famousmortimer: Xbox One OS and Xbox Live issues bouncing about as we approach launch

Major and Penello tried to answer questions only to be thrown shit at. The best choice of action is just to let GAF be GAF (nobody will buy Kinect, Wii U is the greatest thing ever, nobody will buy Kinect again) and answer on launch day. The system will work flawless as advertised and slowly people will realize they've been played hard by the marketing shills they call insiders. GAF is so easy to manipulate, of course marketing on both sides uses that. Isn't it strangely convenient that for every good MS news there is a new bomb hanging over X1? I have never experienced such a campaign to desperately get people to not buy a console. I mean I'm getting an X1 but why should I care what you get?

And if you look closely you see the same BS in every one of the so called insiders posts. Things are incredibad for X1 ... But they might just work it out in time. Resolution is 720p but they are working on it. ESRAM has issues bzt they might make it work. There are yield issues but that could change come launch. The OS and Xbox Live are having huge issues but they have some time left. It's their insurance. To keep their account alive. It's moronic. You either have info and stand behind it with your credibility or you don't. The way it currently works here some can spread the most ridiculous BS and get away with it.

"I heard PS4 will be delayed to 2014 because the system runs too hot with release code and constantly shuts down. Sony is hard at work finding a solution, but they might still make it. Doesn't look good though."

See how that works? If you see the infamous but, be sceptical.

I'm a developer, nothing to do with gamedev btw. this whole thing is a mess, but I feel empathy for the devs working on this.

Probably the DRM switch put them back behind schedule by a huge amount, working behind schedule is never a good thing, being under pressure is the worst of all the problems.

The system also has yet to release. Think of those poor guys at launch, where basically everything will go south because it's launch day and they will have to work even harder to fix things.

I pity them, i really do and you guys should probably thank them, because they are the ones that will work like crazy to deliver you a decent functioning system despite all the shitstorm.

Brilliant post. Nailed it.

Whether or not this piece of news is true, both of you are going to look incredibly stupid on launch day if you believe this.

No matter how much you think GAF is a bunch of rumourmongers, no console in history has launched without a bunch of issues. Including the 360 and OG xbox.

It's not actually brilliant because that would be the only way anyone could leak launch console news.

That's just stating the obvious. Which needs to be done around here and elsewhere since sometimes people overreact.

If FMortimer is right then there is no way, absolutely no way that things will work on launch day. So in less than a month we will absolutely know 100% whether or not this is either true or false.

You are right, it does need to be done. The reactions are insane.

wow. well if this is true lets hope everything gets sorted by launch. on the PS4 side it sounds like Journalist's are miffed about no network access which is hopefully just because the public side of PS4 PSN hasnt been turned on yet.

More like you can't leave GAF without people blowing up over ANYTHING, although there have been a number of legitimate bombs.

My simple comment yesterday stating that some speculative comments didn't match my experience was blown up to a front page N4G article and re-published/tweeted around the internet, things are getting crazily out of control in the lead up to the next gen console launches.

Yeah that sucks... so much buzz around launch windows :(

ok lol

If things really are as bad as being suggested, I hope they can somehow sort it out in time for launch. Or can at least disable everything but the bare minimum of features just so folk can play games on and offline.

At this point, I just want us all to be happily playing the games we love on these new systems we've waited too long for by the end of next month.

I don't know why everyone is ganging up on Krilekk. You know what his name sounds like? Krillin. And at least that certain someone is out on the market. I think he makes very good points.

What are you all folks, and insiders, going to do once the console is out? Will you even have anything to leak then? When there are no small issues to blow out of proportion? When Microsoft has done a last minute save and basically turned the Xbox One into the second coming of Cthulhu? Exactly. Pussies.

I'm going to chalk it up to your junior status and assumed inexperience with this forum, but there is no GAF where the Wii U is the best thing ever.

Probably he's been around just for the past two months. That would actually explain the whole post.

The part I was saying he nailed is the way that all these 'rumours' are tailed with , 'but I could be wrong' which lends no authority to what they are saying one way or the other. If at launch it works fine, people will say 'well he said it might not be true'.

It may very well be true, but just say one way or the other.

except that mortimer waited until he had a couple of sources to back up his story. That makes it less than idle speculation, and he is a reliable poster.

