Square Enix announces "Bravely Default For The Sequel" for 3DS

In the article, the producer says that this is the "complete edition" of Bravely Default, and they want to give people a chance to play a version of the game with all the improvements they've made before they release the sequel. Sounds like the sequel is a done deal, and it would be very shameful if this isn't the EU/US version because the producer has also acknowledged the interest of overseas fans previously.

Oh good, I'll that take as confirmation of a sequel. So yay!

PS: There's no way we'll get that version. It's KH: Final Mix all over again

I hope you're right, but the release date makes me doubtful. I mean if BD is still due for a Europe release late in 2013, it'll be close to simultaneous and it would be unusual to do that, though I guess not unheard of.

It isn't. Postponed to 2014 as well

... man, 3DS has some weird Square-Enix games when looking at those titles

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy
Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance
Bravely Default Flying Fairy

... ... ... crazy folk.

Whoever thinks of SE games titles must be like :

I am really doubting Europe is still getting it this year, expansion or no

These names are genius. Theatre + Rhythm combine to make a new word! It's linguistic alchemy. And Dream Drop Distance... three "D"s... FOR THE 3DS MY GOD. Flying Fairy = FF, which it is heavily inspired by.

And years from now, someone will realize 358/2 Days is the greatest subtitle of all time, our minds just haven't evolved yet to fully understand its magnificence.

Well there goes some of my savings in December. Cool to get an expansion for this great game! And another reason why my 3ds will probably get the most play time this fall for sure.

Knowing S-E, we won't get this version in NA/EU. Remember Joker 2?

That was slightly different. S-E started to localize Joker 2 vanilla, but gave up part way. Nintendo takes up the torch, finishes the localization and publishes the game. Since Joker vanilla was the game S-E mostly translated, it was the one we got in the west.

Fantastic news (sort of)! Shame that they couldn't just show off the sequel and suggest that S-E have confidence in the 3DS as a platform after the bomb that was KH:DDD. So it looks like this + DQM2 remake are all that's coming to the 3DS from S-E at the moment...

Maybe they mean "The sequel for Bravely Default" in a combination of a complete lie, a misunderstanding of English prepositions as postpositions and a poor choice of preposition.

Then we could claim it as some sort of poetic license. But this is Square-Enix...so it's probably just "We like weird titles that really don't make sense"

(358/2 days IS the best subtitle ever! YOU JUST DON'T GET MATH ..or....uh..WHATEVER IT IS :()

The reports suggest that but the official BD twitter said 2013 after that report. I don't think anyone has actually gotten clarification though.

This is not really spoiling anything, but I'll put it in spoiler tags anyways.

The later part of the game doesn't really make anyone want to go through the entire game again.

- New controls for more comfortable play

this is a jrpg right and not some weird claw grip or kid icarus control thing right?

I didn't have any qualms with the controls when I played it.

I would pick up the DLC expansion, but something tells me I'm better off just waiting for the international release and seeing how that is.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch

This really. No way bravely default can come out this year for europe if it is based on this version, since this version will be out in dec.

Dem cycles

I would think that this is where the heart of the expansion will be based around.

I’m about 8 hours in right now and so far I’m not really feeling it. Maybe I’ve gotten a bit burned out on fantasy rpg’s after a slew of fairly realistic visual novels. The production values are great though and I’m sure fans of older FF’s will be able to appreciate this game much more than I do.

I’m interested to see what SE will do with the localization of this game, wouldn’t surprise me if they’d just localize the vanilla version..

Hopefully the new "comfortable" controls are similar to Earthbound, in that you can play the game entirely one-handed.

I'm assuming this is similar to the Senran Kagura localization, where we get both the sequel and the original --but this one isn't really a sequel...

Just realized this, but...

What's to stopping them from releasing this as DLC packs overseas to try and get some pocket change?

The updates don't sound super substantial, but any playability improvements are welcome provided they are indeed rolled into the NA release, since I'm not buying it in JP a second time.

So when it releases in Europe, will it come with said DLC?

Is it even coming? They keep changing minds between 2013 and 2014.

I don't mind the lack of the improvements if they just release it within this year in europe. Make the updates avaible to buy later.

They should be doing refreshed SKUs for games that deserve it more often. It's a cheap way to help them establish a larger base, and I feel games don't (or at least shouldn't) mind it.

Having played the first version and knowing how the game is structured, I won't play it again.
It appears really strange to me that they decided to make this...

Wow this is an awesome news! I was feeling pretty bad not having bought the game as of yet but I'll be certain to pick it up now that we'll get the "complete edition".

Excellent.

Bravely Default and Type-0 are both proof that Square Enix still has talent capable of making excellent RPGs and that the eastern branch of the company is managed by people who don't understand what their western fans want.

Lets hope that changes, but I suggest we don't hold our breath.
