so someone posts about having hiv and there are people in here mocking him for getting regular tests, zeroing in on the skinhead thing despite being explained multiple times, and bringing up random old drama from some old thread that has nothing to do with this. what a loving community
and that is why neither you nor him should be giving advice if getting on medication is the first thing you say.

Well...I can't say I like the fact that you are skinhead, but my condolences. With the drugs today you'll probably be able to live a long time. It's not like the death sentence it used to be. Again, I don't approve of the fact that you were or are a skinhead, but you are still a human being and I'll pray for you even though I'm agnostic. Love thy enemy and neighbor right? What good is it to love only those that love you. Where is the reward in that? Even though you'd probably hate me and everything that I believe, I still love you and I hope that you do not suffer. I'll just tell you a little thing that my mother taught me. Whenever you are suffering there is probably a person suffering more than you. Try to offer it up as a sacrifice even if you don't believe God exists. Again, I'm agnostic, but when ever I suffer I try to look at it as something that makes me stronger and an existential gift I can offer up to those who are suffering more. Why are you so certain that it is? People who know his post history mostly know he's into the bdsm thing, and I've known about SHARP skinheads, for example, since I was like 14. It's by far the most obvious explanation.

Since I am uninformed and would like some education on the matter, could you clarify why exactly seeing a doctor about how to take steps towards management of the disease--through medication or otherwise--is not the first thing you should be doing if you contract HIV?
Yeah I know all about SHARP skinheads too, that doesn't mean he is one. He has not mentioned it. Plus they're by far the minority of skinheads. I'm just going on the probabilities, of someone describing themselves as being in a "skinhead" "gang"... he goes out of his way to mention things like bdsm and gay but not SHARP...
Do you know for a fact that there are a separate group of non-racist "bdsm skinheads"?
And it's not like he would get any sympathy here if he admitted that he or his skinhead gang was racist. In fact what reason would he have to NOT lie about it on GAF where not only would he be almost universally condemned, he would probably even be banned?

Well, no one's saying to self-medicate, so how else would one have access to the medications and know what sort of regiment to follow without first seeing a doctor? The document you linked to also recommends that anyone infected with HIV should seek ART. I must have misjudged, because it seemed like you were recommending against seeking a doctor and medication.

Well I know of 'gay skinheads', which categorically tend to be pretty distinct from the other kind. It's not that gay people can't be racist, but racists generally aren't the most gay friendly crowd. And sexual sub-communities are often oriented around a particular aesthetic more than philosophy, and it's kind of obvious why. Most obvious counter-cultures are so removed from their origins the aesthetic is basically all that remains anyways. I would say that that should probably affect your assessment of the probability some.
Does it even matter? Personally, I think it's not helpful and unhealthy for GAF (or the OP) to dwell on the how, including delving into the OP's history and associations.

Kitchenmotors mistakenly thought he was planning to go without medication for his illness and suggested that he shouldn't do that. It was a simple and benign post which is why your reaction puzzled me given the context of the conversation, but I won't derail the thread further. Squabbling isn't really contributing to thread in a positive way.

I don't know you (and I don't think we've ever crossed paths) but I sincerely hope that everything turns out well for you. That's the honest to God truth. I can't even pretend to even have a clue what you're going through...which is why I was hesitant to even post. Being HIV positive....that's pretty rough. I'm sorry that it happened to you. Hopefully you get the treatment you need...as well as whatever you seem to be searching for in life.