Do you actually have any source saying anything different, or is it just assumption that a company will not have any issues at launch?
To be honest, his sources are pretty vague as is his data.

Well I have heard Cthulhu is very polite in the way he lordes over you and rules with an iron tentacle........

They can always leak games.

It was. Thank you. At this point so much news is flooding in the only possible option seems to be to wait and see what turns out to be true at to what extent. This shit is crazier every hour.

Why Microsoft and Sony want to be secretive when the backlash is only going to be worse if people 'stumble' into these major issues at launch is beyond me...

It is important that they get your money first. Will they have to return it? Maybe. But they'll cross that bridge when they get to it. If you planned to get the console on day one, it's still in their best interest to let that happen.

At least that's what they think.

You really love the taste of crow, don't you?

I'd imagine thats clients as in clients and servers. Trouble getting clients (Xbones) talking to the servers.

Oh, of course. Not sure why I didn't think of that. Thanks.

I think all of us understand that and appreciate their anonymous efforts. We only know the heads, and those are the ones that will roll if shit hits the fan while the hands try to frantically keep the boat going.

They should delay the Xbone until february/march/april 2014. Fix all issues and release a COMPLETE package which is working as it should (and not only in 16 countries).
Don't release another broken product, knowing it is broken (see the Xbox360 story).

I can understand the pressure part but they're still being paid to do a job.

The RROD was different because although MS obviously knew it was going to happen, they could just lie and pretend they had no idea, they can't pretend they don't know the OS is borked, if it is.

Due to the anticipation and large launch of the Xbox One entertainment system, Xbox Live users are experiencing issues with navigating and using features. We are working hard to fix these issues and hope all consumers enjoy what the Xbox One offers.

Thank you for supporting the Xbox One.

Expect a statement like this if issues arise during launch and afterward. I doubt Microsoft or any other corporation being outright with the issues at hand.

You can't say definitely one way or another, when there's still a month to go.

These issues look serious and seem like they'll take time to mitigate, BUT hypothetically some aspects of them could be resolved in the remaining time.

Hedging the rumor is prudent and preserves your credibility because obviously anything can happen. It isn't a copout, it's allowing for the possibility of change.

I don't expect Microsoft to make an official statement stating just how bad everything is, but as someone who has defended/supported them over the last 10+ years I want to know that everything will be fine.

I don't want to pay £430 for something that is fundamentally broken and could take weeks/months to resolve. I can appreciate that some functionality might not be in place at launch, but what is there should work.

No more bullshit, no smoke and mirrors just be honest.

Sigh. J.Allard....where for art thou??? Return and save us from this misery.

Biggest mistake MS ever made in letting him and Bach leave. I don't believe it's unfair to say their departure destroyed the division and we're only really seeing the effect of that now ...

Kin was led by him, no?

I never excluded myself from the statement. I overreact all the time, my passions are difficult to contain ;)

Absolutely. I have reacted crazily as well many times, but I am mellowing recently. Just let the facts come out and then go crazy if it's bad news. The actual facts.

Like the 720p COD thread that went nuclear. We still don't know the outcome.

I think the problem might be MS honestly can't guarentee what will and won't work properly at launch and thus will reserve those statements until closer to launch

Thank you. The time difference is killing us Europeans with the latest leaks.

You're welcome :)

I've always struggled coming into a thread late and wanted to help people get up to date

If you don't care about Kinect, regardless of what they claim, they're going to have to remove it and drop the price next year, hopefully by March for TitanFall, maybe holding out it the best bet.

for me i'd rather it were this way around. if hardware is stable and these are software issues at least I know i'm not buying a brick and they'll be sorted,

like above I feel very sorry for the devs trying to fix this at the mo if indeed it is this bad.

Just looking at what they are trying to achieve it would be a technical marvel if they pull it off.
All bit needlessly complicated for my taste, but awesome on a technical level.

What a nightmare. Live/Online being borked would greatly damage third parties (Titanfall specially being it a multiplayer only game) and customers alike. Compensation/devolutions in mass if this turns out to be true. Microsoft must deny this shit before it turns viral/toxic. If true then delay.

Titanfall is 2014, enough time for fixes
