have to be calibrated specifcally for a game (The Last Starfighter PC game) that I wanted to use it with. The controller itself worked perfectly; the in-game controls themselves are just very awkward and frustrating. I haven't played with a game with controls that actively work against you like that since STAR WARS (1983, original arcade game) which had a very "floaty-feeling" control yoke!

My Qanba should arrive tomorrow. Popped my octo gate out of my old stick, now undecided if I want to use my bat top or my bubble ball top...

I'm slowly starting to realize I'm gonna need an Xbox fight stick. I don't wanna have to joy2key my PS3 TE with every PC fighter and arcade game I play.

Are there any good multi-platform solutions? And am I REALLY gonna have to blow $150 again?

I should probably wait until next-gen sticks are established since it's pretty much confirmed we'll have to re-buy them on PS4 and Xbox One. Hopefully somebody provides a could multi-console cross-gen solution here.

PS3 MadCatz Tournament Edition. The control panel (Vista 32bit) recognizes it properly, but I can't get it to work with any games unless I use MotionJoy or Joy2key.

That's odd. You could install something like the PS360+ into the stick. It's a fairly easy mod and requires no soldering at all. Much cheaper than buying a new stick.

I would redo it so the art isn't obscured by the buttons. See how much free space you have on the left side?
