Funny that 99% of the people discussing this werent going to buy it anyway

I really don't think the uproar is over CoD. It's a red flag for future third party ports. Most people expected 1080p/60 to be something of a standard feature in the upcoming gen.

Unless you look at that as the answer.

If it was true 1080p, why would he not say so?

wish i could predict the future. if x1 can match a ps4 game, say a 3rd party like dirt 4, in virtually every way but resolution (720p vs 1080p) i'm ok with that as i'm not as eagle eyed at spotting that. though if the games in addition to or instead of lower res ALSO drop key graphical features (frame rate, lighting, shadows, etc) i might regret this choice.
This is the crux of it all. If the performance differences are as great as predicted then this news isn't just about pixels.

Wow, two threads that go on endlessly for a CoD sequel? What nonsen--

"Call of Duty: Ghosts is 720p on Xbox One."

...How do you drop that ball? Like, really; CoD? The game that's STILL running on an enhanced IdTech engine?! Pleaaaaaase.

Shame for X1; CoD's their smoking gun. Though, I really doubt the demographic of X1/CoD cares about resolution.

To be fair, all of Valve's games are still running on an enhanced Quake 1 engine. Titanfall is as well, since it uses Source.

In microsofts defense could it be that Infinity Ward is just a shitty dev? And before some dufus starts up the team that made the good COD games is now respawn working on Titanfall this is a new team of (possibly inexperienced) devs using the old name and just do what their paymasters tell them.

They might not have the ability to make a consistent port for both platforms given the time constraints

The implications of this are much further reaching than just deciding whether to buy Ghosts on Xbox One or PS4. We've had lots of rumblings that multiplats have a fairly large resolution advantage on PS4, but no one has confirmed or denied anything officially.

This is further rumblings, but where as the previous ones were small tremors, this is a full on earthquake at this point.

If this rumor is true it is the writing on the wall confirming what many of us have speculated for a long time. Namely that PS4 versions of multiplatform titles will demonstrate a notable advantage over the Xbox One versions.

I really doubt it. They've been fine with pretty average graphics for years now

COD fans at large won't care, but don't you think people who are lining up for a new console on day one will know the difference between 1080p and 720p?

Ok let me try to get something like a non-gif conversation going here.

What WOULD be the implications of Call of Duty: Ghosts being 720p on Xbox One, but 1080p on PS4?

Things to discuss ->

● Would there be any long term effect in sales? I personally don't think so - the cards are already set for which system will do better in the first half dozen months. It's what happens when the truly big guns start coming that will matter, not a cross gen game like this.

● Would most potential consumers even care or notice? I don't believe if they walked up into a store and saw the Xbox One version and PS4 version side by side (if the resolution stuff is true) that they would notice. However, systems and games in this industry sell on word-of-mouth more than any other factor. So they may not personally notice it, but they WOULD notice all their gamer friends saying the XBO version is markedly inferior to the PS4 version. Ergo, a boulder starts rolling down a hill...

● What does this say about Xbox One's hardware? Is it not capable of running games that look better than this @ 1080p? Of course not! As we see from Forza 5, it runs at 1080p and 60fps. But, what it may mean is that the added complexity of the system architecture - owing primarily to the ESRam memory set up - is causing hurdles in development, forcing games which are on tight deadlines to have to make concessions on the Xbox One. It has been said that PS4's dev environment was much further ahead in tools, that it is much quicker "to triangle" on the environment than its competitor. This is exactly the type of situation that would play out if true... it's not that Call of Duty is doing things too hard for the Xbox One, it's that the added complexity of the system (and thus the added dev time) is forcing launch window games to have to make more cuts in order to get within that deadline.

● I'll get Call of Duty: Ghosts on PS4 then! But you shouldn't because that shit looks fucking grotesque too.

Discuss!

I am inclined to follow your theory that most people won't notice. I am quite resolution and IQ blind myself. I will happily watch non-HD channels when HD is available to me (UK here so broadcast difference isn't that great between HD and SD)

However we are at a point where high attention gamers, people who read reviews, investigate stuff and will know about a huge resolution downgrade will hold sway. They are going to be getting the best console for them and recommending to friends and family which one is better, Xbox or Playstation. Only a small percentage of gamers are going to be buying a console at or near launch, there opinion will hold a lot of sway and they can't all be fanboys.

