He was at DICE, playing through BF4's SP on the Xbox One and the MP on PS4. He was allowed to record everything and he will publish the videos tomorrow.

I wonder if he played single player on Xbox one due to the XBL issues. You would think the xbox one would have showcased multiplayer.

I'm a little glad the we're getting the PS4 a week later than the U.S. Gives us an indication how the network will cope on release day and through the week.

Unless Sony or MS eff up in such a way that they can't fix issues period then I don't see what the big deal is. I didn't expect either console to work perfectly day 1.
Much like we don't expect our cars to work when we buy them. Much like we don't expect our homes to have roofs when we move in. Much like we don't have expect our phones to work when we pay for a contract. Much like I don't expect my insulin to work when I inject it.

No. We buy it - it should work. Minor... MINOR network issues aside - the product shouldn't be breaking on an OS level upon launch.

The only thing I recall Sony getting called on prior to launch was $600.

Immediately after the fateful 2006 conference people were saying things like 'well it's clear that gaming was never Sony's priority...it was always just a trojan horse for entertainment' in wake of $599.

Gaming fans don't seem to have much of a sense of irony, it seems.

I wasnt on here for the last gen war pre-launch... I imagine it was the opposite of this time around.. PS3 and Sony getting shredded to bits?
Yep! The moment Kaz announced the price during the E3 conference..... hell broke loose.

Competition though is what prevents monopoly.

Laws against cartels, price fixing, ownership and other non-competitive activity are what prevent monopolies. Once a company gets large enough in any given market, it can simply buy any new tech or competitors and either adopt what they're doing or bury the innovation, depending on how the internal politics of the monopoly work.

MS' own history demonstrates this - they tried to do it with Netscape by claiming that IE was critical to the Windows OS this forcing everyone to use IE to browse the internet, and it took court actions in the US, EU and several other territories to make them stop.

IBM were the same up until the late 70s/early 80s when their own attempt to monopolise the desktop space was scuppered by the big anti-trust investigation into their server business, and - ironically - early MS and Gates' vision that the real money & power would be in OS & applications, not hardware.

MS has changed their focus though (For now). They got rid of DRM. They responded to consumer backlash, and Sony's competition and have responded accordingly.

Not defending them by any stretch, but they are essentially doing exactly what they need to do to stay competitive.

Aye, and that's good for gamers.

Most of the problem is that the hardware was designed around the original vision.

Honestly, they need to kill the Kinect in the box, and start chasing Sony on price. Follow up with some great exclusives, and really, they need to re-evaluate their Xbox Gold pricing and paywalls.

Additionally, their PR needs to change. Stop playing spec wars, stop with the balance nonsense. Anyone with a basic hardware knowledge knows that their box is lacking in key areas.

Look, Sony has been been guilty of some of the most outrageous PR nonsense in the past. They changed their message and focus.

MS needs to see where Sony was in 2006 and stop emulating it.

Will any of that be enough? I have no idea. I'm not foolish enough to believe MS is dead, but they need to make some additional changes to make this gamer consider them this generation.

Ehh, no biggie to me personally as I've already decided to revisit the xbox one when halo 5 is released. The news is disappointing but Microsoft has had a rough go since the drm/180 thing. It's their own doing by failing to gain the support of core gaming enthusiasts in the initial reveals. We've always known Microsoft was never going to be content without expanding their user base beyond the current console market paradigms, and I don't expect them to be.

I'm sure that they are hard at work and I hope that day one xbox enthusiasts have as smooth of an experience as possible. I'm getting a ps4 and I hope the same for Sony and me lol. I want both companies to be successful as long as they produce software that I want to play, I'm super interested in Ryse and Titanfall, so I have a pony in the race, and Halo is by far my favorite console fps.

Not only that, but hopefully by the time Europe and Australia launch, Sony would have added more servers to cope with the demand.

Can we name all the crickets making noise in the absolute silence of the games press as regards these really big problems?

You guys have access to potentially damaging info and don't share it. This is across the board. Submit a reason for this near-universal silence or accept our speculation.

You guys have fallen down, don't blame us for noticing.

I don't know that it's as simple as that.

In order to do their job they need to have access to the developers and publishers. No one is going to let them do so, plus they face legal action if they break an NDA.

I have my issues with Jason (DC specifically) but the dude's been pretty straight on here otherwise and I don't see why he wouldn't purposefully hold back information unless he simply doesn't know or cannot say for fear of repercussions.

