New DriveClub video shows day/night transition

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
I mean, we already have Gran Turismo as Sony's simulation game, so it feels a bit redundant for this game's actual driving to look so similar.

From what I've heard it is a bit more arcady than GT. Nevertheless, I had the same thoughts about the game. Although I am getting it at launch, I can see many people just waiting for GT7 and kill the time in between with GT6.

Now put your signature at the bottom before this catches on like wild fire and everyone forgets to credit the GIF God that made it happen!

Nah, I don't care, and people don't care either. I bet 99% of all people don't know the author of the original version. After 2-3 days everything is forgotten on the internet.

I wish this game's driving model was more arcade-based. It essentially looks like simulation driving model but without the simulation features like the massive car customization and car number, etc. I don't want pure arcade like Split Second or Burnout, but more like Need for Speed Hot Pursuit (Criterion) driving model. I mean, we already have Gran Turismo as Sony's simulation game, so it feels a bit redundant for this game's actual driving to look so similar.

I disagree with that. The devs have repeatedly claimed that they aren't aiming for a true simulation model. It's not going to be like NFS, but it's also going to be far from GT. Think PGR. Sony doesn't have a best selling racer in that genre.

it's not modus though...

What the hell?! The spinning head is way too disturbing! Gives me 'the exorcist' vibes! LOL

The setting and car selection might make it look like a driving simulator, but based on the footage alone, it shouldn't handle like one. The developers themselves said they're aiming for a more arcade oriented feel.

Fast entry into low speed corners are a staple of arcade racing games, and we've seen plenty of those in the footage shown so far. Similarly to NFS, you can powerslide your way through them. I think DC is a bit closer to Forza Horzion than NFS however, but it's difficult to say without playing it. Nonetheless, I'm confident that it will be fun!

Man, I've heard several people say how NFS Rivals is the best looking next-gen racer, and it does indeed look very nice, but to me Driveclub looks quite a bit better. Observe:

Somebody said after a hands-on at Gamescom that the game feels weird, neither sim nor arcade.

I'm pretty sure Driveclub will look better, but your screenshots aren't terribly fair. That NFS shot is compressed to hell, destroying the textures.

Hmm, I downloaded both of them in 1080p from Gamersyde and then did a "Print Screen". Maybe the Driveclub video had a higher bitrate or something?

I think it looks like it plays similar to PGR, which is a good thing. It has challenges mid race whereas PGR had specific challenges as events, but still similar to PGR. This game will definitely fill a space in the genre for me, I'm very optimistic about it. Concerns are few.

How will the cars handle (impressions look good, I hope they hold up when playing the game)
Will releasing at launch hurt the game. I hope they manage to add the majority of their ideas to the game.

No thanks. :) Remember, ban discussion is frowned upon. Lets stay on subject, that's far more interesting.

Aww.

Anyway, I'll buy this game just to support Evolution studios, but what I'd really like is a new motorstorm back in the old death valley from the first one.

What I can tell is that NFS also has TEH JAGGIEZ on the back of the car. Why aren't people killing themselves over them?

If this game plays like PGR then I'll buy a PS4 for it. Though the track design looks much different than PGR so it probably won't feel like it either way.

Probably plays more like Forza Horizon than PGR

I've been asking since they first announced this game, why it exists? People like to say "it's not a sim"! Sure, it's not, but you would never know that by just looking at screenshots. The game looks like a simmish racer, and that's all that matters.

The buzz for this game is nonexistent and I believe it will sell worse than the Motorstorm games. Even at launch there is already a Need for Speed game available. That's a known brand and the game features real cars, it looks great, and most importantly it looks fun. When I watch footage of Driveclub the word fun is not the first thought that crosses my mind.

I would love to see what Evolution could do on PS4 making an over the top arcade racer, but I fear we're just going to see Driveclub sequels for the next 5 years.

looks nothing like GT. hell, it doesnt even look as "sim" as pgr. reminds me of grid 2 with its overdone oversteering power drifts

Of course DriveClub isn't going to light up the charts when it's largely being given away to + subscribers. Seeing as Motorstorm wasn't setting the world on fire either so we might as well see Evolution make the game they actually want to make.

I'm not really judging these codes until they're final code. And honestly, both being 30 fps is a real bummer, graphics be damned.

Come on. How many console arcade racers have you played at 60 fps? Why this demand all of a sudden? Most good developers seem to think the priority for an arcade(ish) racer is generally in the order of fun > gameplay > graphics > fps. May be not in that exact order, but you get the idea. Shouldn't they be allowed to exercise that creative license? Give them a chance! If we start making such demands en masse, then they might change their priorities to appease us. That's the last thing we want in the game creation business - community interference. Let the genius artists do their thing. FPS is smooth enough to not prevent you from enjoying it, if you are into arcade racing. :)

do we know the details of the psn+ version?

as for your second point... say it with me, "W.R.C."

