Watched some stuff.

Railgun 2.19 - Well this is an interesting alternate way to experiment on the Levels 5s I guess.

Tamayura 2.08 - First episode in a while maybe all season that was merely fine for me.

Love Lab #8 - Well. Thats going to push american buttons. Otherwise though the Riko stuff was pure awesome.

Silver Spoon #7 - Another pretty good episode and nicely rounded out Yugo's visits to three different kinds of farms.

Season 3 of Teekyuu was just announced at an event.
will watch

Its a animated promo for the manga (like lots of other series seem to be getting now).and not an announcement of an upcoming anime.

It's just an animated commercial for the manga; no anime series has been announced.

My mistake. I haven't been able to click on any CR articles for some reason so I couldn't get the full details about it. Also it seems someone posted it earlier anyways so I guess I was late to the party.

Umakoshi just did art and character designs. He's not director.

Apparently his hackness must've spread to the members then. Or it was actually a love letter acknowledging what happened in Sharp.

....I mean Heartcatch is a love child, so it makes sense... or something.

Yamada and the Seven Witches 02

After seeing the pretty nice animated manga commercial for this, not very impressed by the jdrama version. Probably due to all the jdrama antics and whatever.

I guess I'll keep watching or something.

You have it backwards, but apparently only Mad Pierrot and I like that shorthand.

Then again, "Umakoshi is a hack" is starting to catch on.

Blame Regulus. I say it in a loving fashion.

.....Wait.... I spent time finishing up a Gundam model that took forever and we barely budged? Fuck yeah.

Hayate no Gotoku!! 05

Boring ass Nagi episode doesn't even deserve a screenshot.

In other news, I'm hearing Liam O'Brien in Xillia right now.

I'd like to give Rozen Maiden a shot, but any synopsis that starts with "A young hikikomori . . ." makes my eyes glaze over. Eh.

I never really liked Jun at all in the episodes of watched of the first season, but the Jun in the 2013 version is older and a marked improvement. Though I wonder how things play out main character wise after the events this season will cover... def going to check out the manga after this finishes.

Also this is probably the first Ryota Ohsaka role I've really liked, he's really burst onto the scene over the last year and I haven't really been a big fan of him. Miyukichi da gawdess as usual and it's nice to see Rie Tanaka in a main role again.

And yeah good shit DEEN, for once.

Aquarion Evol 1-9

What a disappointing show, seems like instead of trying to keep the same formula as the original (similar to power ranger). they are focusing a little bit too much on school life and fan services.

I think my breaking point is when they mention:

"The less you wear, the more powerful you get!"
*girls start stripping*
*Instant power up and beating the boss-of-the-day*
Fuck this shit.

Not to mention they made the combination scenes are 10 times more sexual than the original, I know combination suppose to "feel good", but in Evol it is outright tentacle hentai. Is that really necessary? There are also a lot of attempt on cheesy comedy, most of the jokes are overused or just outright stupid.

The action suck, special move made me scream "wtf is this shit" every time.

THE NEW SOUNDTRACK STINKS. Which is a shame since the original Aquarion had amazing action scenes with along with one of the best anime soundtracks.

The only reason I continue watching this is because I enjoy the original so much. God this is so painful. I just going to go back and rewatch rozen maiden.

That's what gets me. I was watching the OP/ED a few minutes ago and while I was aware it was DEEN, I was still taken aback when I saw the logo (even though I saw it last night) because I'm so used to dogshit DEEN.

Well this is a pretty good way to get me to not want to watch the rest of a series. It's not that the amount of information was overwhelming, but the breakneck pacing and complete lack of emotion simply result in something wholly uninteresting. Visually it seems like there are certain concepts that would be striking if the execution was not quite so inept. It probably doesn't help that each scene is set back so far by hideous and distracting backgrounds. There is some kind of cohesion that is just missing here, and the even when the show seems like it is close to attaining something lousy filter work seems to drag things back into an aesthetic muck.

