The Qanba Xbox 360 sticks will work on PC right?

Only asking because I see sticks are listed as PS3/PC or 360. I'm pretty sure it does but I want to make sure.

Sanwa doesn't sell the silent foam pads separately.
You have to buy their silent buttons.

You have to find a shop that sells custom-made foam pads.

Right now, I think only Paradise Arcade Shop sells its own foam pads. Several testers say that PA's pads are better than Sanwa's. They also have the advantage that they can be retrofitted into just about any 30mm Sanwa button out there. To, that would seem to be a much cheaper option than having to buy a button every time you want to silence a joystick.

I don't know that PA is selling 24mm silent pads yet but they have pads that supposedly work in BOTH Seimitsu and Sanwa buttons available or under development, too.

Speaking of namco sticks, just got mine in the other day.

Mint condition, no rust or oxidation on plastic, and it still has the original box also in mint condition.

My only gripe was that it was somewhat expensive
$95 shipped
but I thought I deserved it after working 110 hours the past 2 weeks.

any good stick deals floating around?

was gonna buy the wwe brawl stick but popular opinion tells me the stick sucks. my former favorite stick was a hori ex2.

thank you.

Just got this. it's not quite namco stick, but very similar if I do say so myself (the lever is similar to the ones that of Namco's that had a white gate).
I got one that had micros buttons, not rubber contact. they feel fat and high though. Interesting PCB too. might mod, if the buttons annoy me.

edit - lol

I had that same stick for both Saturn and PS1 back in the day. They were good for their time, but poor compared to modern sticks. I guess they get credit for being fairly compact.

ALSO, just wanna mention I'm getting an Xarcade Tankstick soon. This one:

x_arcade_tankstick.jpg

Will post pictures and a personal review when I get it. Will have adapters for a bunch of systems as well, which is cool.

I have heard negative things about Xarcade in the past. From what I remember they don't use arcade-spec buttons and levers, and the button arrangement doesn't follow a standardized panel design.

best stick for $70-$100? maybe $130 max. i'm a hardcore pc player, i want a new quality stick out of the box with 8 buttons that's easily modifiable in case shit breaks down.

will be playing sfiv up to and well beyond ultra, kof, maybe skullgirls and others.

any madcatz deals coming up? perhaps a new line of sticks?

Bad news for my arcade sticks. My ONLY local supplier of laminate top labels in WV just got rid of their stock and deleted it from inventory. I had been there only customer since opening for that product and they will NOT be getting more in.
Yes, I've looked elsewhere...no there is no one. WV is a dead zone for commercial stuff so print shops are few and far between and none of the major places carry this as it gets no use.

Is there a place online I can send graphics to in order to have laminate top labels made for Madcatz arcade sticks and the Hori Wii Stick?

Hmm, you might want to try gameongrafix.com. They make some durable adhesive vinyl labels for arcade panels.

The button layout is basically standard US arcade fighting game layout - 2 straight lines of 3 buttons next to a bat stick. That's actually the layout I grew up with in the arcades, not the Japanese ones we find on today's fight sticks (which are awesome as well). See here:

The extra 2 buttons at the bottom... I guess they'd be useful on consoles if you need access to button 7 and 8. Otherwise I'll just ignore them and/or use plugs if they bug me. But they seem to be in a non-problematic placement.

UPDATE: Maybe this is what the 2 extra buttons are for, LOL! Had to post this image because it's awesome:

As for the sticks, we'll see. I've read that Xarcade improved the sticks over the years. If not, I can easily replace them. I have some Happ Supers laying around from old projects.

Anyway, this thing will look great in front of my 27 inch monitor. =)

QUESTION: if I wanted to someday replace the sticks in the Xarcade with Japanese sicks, what sticks would work? I'm guessing there are no easy solutions since JPN sticks are made for metal panels. :-/

parts shouldn't be that much of an issue these days, arcade parts are easy to obtain now...

SANWA JLW should be a nice fit, the screw posts should line-up... but the metal plate may be wider so it wont exactly fit in the wooden space for the stick, some wood routing/shaving might be needed.

btw, to anyone who owns both, how does the X-Arcade Solo compare to an SF 15th Anniversary stick? (the one by nubytech), i only know both are wood, but which do you feel is sturdier?

It has been ages since I last touched mine, but I'm pretty sure the 15th anniversary stick is made of MDF, not wood. It feels okay though. Sturdy enough.

my old job used to have a tankstick mame setup. if you haven't already placed your order, you might want to reconsider. the parts are utter trash, very stiff and bad feeling. though I guess you could swap for HAPP or IL but how much would you be investing in the stick at that point? surely there are better options.

my inpin converter is sitting at my local usps distribution facility (a good mile or two from my house) and the tracking info still says it hasnt left for delivery.

the anniversary stick is pretty sturdy. i prefer MAS sticks though for american layouts personally...