Well after one hour and thirty minutes of waiting in line I had the opportunity of playing Driveclub at the Montreal Comic con, It was either this, AC4 or Knack and I went straight for Driveclub, the build I played was the older one I guess so no nighttime for me, first let me get something out of the way, the PS4 controller is godly, incredible grip and so comfortable at the same time, this is the most significant upgrade controller wise on any console that I have ever seen, now on to the game. I liked what I played, the game felt like a good mix of arcade and simulation so you have to carefully brake and tackle the curves slamming the gas pedal all the time just won't get you anywhere.
Graphics looked impressive, it had the next-gen feeling, you could tell that the game is doing more that a PS3 can handle, lighting was well done but sadly the lack anti aliasing was very noticeable in the foliage and and in the sides of the track, I also experienced one instance of micro stuttering but I am confident that it might be due to being such an old build.
To sum up, I am optimistic about this game, if they iron out those bugs, add some more needed AA we might get us a very nice racing game at launch, oh and again, Dat controller, man what beauty.

Thanks for the balanced review man! I'm so excited about the controller. Haven't heard a single unfavorable comment so far! Considering how polarized the gaming community generally is, that is a big freaking deal!!

I would be rock hard then.

I doubt it will play like that, though. The 'Kudos' based gameplay is pretty unique.

Agreed. I think the driving model is definitely going to be PGR-esque. But everything else sounds very unique. Sucks that details are so sparse!

I'm not demanding anything. I didn't even say "60 fps or bust".
I even get into countless arguments here in GAF with people complaining about the power of these new consoles because games aren't 1080p@60. I'm all for developer choice and freedom.
Having said that, I'm at least more interested in NFS Rivals because despite the slower framerate, the sense of speed seems higher. Driveclub seems to hit a middle place between arcade and driving simulators. I always keep my eye on almost every single racing game (if it's not a driving sim), but I pretty much only end up playing the "pure" arcade ones.
Honestly, i'm still totally pissed Burnout and Wipeout are dead

Haha! Yeah not everything I said was directed towards you. That was just me using your comment as an excuse to get on my soap box :)

I've just seen too many comments on these threads going back and forth about 30 or 60 that I had to let it out. Every time I see that debate, I feel like this:

Well, you are not alone!!! :'(

Are we at a point in game development where most videos don't do the developers justice? I see many comments about screens of DriveClub, NFS: Rivals and other launch titles being compressed and losing detail as a result.

Is there a good way to judge visual fidelity before it's on my television?

Yeah I am telling you, you're going to spend a few minutes just with the controller before taking the PS4 out of the box

Thanks for the impressions. whats micro stuttering though?
It's when the game pauses or stops just for a fraction of a second like it was loading something.

I've been uploading Gamersyde videos to my PS3 and watching them on my television. IQ is one of the biggest things separating current and next gen so I definitely feel screenshots and youtube videos don't cut it.

To some extent, yes. There is a way. Gamersyde is your best friend. Download videos from that site to a thumb stick and play it on your console, smart TV or home theater (basically whatever supports USB). That's what I do for all HQ videos. Media servers may help too, but sometimes the bandwidth isn't enough

EDIT: Beaten!

Why are more Drive Club threads turning into discussions about other racing games? If I wanted to see other racers I would go to their respective threads.

I've seen almost all the footage posted on those games and haven't found much to comment on yet other than The Crew but that's another thread.

We don't really have much to talk about besides graphics unfortunately.

You're stressing out a bit too much.

It's a racing game. Track and point-to-point racing, in very expensive and fast cars.

I'm not exactly tripping over games like this, and no a game where you turbo boost Ferraris, dodging oncoming traffic while being chased by the police is not the same.

Sad, I know. But I'd rather see the thread inactive until the next video/news updates comes, rather than completely digress. For anyone who visits Gaf looking for specific game related info, it would be rather frustrating to see an overwhelming number of unrelated posts.

Another comparison of DriveClub vs NFS. DriveClub wow, when they nail the aliasing the game is gonna look spectacular. Looks like a gen ahead of nfs to me.

*Bonus* Bullshots, just for the lulz.

Looks nothing like the game...why release them.

Let it go, man. You are fueling this further. M0dbus, do you agree with my sentiment? Can we modify the title to keep this from becoming another flame bait thread?

Yeah, definitely a big difference there. However, NFS DOES have a lot of great looking post-processing, and it seems that must be where the brunt of the power is going towards. And it's open-world.

Yes, yes, yes .. just to be sure those NFS shots are from PC and not Xbone/PS3/360?

Yeah pretty sure it's just pc with next-gen console specs.

Didn't know that. Looks like that chromatic aberration is there too.

I don't see anything bad with this :) only stating the truth. But sure, whatever.