Poverty drama. The curse of the popular shoujo manga - too big for a crappy anime, but stuck in the jdrama idoru ghetto. It seems like the only compromise is the manga x live action movie route (Usagi Drop, Kimi ni Todoke, and so on). lol

The Light of El Cantare
Mushibugyo 1-5 but mostly 5:

I've been watching an episode a day of this on Crunchyroll while I work out. re ep.5 specifically:
Jinbei is impaled MULTIPLE TIMES by gigantic proboscis tentacles that are presumably sucking his internal organs out and he's okay after a bandage?!!!??!?
Fortunately I'm able to laugh it off given how hyper-shounen the show is as a whole, but that's just ridiculous.

Anyway, I don't really have the presence of mind to be super-critical when I'm doing intense cardio so it's good enough of a distraction. Given that this isn't a long-running shounen I find the parade of character introduction episodes to be especially tedious, but this kind of thing is retroactively forgivable if the show delivers quality character development (I'm not exactly holding my breath). One thing that I appreciate is that the animation is consistently on-model, even if the animation itself is never outstanding and takes the usual battle shounen shortcuts when depicting action.

Jinbei is a Natsu-tier protagonist. OP is pretty fun to listen to.

It makes no sense!

Don't fixate too much on the incorrect chronology given which shows are the "parents" and which show is the "child". "Love child" is just slang for "fusion" in this instance.

Apparently Heartcatch also had Doremi's lead writer, who also wrote for Jewelpet and RPG Densetsu Hepoi.

While I really didn't have much problems with the opening episode, I can see why people would... and regardless the real start of the season is episode 2.

Yamada is shounen, runs in the same mag as Fairy Tail. Magazine just likes to go with jdrama over anime for certain manga, I guess ones they feel fit jdrama better.

Yankee-kun, Bloody Monday both got jdrama, one more manga as well for sure (a sports one IIRC) and I haven't really been keeping up on this so there could be more.

I think it's worrisome that I have started to watch this and expecting the moments a Hueee?! or Funyan will happen.
FREEZE going to Li was BS once again. Also it seems Li has given up on his husbando and is about to fully start going after Sakura instead. Can't blame him. Yukito is creepy.
Foreshadowing is also cranked up to 11once again. 2 more episodes for the end of the season.

Don't fixate too much on the incorrect chronology given which shows are the "parents" and which show is the "child". "Love child" is just slang for "fusion" in this instance.
I don't think it makes as much sense the other way around as a fusion either. That's just what I think though and admittedly I haven't finished Doremi yet and won't be able to restart it until Tuesday at the earliest.

Apparently Heartcatch also had Doremi's lead writer, who also wrote for Jewelpet and RPG Densetsu Hepoi.
The Hero kid's anime needs clearly. I should watch more Hepoi but Korean subs really aren't helpful.

Took a picture of whatever I currently have

It begins..
its too late Im afraid. Youre doomed.

Almost posted a screen of Suigintou looking irritable with a caption of "Nife after getting caught up on the thread" but thought better of it!

Heehee. That would be something!!

I just rewatched the OPs and EDs again, and...I miss Hidamari Sketch so much, you guys. ;_;

Hidamari might leave your sight but it never leaves your heart.

Haibane Renmei 2

Few things I'm wondering after this episode:

-Is the Haibane not being allowed to buy new clothes or use money an imposition put on them by the Haibane Renmei, or is it something the humans have? I'm guessing the former, as that scene with the Toga seemed to indicate that the Haibane Renmei kinda run the town.
-What happened there when Rakka looked at the Toga? She looked paralyzed by fear, with the crow's call being magnified. Did it have something to do with her past town and why she was reborn as a Haibane?
-Why can't they leave the town?

Besides that, I loved the town. And I don't know if I want to call Reki's role toward Rakka as one of a mentor or a maternal one. Maybe somewhere in between.

Haibane Renmei is just as effective for what it doesnt tell you as what it does. Its pretty special in that you really never find some things out intentionally and its up to your interpretation.

All right, i finally got a Blu Ray player with wifi and Youtube on it. Funimation has a bunch of shows up there, just what i needed, moar anime.

We've created a monster!

Darker Than Black - 2

I'm having a REALLY hard time finding a sympathetic angle here in this plot. The police are incompetent, dolls are just advanced robots apparently, contractors are just straight up assassins, those French agents were straight up corrupt. The only character I sympathised with is the woman
and then she dies in episode 2 already, what the fuck?

Darker Than Black is structured (mostly) into short, two episode arcs - the aim was to give each story the feel of a longer drama episode rather than a 22 minute anime. So don't be surprised when characters come and go relatively quickly!

