New DriveClub video shows day/night transition

There are some new gameplay videos of DC from TGS, but they're from the same track shown at GC. And apparently, the same old build, the AA problem is the same, much worse than on the new video showing day/night transition.

What the hell, man? ;/

How many times must we go through this in this thread? The build they used for the video was good enough for them take that one video, but not stable enough for them to allow the public loose on it! Evo do a lot of polishing in the last few weeks and so the build is constantly evolving and improving.

Not only that, but before they can release a public demo they need to go through a process of testing etc that all takes time and money - time is the last thing they have right now so it makes more sense to use a build that has already been through that process.

Am gonna need to get one of these new sony tvs to go with the ps4 cause the iq is off the chart. And is one of the few newer sets with a decent input lag compared to the 40 and even 60ms plus that come with the new panasonics and samsungs.

Game looks great now put some more cars on and give us some 60fps videos

what I'm most excited about DriveClub that I think many people often dismiss (we mainly only talk about the visual of the game) is the mini challenges, the competitive aspect of it beyond just getting 1st place. I tried some racing game online, and often times, other player are so good that they left me in the dust and at that point it didn't felt any different than playing alone.

I like the mini mission this game have, I felt it makes me still in the same race and still fighting against someone instead of racing alone in the track since they are so far away, also, the addition of team racing make it more interesting too instead of everyone competing for 1st place, in team versus, every player contribute some point from the mini mission the game have in a track.

it's also bring some variety during the match, and I think imo, will encourage player to try master each of those challenges since they can easily see if they're doing it wrong or not. often times in racing games, I'm not sure how to approach a corner and even after I passed it, I'm not sure if I got it right or bad. the score system hopefully will help making you know how well you did in a corner and can steadily try to improve each corner.

Yeah, that too. Sounds good.

That offscreen footage is actually very good. Just wondering, is this from the latest build? Reason I asked is that there's the aliasing issue and the newer build supposedly has better AA.

Other than that it looks great. Definitely buying this along with KZ:SF and maybe Knack if it turns out good (I'm sure it will) :)

I doubt it would be a different build than gamescon being so close together in time, they are probably in launch crunch and not really time to make a lot of demo builds

The TGS demo is the same build used at Gamecom and has the same aliasing issues.

Since Evolution is now in "crunch mode" getting ready for the launch of PS4 & Driveclub, we will see no new public builds of Driveclub.

However, we are fortunate that Evolution has agreed to periodically release direct-feed gaming footage from their internal builds. The first of these is in the OP showing off day/night transition and the new AA solution. We will be getting more videos in the future.

Its very understandable, obviously for a lot of us outside of game development we look for everytime the game being shown for it to look better and better... but after following the industry for a while you find that it doesn't work that way, not feasible at all :) Making a stable dedicated convention build I'm sure is a pain, and especially in crunch time before a console launch that is certainly not going to take priority over getting the retail game as great as possible (which I'm sure Driveclub will be btw).

So I agree, lay off Evo they got this shit!

EDIT: Also, what is this I am hearing about playing on actual PS4's? Isn't that the only thing that Xbox fanboys were holding onto at this point (the stupid ones, not the ones that are having legitimate discussions about pros and cons between XB1/PS4)?

This! As long as their videos of internal builds show improvement, I see no reason for them to release stable public builds before launch. A significant chunk of the game comes free with PS+ after all, so everyone can try before deciding if it's their cup of tea. Hope they release their next video on Friday. :D

GTA5 is my current TDU replacement. No joke ;P You've got a full day/night cycle, weather, damage, customizations, street racing, off-roading, even traffic and cops.

And oh yeah, you can do other stuff in that game too, or so I've heard.

Open world driving ftw.
It's just the driving it self isn't very real. If it was similar to GTA IV, I'd never stop driving.

Hook it straight into my veins, damnit. Now.

BTW Good to hear another song from the game, love that they seem to be shooting for PGR-esque (ie. UK) electronica :)

Interesting direct comparison to DriveClub now possible with more similar looking tracks (both rural/mountainous). Had to use shots from the older and far more jaggy DriveClub build in some of these, but it's the best we have for now. Obviously it's not really fair given one runs at half the frame rate, but it's interesting seeing the graphical differences either way. Has to make you wonder whether Evolution will actually hit that 60fps target or not (I doubt it).

Mmm, I dunno. The image quality looks pretty rough to me.

Have you seen this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPAQa6Scbdc

My opinion on that vid.

Much of the lighting and shaders do look better, but stripped down in this compressed YT video, some parts I actually prefer the look of F4...I think some of those 2d mountains and vistas are just really realistic looking and vast, and even though a few of the mountains are now 3D, they still don't look quite as awe inspiring, add to that, some of the wide vista shots don't quite look as beautiful or substantial. There's also a fair degree of environmental shadows missing too. It still looks great, but in a more NFS or arcade game esque aesthetic.

I do like that there's more flags, people in the stands etc though. It's not a massive difference but these things do add to the overall atmosphere.

When are they going to show some multi car footage? Would also like to see a car list. For a launch game only a couple of months away I'd have thought there'd be a lot more media about the game.

Forza's motion blur seems higher quality, though the general IQ is worse.
I'm curious about the motion blur.

In the Gamescom build there was no motion blur during gameplay whereas, during the 30 fps replays, the motion blur you see in that vid was present. I'm wondering if they've introduced it into gameplay now.

Driveclub looks to have better scenery and backgrounds, Forza looks to have better looking cars and driving views, cockpit view especially.

I didn't post any cockpit shots of Forza 5. DriveClub does also have a hood cam style view, but they didn't use it in the direct feed footage.

I think the problem at the moment is F5 has too much aliasing on the cars to be able to appreciate the car models or details. Ironically, more aliasing than DriveClub (which used to be jaggier).

Forza just doesn't look next gen at all. It looks like a bright, colorful 360 game with a better res.
Especially if you compare it to Drive Club.

Joke aside, cloud on DC seems like realtime volumetric clouds that have self-shadow technically more advance, but old school skybox on Forza does better job on convincing cloud and look better.

I'm sorry but I take what you say with a grain of salt. Other members have already called you out on your bias.