Remembering COD is a mass market (casual) game it might be the only one many players are interested in and if word gets out it is better on PS4 then I think we could see XBone stall at launch (in comparison to PS4). If Madden and FIFA suffer form 720p it could be a catastrophe for MS.

Of course in any other industry we could expect the press to give an accurate summary of the situation but since Games Journalism is pretty much an oxymoronic term, who knows what mainstream perception will be, assuming 720p is true.

Um... why would Albert be asking US to compile a list of 1080p XB1 games for him?

Shouldn't HE know?

He works for the FREAKING COMPANY, right?

Yep it was something along the lines of I want X1 no matter what...I don't care about anything just give me X1 !

And that makes me, in your eyes, silly, uninformed, and a worshipper of Microsoft? Come on now. Hear me now, believe me later, the PS4 is a very attractive piece of hardware. I do not dispute that at all. I very may well get one somewhere down the road. I once owned a PS2 and played Killzone on it and loved it. I've been watching the franchise ever since and I saw the new K:SF campaign trailer today and got serious goosebumps from it. I'd love to play K:SF but that means that I would have to get a PS4 which at the moment, in the here and now, I have no desire to do that. I can't make myself want something that I don't want right now, you know what I mean?

Just because a video is 1080p doesn't mean the game is 1080p native.

The ONLY footage of the PS4 version is from the IGN video posted today.

The XB1 version however has been made playable to the public at Gamescom and the EB Expo.
Their are literally hundreds of impressions,videos,etc... of the XB1 version all over the internet of the game from those two events.

Is the COD fanbase honestly going to care?

I dunno, I gave up on understanding why people keep buying every Call of Duty iteration year after year. It's right up there with the mystery of why the XB360 Minecraft ends up in the Top 10 for game sales month after month.

Ok.

Well, fuck being coy, obviously this is the rumor I heard. It's really thin, guys. Really thin. I want two sources on anything I post here or talk about on my podcast but this I really, really wanted two sources on. And there's a few wrinkles to it as well which are interesting (if they are true). I just cannot say whether it's true or not and this is obviously a huge fucking deal. Sales are at stake. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if MS put a goddamn hit out on me.

Anyway, this is the rumor. And it's thin. It's fucking thin. To be completely honest I don't believe it. I mean... it's just weird. Anyway - supposedly Activision is doing a controlled environment review process that only huge ass games can get away with. What I heard was you got to chose a version.... either xbox one or PS4 and you didn't get to see the other one. You then go in and play it at their setup for a certain number of hours and that's it. Someone who saw the Xbox one version claims it's 720p.

Did this person count pixels? Is this known info they are telling people? Is it upscaled? I don't know the answers to any of these questions. It doesn't even make sense to me... CoD is a pretty shitty looking game, why in the hell could it not run at 1080p? I feel like if they took the time they could get the 360 version at 1080p if they wanted to... the engine is older than me. But, that's what was said.

It's impossible to get a second source because everyone is, obviously, under NDA. No one wants to get blacklisted by Activision.

And now for my opinion....

Driveclub being delayed I was pretty damn certain on. It wasn't a flimsy rumor like this. But the one thing that I'm noticing here is that the non-responses are the same. I was nervous about the driveclub thing because I was out here by myself with some random ass site I never heard of (kudos to them for being right though) and if the info ended up being wrong I was going to look like a huge asshole. Each non-answer given made me feel better about being right.

If the game is running at 1080p there's no reason to give non-answers. That's not info you want to hide. So looking at it from this angle - the rumor exists and non answers are given - I feel like that gives credence to the rumor.

But... but... but...! I've been right about a lot of shit. I should have never teased this because this rumor is fucking flimsy. More flimsy than PS4 in October which the entire internet believed. I'm not saying it's true. I expect 900p to be honest. That's a guess. I don't know. I do know there is a lot of chatter about the xbox struggling to hit 1080p.

Also, why the fuck not, Titanfall has been rumored to be targeting 720p on the xbox one as well. I'm sure that probably came up in this thread already by someone... but, yeah, that rumor seems more solid than this CoD one.

That does not explain the reports of the OS crashing and it being shitty online.