I hope you'll find your worries about sympathies are assuaged as the series goes on - it's very good at developing the central characters well (once you've realised who they are).

I'm going to start rewatching the show fairly soon I think. (don't read this Metrotab it spoils upcoming episodes)
I wonder if I'll like the comedy detective agency episodes any better this time round?

And the soundtrack is out of this world. So good.

I've always found it the least memorable of Kanno's scores, but I should probably give it another listen.

We live on the edge, always toying with the grim reaper as he silently follows us through the sea of the living.

Indeed. But we have a powerful ally known as the defibrillator.

I don't know, but it sure is/was mine.

Hi.

I forgot to watch anime today.

Happy birthday to you and dimb! It was real busy yesterday with convention. Sorry I didnt acknowledge it sooner.

Whoops, forgot about the next Saimoe results

These results are acceptable.

So I was thinking about how Attack on Titan is abusing the hell out of the insert song "Call your name", and I was wondering: are there any other shows have cheesy over-the-top vocal insert songs like that?
Cheesy and over the top may be pushing it for these but Macross Frontier abused the hell out of Aimo for most of the series albeit throwing in a few remixes along the way and the first half dozen episodes of Star Driver loved using Monochrome.

Season 3 of Teekyuu was just announced at an event.
Excellent news. I wonder if this new three minute format for comedy series will become more standard?

Mr.Jeff reads my posts. :)
Haha, on that note, I'll get back to Banner of the Stars II hopefully somewhat soon. I'm watching quite a few shows this season, some of them carryovers and some "backlog" as well, so maybe next season.
I'm not so good at analysing series and how they're composed so I appreciate when people like yourself and Hosanna put in the effort to critique series like that.
I'm looking forward to your thought on Banner of the Stars 2 when you get round to it!

Also, Happy Belated Birthday Tenumi

Genshiken Nidaime #8 - interesting structure, with the episode essentially just two one on one chats. One pre credits and another for the show body. Lots of Hato-kun which is always a big plus. Big questions are answered.

Stolen from Twitter, thank you 7th for retweeting, but this interview with Zack Snyder reveals some interesting influences on Man of Steel's fight sequences:

Anime-Anime said:
(this follows a bit where Anime-Anime congratulates Snyder on the action sequences but says that they're very reminiscent of Dragonball, although that's not a bad thing)

Are you aware of "Dragonball"? If so, did anything in particular inspire you?

I've seen a few episodes of Dragonball. I know it's a major work of anime, and that it has suitably huge-scale battles depicted beautifully. However, in response to your question, there's another anime I've forgotten the name of, where loads of city buildings get destroyed... I know there are loads of such scenes in anime, but this one in particular is possibly like Man Of Steel. I'm sure it's a TV series... hold on a minute *he phones his staff* In the US it's called "Birdy the Mighty".

Oh, "Tetsuwan Birdy"!

Yes!

In Birdy there are also characters who fight in super-powered suits, right?

Absolutely. The city battle scenes in it are so good, they have a huge impact. Also, because in Man Of Steel the fighting is mostly one-on-one hand-to-hand stuff, rather than in, say, The Avengers where they're fighting a huge force, the movie's much more like the fantastic style of anime than other movies.

Honnyaku Konnyaku has posted Youtube links for comparison between Birdy Decode and Man Of Steel.

I like the Birdy sequence, but pretty much hated the Zod fight in Man Of Steel. I think the difference is that for me in live action everything has to look believable (or at least believably stylised, if that makes sense) whereas Man Of Steel slips into blockbuster CG mode and it's completely impossible to believe that anyone's actually doing anything you see on the screen. Birdy, on the other hand, is consistent within its own universe (well, consistent-ish when you've got individual animator styles all over the place!).

That and the first, but neither in the lead role.

Hang on, who are we talking about here? Yamada Takashi?

Looking at the relevant JP Wikipedia articles, I can see he was lead scriptwriter for Heartcatch and Doremi, and a prominent scriptwriter on RPG Densetsu Hepoi, but there doesn't seem to be any indication of him being involved in Jewelpet Kira Deco. It looks like the Jewelpet series he scripted episodes for were the original and Twinkle (plus he scripted the movie, Sweets Dance Princess).
