Aye, and that's good for gamers.

Most of the problem is that the hardware was designed around the original vision.

Honestly, they need to kill the Kinect in the box, and start chasing Sony on price. Follow up with some great exclusives, and really, they need to re-evaluate their Xbox Gold pricing and paywalls.

I think they will. Once they have sold through the holiday and squeezed every willing purchaser out of the extra $100 they will go cheaper and kinectless.

Additionally, their PR needs to change. Stop playing spec wars, stop with the balance nonsense. Anyone with a basic hardware knowledge knows that their box is lacking in key areas.

Look, Sony has been been guilty of some of the most outrageous PR nonsense in the past. They changed their message and focus.

MS needs to see where Sony was in 2006 and stop emulating it.

Will any of that be enough? I have no idea. I'm not foolish enough to believe MS is dead, but they need to make some additional changes to make this gamer consider them this generation.

This shit just goes in cycles. Thats the way it works. Who knows...By the end of the gen MS could end up being everyone's champion of gaming and Sony could be on the shitlist...Or Nintendo could get their shit together
lol

I really don't get this.

“In essence, it is almost EXACTLY how it was on the PS3, and it is in those API “handshakes” that is breaking the online experience.”

One of the reasons I switched from PS2 to 360 as my primary console was because MS looked to be treating online gaming with the same importance I did... as incredibly important. Sony totally struck out on online for years on the PS3, and has only really caught up and got a comparable (better, given the price) system in the last .. 18 months.

So... why the hell is MS reversing course here? What's the advantage of offloading things like achievements, VOIP, and other services to the game instead of the OS? Especially with their huge marketing push for the Azure cloud and MS' built-in match making?

I don't get it.

You're assuming that people have access to things that they're not sharing because of what, exactly? A bunch of vague tweets from two or three people?

I can promise you that I will be sharing everything I've heard and everything I know, but the work week just started. Be patient, please.
This is the internet. The internet doesn't sleep during pre-launch! Games are important business. You are our slaves! Dance! Dance!

(That was sarcasm)

I really like the comparison that console launches and the lead up to them is similar to a political election.

Safe to say that this was or could be our October Surprise? Regardless of what the rumor actually is, everyone is talking about and it's on everyone's mind.

Nope! Nothing wrong with wanting a company to fail if you believe they are a detrimental influence on your hobby. The Xbone initial reveal and policies have just shown gamers their true colors and how little they regard consumer rights.

Microsoft is a bad influence on the gaming industry and I'd love to see the Xbone fail.

Well.. thats a pretty reductionist take on MS's influence in the industry.

Or Phil could being Launching a console in less than a month and is really busy....
But he has time to answer tweets about a blog and a web forum... Just not XB1 related direct questions?

Time for blogs and forums. Not for the console.

Riiiiiiiiiight.

Isn't Steam a monopoly on PC?
Sony wasn't too bad with the PS2. Except for the arrogance that came as result of its domination at the launch of the ps3.

It's just about a defacto monopoly given its market share. So far Steam has performed far better than other DRM platforms but it's still not ideal (both as a system and a market state), and there's still an enormous potential for Valve to start fucking it up.

I want XB1 and MS to fail, but I don't want there to be a monopoly or for a bunch of people to lose their jobs over it. I recognise that this is impossible; I also recognise that this forum is not, in fact, Business Insider.

Different people making the system this time with a different agenda.

Now scroll down your link and see phill spencer run away when asked a question.

Pretty damning

If I was Phil I wouldn't say shit either because barring him live streaming a bunch of multiplayer matches on Live while party'd up with Major Nelson, Greenberg,Penello and others, there aint shit he can say to change minds. So why bother.

I am guessing people are already losing job over this if any of this is true ( i think is it.)

Also Nintendo and
sadly
IOS

NO, POST EVERYTHING THAT ONE DUDE SAID ON TWITTER OR FORFEIT YOUR JOURNALISM CARD NOW. Keep in mind mods here require "insiders" to have more than one source to post rumors...let's just have every news writer in the press write up every [thirdy party] anonymous tip they get.

It isn't a detriment to your hobby though. All it did was strengthen YOUR console of choice.

MS has shown they want to be steam. I don't see that as not caring about consumer rights because at the end of the day: Steam is badass. I wouldn't mind more of that.

MS is not a bad influence on the industry...Would online console gaming be where it is without MS? Maybe someone would have filled the void but it would certainly be a different landscape.

When they still have quality games left in them they aren't negatively influencing anything. You simply don't like it and THAT'S PERFECTLY FINE! Not trying to change your mind about which console you prefer.

Yeah I almost forgot about that, $600... yeeesh

I think I was on 4chan during that speech.

Yeah, they went ape factor 10, and still rag on sony to this day over last gen, and even this gen.

It also killed all hype I had for the ps3. Went' from a must buy to a 'whatever'.

What I find incredible is that with 3OSes and 3GB of OS reservation, they're now offloading VOIP to the game's code and partition. What are they even doing with that 3GB reservation? That's exactly the kind of thing it should be being used for, surely?

That's a pretty weird take.

They're both trying to make good products that make lots of money.

Competition is good; I'd hope MS sticks around but I would dearly hope they never get control. MS end game has been clear from the start and it's nothing gamers or consumers want.

They don't have journalism cards to turn in. They're enthusiasts with access.

NSA spying of course !

Serious answer , i am guessing it got to do with whatever MS removed due to the NODRM issues.

Well, first and foremost Microsoft is clearly trying to make something else out of our hobby, which is gaming. And, with all my heart, I too want them to fail for it. Not to imagine what would happen to gaming if they'd succeed...

That reservation is for the NSA.

LIVE was the greatest thing to happen to PSN, it lit a fire under Sony's ass find a way to compete and a improved online infrastructure and PS+ was born

MS failing would be devastating for this industry, it would take years for someone else to fill the void which would allow Sony maintain status quo

Microsoft was pretty great for videogames during the original Xbox days and the start of the 360. No longer.

The last 3 years have been rough. This launch software wise is clearly demonstrating the power of competition. MS clearly sat back and said "Well shit. Our software line up has been a little sparse since '10...Let's fix that.

Where as Sony who over the past 3 years have been lauded for their diverse software lineup have slipped this launch.

This stuff goes in cycles.