No, but...

anigif_enhanced-buzz-30010-1361996448-1.gif

Especially for Call of Duty. Look, am I bummed that a lot of XB1 games are not coming out at the best possible resolution? Yes, of course I am. However, I have no real control over that. One might say that I could just get a PS4 instead and then all of my problems would be solved. However, I don't want a PS4. What I want is an Xbox One. For some on this forum my preference for choosing to get an Xbox One might seem strange or even crazy especially considering all that has happened on this forum and in the real world for the past several months. Does this make me just some random ignorant Sony hating Xbox fanboy? No. Thanks to this forum I am way more aware of how good of a console the PS4 will be. I know more about both of these consoles than I would have ever wanted to ever since I started to lurk through this site back in May. My increased knowledge in both the PS4 and the Xbox One has still not changed how I view Xbox consoles and the numerous years and good memories that I have had owning and playing them. I know that the Xbox One is weaker than the PS4. That fact has been smacked into my brain non-stop for the last several months. While my post up to this point may have sounded incredibly passive-aggressive and "salty", I am legitimately happy for future PS4 owners. They have a great console and some really cool games to look forward to. However, I still love Xbox. I am still a big fan of the Halo franchise and I very much look forward to playing TitanFall on the Xbox One come March 11th. In these times, I choose to be optimistic that the overall performance of the Xbox One will improve with time. I'm sure that everyone here would agree that Gears of War 3 looks leaps and bounds better than Gears of War 1. It is my hope that the process of graphical improvement that took place between GOW1 and GOW3 will repeat itself on Xbox One games. But still to this day, the most important thing for me is having fun playing a game. I do want my games to look good, I mean who wouldn't? As it stands, most of the Xbox One games now actually look really good to me. So the possibility that a game in a franchise that I really really don't like won't look as good on the Xbox One isn't worth a whole hill of beans to me. So yet again, with emphasis...

Pre-emptive damage control? If it ends up being 900p, it will thus be seen as a postive....

There's no way this is 720p....surey... One phone call to MS and they'd have shipped a load of Tech Fellows in to help the development. With all their experience creating DirectX they'd whip this in to shape in no time....

Seriously, MS wouldn't let "their" biggest title ship out at 720, they'd put resources in to it. Or buy Activision. Or something. Anything to ensure, at least, "parity".

If true, this may be the killer blow. This news would make even the most ardent MS fan think twice.

Kinda hard to enforce parity when one console is 50% more powerful than the other.

I asked earlier if Yoshida could do it- just for fun.

But hell, Penello probably should do it. Just to blast these rumors away :/

Did you like Halo 4? Do you like the direction 343 is taking that series?

Because I thought multiplayer was pretty naff...

i love it. but its not perfect. i dont like the direction halo has taken since reach, but its still great. and, 4 plays better then reach in a lot of ways even if it fucked up more stuff.

so, yes i do. i hope 5 returns to halo's roots so to speak, but as long as it has the core of halo i think i'll always love it even if its not exactly what i want and even if i vehemently disagree with some design choices.

Then the parable isn't directed at you.

Pretty much all of the folks in this thread that say they're buying a 180 said it's for the exclusives. So who was the parable for? Flash actually went through the trouble of trying to state that through a long ass post and all IN&OUT got from it was "I'll take anything MS gives me because it's MS". It's like reading comprehension just decided to shit the bed today, lol

I think they are already pushing their hardware potential for multiplatform games. I think Yoshida even said on twitter not all devs would hold back their games for XBO.

But I don't think they can say "CALL OF DUTY: 1080P ONLY ON PS4." Marketing deals with Microsoft and whatnot.

Yeah, I have no doubt they could get it to 1080p. Just not in as timely a fashion as a launch window demands. I expect a few launch games on XBO will be like this, actually (and perhaps even a few on PS4).

I wouldn't be as concerned about that... I'm sure this is about the amount of time the dev can have to optimize this thing when it's only weeks out from release now. Since XBO environment is more complex and causes issues due to its memory set up, games will require more development time to reach parity with PS4 version or even to run more stable in general.

Definitely agree. The fact that they are releasing Ghosts on every single platform known to man should also be taken into consideration. There is clearly a time factor as well.