Some people are frustrated that MS has not directly responded to the rumors. Honestly, I dont think they can. At this point, the waters are WAY too hostile to get into. I work for a small regional wireless carrier. Anytime we try to respond to an issue public, we get shat upon. Social media and forums are a very hard place to address the public.

I am not saying I DO know how MS should respond. I have no idea what they can do to dispel any of the rumors or negative thoughts right now.

Obviously they would keep a lid on it while they try to sort things out to the best of their ability with the time they have left. But woe unto Microsoft if this ends up being even close to as bad as it is currently being painted... lawds.

I respect him for coming here and actually posting instead of shit talking from twitter. I look at you Gies and Kuchera.

I missed Jschreier...What did he say?

And about Gies and Kuchera, Gies in particular, is another fanboy, one pretending to be a journalist at that, really needed?...oh lets not forget "truth to power" Seriously? Nah Screw that, shit or get of the pot. Or you know what do not pretend to be journos and just admit that you are just another extension of the PR machine and overall a fanboy.

He's talking about Schreier being on GAF in general

Have an ultra responsive OS, Seemless online experience, flawless Kinect integration and launch games that look amazing no matter their native resolution.

Anything else is going to increase the festering of the boil in places like this. The damage is done.

Halo 5 is the one thing I even have remote interest in for the Xbox brand. I do love the halo games. However that being said, I will not be stepping foot close to the Xbox One until Halo 5 is out and I can get the console for 300 dollars.

MS have always wanted to dominate living room entertainment. The 360 was the Trojan horse. Their mission isn't to directly compete with Sony or Nintendo anymore; they are aiming higher and this direction came from the top

MS really needs to do a kinect less bundle to get a good news flow

I agree.

I've never have witnessed something included in a box for any product that specifically has marketing materials flying around telling me that I don't have to use it, it's not required.

It's one of the most bizarre occurrences of the early console war, imo.

If it's not necessary, then drop it, make it an optional purchase, and stop forcing the $100 Kinect tax down my throat.

Yes. Fear is a highly prized virtue in the realm of journalism. Everybody knows that.

These guys are PR reps with relatively long leashes. Their reticence or cowardice or just plain misaligned self-interest makes them pretty useless.

You're acting like a "damn-near monopoly" being created out of all of one console's competition fucking up too bad to gain any significant marketshare hasn't happened twice already. Both times, someone else came along and smacked them off the throne when they got complacent and started thinking they could get away with screwing consumers and/or developers.

When a company fucks up, it deserves the consequences of that fuckup, even if the consequence is them dying and their competition having a monopoly. I'm not saying MS has crossed that line, but "there will be a monopoly" and "people will lose their jobs" aren't valid reasons for them to stick around if they do.

If they were to come out with a piece of shit product that had zero value what so ever then obviously the market would react as such. Wouldn't fault consumers for that.

It was the guy saying "I hope it fails."

It bugged me a little bit that somebody wants something to genuinely fail because he has different tastes and there is an alternate product available he can readily purchase.

I've said this since my first console war... Console wars are stupid. I'm buying both systems so I can have the benefits of both.

You're assuming that people have access to things that they're not sharing because of what, exactly? A bunch of vague tweets from two or three people?

I can promise you that I will be sharing everything I've heard and everything I know, but the work week just started. Be patient, please.

Isn't Steam a monopoly on PC?
Sony wasn't too bad with the PS2. Except for the arrogance that came as result of its domination at the launch of the ps3.

Dumbest thing I have ever heard here. Actually wanting a console to fail. THOUSANDS of jobs at stake, and a product that some people enjoy. Frankly I wouldn't play games any where near as much if Halo wasn't a thing.

If you don't want it don't buy it, but don't wish for it to fail. So stupid.

I bet you desperately wanted Steam to fail too?

Edit: If either Sony or MS were to fail that would leave the other with damn near a monopoly. That is the LAST thing we want.

Nope! Nothing wrong with wanting a company to fail if you believe they are a detrimental influence on your hobby. The Xbone initial reveal and policies have just shown gamers their true colors and how little they regard consumer rights.

Microsoft is a bad influence on the gaming industry and I'd love to see the Xbone fail.

Despite my cynicism about games journalism, I do appreciate you mingling with GAF and being a bit more transparent than others. You've done good work in the last 2 days.

Obviously there were people critical of PR as well but it all stemmed from price, and even then they could justify price because of the blu-ray drive. The negativity surrounding the PS3 happened post launch when people realized how far behind they were with software and featureset. This is a brand new world.
