Battlefield 4 PS4 runs at 720p native [DICE: Incorrect]

Aren't there a whole bunch of xbox and ps3 games thats native resolutions is 540p, like COD I know this is tangentially related but the games native resolution could be lower and still look as magnificent.

The COD games on the current consoles are blurry. Their sub-HD resolutions are readily apparent on both PS3 and Xbox 360.

Huh? PS3 got the timed exclusive DLC for BF3. Unless something drastically changed, then Sony would be the favored one. It's the polar opposite to the COD deals.

Something did change. MS came along with several bags full of cash for EA. That's why second assault is time exclusive for xbox one.

Though I hardly believe the X1 version is gonna have all the effects of the full fledged pc version at 1080p/60fps. That's impossible.

My brother plays cod from time to time on ps3. It looks really bad to be honest. The textures are horrible and its pretty jaggy to me. This is on mp though.

I wouldn't say looks magnificent at all. Decent would be more apt.

Update is more promising news :)

And another thing, even if the PS4 has the same performance as that GPU, wouldn't you need a certain spec'd CPU in order to take full advantage of that GPU?

No, it depends totally on the game.

And I'd repeat: if this game is running at 60fps, I don't think the CPU is at issue.

Nah resolution has nothing to do with the cpu.
it already runs at 60 fps so it means the world simulation is run at 60 fps.
It is the representation of that world that takes to much resources to render at 1080p@60fps. Dice go for 1600:900 at least that should be the floor for next gen resolution.

a poor cpu can bottleneck the gpu though.

People keep comparing the PS4 GPU to the HD 7850 or whatever it is and state that card can run BF4 fine at max detail 1080p.

It's slightly more powerful on paper. The 7850 is rated at 1,75 TFLOPS, and the PS4 is 1.84 TFLOPS. The GTX 660 is around 1.8 TFLOPS but it is different hardware.

Seeing as it is closed hardware though, it should perform better than comparative PC hardware.

1600 X 900.

Believe. I often make this compromise on PC. I can see it being used on consoles.

Before I upgraded last year I was running at that on my GTX 460. Upscaled to 1080p that wouldn't be bad.

I'm use to playing everything down-sampled to 1080p now though.

So Dice says it's bullshit and you guys are still arguing about it?

They said it's running above 720p. They didn't say 1080p...some are wondering what it may be. Of course, you do still have people not reading the update.

7850 can run Crysis on Very High in 1080p without to much problems at around 45fps. With a little optimization i don't see why BF can't run at 1080p60 on the PS4.

Impressive guys, we have gone over 20 pages without a single post blaming the Xbox One for this in some way (well unless i mised it!).

2 years old is not "old". It's respectable enough to get really good performance out of it in the coming years.

The notion that we have "tapped out" the PS4 with a launch title is completely absurd.

If they didn't tapped out then it would running 1080p?
Literal sense that is.

I get it you probably mean after 3 years op optimizing code/assets more smoke and mirrors you can do more effects.

But when heavy hitters like bf4 cant reach 1080p its not an good sign of things to come.
More devs will make the excuse bf4 did it to achieve those graphics what can we give up to do the same given how copy past this industry is.

Anything less than 1080p and I won't even consider buying it. Just reeks of lazy hastily put together port.

I mean, it's practically BF3.

Thanks, love starting the day with a good belly laugh.

That vague second tweet is not a 'nope'.

If they're going to bother to respond to a rumor in the first place, it's rather unhelpful to simply declare, "false," without elaborating in any way as to how exactly it's false.

You honest to goodness believe DICE has already hit the top ceiling of the console's power with Battlefield 4, even before the console itself releases?

The game is clearly unoptimized, not for "lazy devs" or "incompetence" reasons, but for many others. Budget, time, and/or resource constraints are frequently apparent in cross-gen games like this. Remember DICE has to support several platforms of wildly different power at the same time.

No I don't believe they've hit the ceiling of the console's power at all.

I just don't understand how some here think it should be so easy or have the expectation for every game to be 1080p. It's unrealistic and silly IMO.

A 7850 runs BF3 at 1080p at 60fps without any problems.

Oh yes, what a handicapped GPU that is.

It also runs Crysis 3 very well, and that looks better than BF4.

We have no idea about the bottleneck they are running into, so I think it’s silly to assume anything at this point.

1080p60fps it is then?

phew.jpg

I wouldn't say that. It could be a dynamic framebuffer (though unlikely) or something in between 720p and 1080p but upscaled to 1080p.

Thank god, at least it's a step up from 720p. My laptop can only run it at low to medium settings so I have been playing it on ps3 (I prefer lower player count anyway) and I am so freaking tired of 720p since I have to play like 5 feet from my big screen TV. The only things I was hoping for on the next gen version was an increase in resolution and from rate really

That's pretty shitty if they can't do native 1080p with this new hardware. I haven't played a game on my PC at less than 1920x1200 since 2006.

Maybe the Xbox One cannot run BF4 with "60 fps & 1080p" without big graphical compromises and EA dont want big differences between two versions ?

This type of stuff is exactly why publishers don't like showing their games early anymore, and probably why we don't see as many games at conferences anymore.

Some idiots see the game (never accounting for the fact that it's still in development) and then it's off to the races without confirming any facts.

Look at IGN's article. BF4 graphics look bad. Game running at 720.

"Max FPS for BF4 only 24fps?"

And then you have to have developers scramble to say it's not true, but then the damage is already done, because most of the masses don't follow dice on twitter.

How exactly is resolution affected by CPU power? This is a GPU thing. And there are no netbooks with 8-core-Jaguars. Going with a multiple low-power CPU cores is a good idea when you have TDP limits.

Weak CPU -> Some GPU resources need to be reserved for GPGPU duties -> less GPU resources available for graphics -> 720p

I sit over 10' away from a 50" screen, so there's practically no perceptible difference between 720p and 1080p anyway. No big deal. Framerate for a shooter is far more important than resolution.

Sony in 2006 said:
PS3 uses the Blu-ray format for gaming, giving developers 50 GB of high-definition storage on a single disc, while Microsoft's 9 GB DVD gaming format is an obstacle for storing HD content. Furthermore, Microsoft's announced HD games patch is really just a compatibility feature -- upscaling lower-resolution content does not make it Full HD (1080p), something that PS3 can do out of the box

People should stop comparing ps4 to similarly spec'ed pc. A system is more than sum of its parts. If not, every pc with the same CPU and graphics card should perform exact same, right?

Well generally speaking, a console should perform better than a PC with a similar spec, so...