I got to try out an anniversary stick a while back at a friend's session. It was a nice build, nice and roomy top panel, but the stock parts were garbage. I kinda regret not getting a full-sized MAS when I had the chance. My mini feels sturdy as hell but the palm space is lacking. Still, great to have around and of course all authentic iL parts. Those Arcade in a Box sticks looked pretty nice when they were around. They were another great company as far as American-style builds and they were cool enough to accommodate Japanese parts/layouts.

I had a Hori Fighting Stick SS for years... Cannabilized it a while back; only component I ended up keeping was the connector cord for the MC Cthulu. I sold the joystick case to a fellow in Canada who customized it into a Neo Geo joystick.

In a word, the stock stick is nothing to write home about. Yes, the joystick is about the same as the Namco Arcade stick lever BUT the buttons are awful.

The stock buttons on the Fighting Stick SS (PS1 version is identical save for minor differences in the PCB and a different connector cable) feel like hitting bricks.

It's no wonder I like the Ascii Fighting Stick better. The buttons on that are about as comfortable as standard Sanwa buttons. Joystick levers on the two sticks are about the same... JLF-feel otherwise nothing special.

I got both joysticks towards the end of the Saturn era in the US for under $20. I was able to get the Hori Fighting Stick SS for $10. A bit earlier, I was able to buy two Namco Joysticks at Wal-Mart for $15 a-piece. The 1990s was just not a big era for joysticks and a bunch of controllers ended up on clearance; they just didn't sell well. If Hori hadn't continued making joysticks for the PS2 in Japan and hadn't introduced the HRAP around that time, I don't think we'd have the stick market we have today. The apathy and lack of quality controllers would have killed home arcade sticks. There certainly weren't a lot of joysticks sold in the US during the PS2 era -- not that I can remember. I don't ever recall seeing the Agetec Dreamcast Arcade Stick in the US for that matter...

similar to what GeorgeC said.

if you're gonna be playing saturns shmups though, its actually good enough unmodded. (which is what im mainly using it for)

mainly the only issues I really have is not in the controls, but the construction. It's obviously a sign of the times, designs were very different back then... but yeah, I feel like the metal panel's coating will corrode overtime easily, unless you baby it. but otherwise, it feels very sturdy, more so than some recent HORI FS-line sticks. But yeah, if you can spot a minty one, get it, otherwise, prepare that can of rustoleum for that bottom panel haha.

thanks both of you for the write-ups. sounds like I will continue to wait on HORI SS, possibly indefinitely.

truthfully, I have a ps-> Saturn converter from tototek. might have to just get a HRAP someday. I've been using the 3 button VF4 stick for shmups but I'll be damned if I can do any infinites but chun's in XvSF on pad!

I've wanted one for a few years now as well. I really like the design. And I've used my PS1 version on my Saturn with success. Was my best "Saturn" stick until I got the big twin stick. The SS version certainly looks better than the PS1 and Neo Geo versions.

And the Saturn version is quite easy to find, even new-in-box. You might have to pay close to $100 but they are out there. A lot in generally better shape than what are for the other systems. The Neo version is probably the most difficult to get in decent shape.

Regarding the XArcade talk, a guy at work just gave me a two player XArcade board for free (he knew I was a joystick hound) and I'm currently trying to figure out what to do with it. As others have said the PCB is funky (the version I have requires a PS2 keyboard attached to it to use it with the PC) and the stock parts are no bueno. However I honestly think that the case is quite sturdy and charming in a really utilitarian way. And the big clicky American parts are actually a fun nostalgic change from the Japanese stuff. So considering that American parts are pretty cheap I might fix it up with iL stuff and some 360 PCBs (for PC use) that I have sitting around when I get the chance.

And I've used my PS1 version on my Saturn with success. .

@oneida just to note though, since these sticks are the same, from what i've seen there are PS1 versions of FS PS that had an all abs plastic top panel, it doesnt have screw points visible. Im not sure if these are the earlier or later ones, but I know these usually came with rubber contact buttons... otherwise, internally similar. but yeah, avoid those i guess. not sure if the SS had versions w/o the metal panel, but all ive seen of the SS are rusty/paint chipped, so im guessing it was only the case for the PS's.

That is a good point. It is the heavy metal on the top and bottom that gives the sticks their nice feeling. Plus the "seimitsu" look on the buttons and stick.

Anyways, here is the PS1 version i picked up a couple years ago. It has some sexy old-school branding with the dumpy looking Fighting Stick text, the big-ass PS gold logo and the cool older Hori logo. I really want to finally get the SS version now.

Also, here is a close-up of the CP for my Rhythm Tengoku. I stopped buying a lot of sticks this year to focus on some cabs. This one has a cool CP. Buttons light up when you press them...here it is in service mode and I lit them all up:

the problem with most PS sticks and the tototek converter is that the Saturn has no R2 or L2 equivalent. I have a Namco psx stick and I can't use it because roundhouse doesn't register at all.
