what firmware?: 1.5

purchased from where?: gamestop

what is your A/V set up like?: hdmi to reciever, receiver to TV

what resolution do you want to output in? 1080p

were you able to get any video signal or none at all?
Yup video good

can you hear audio?
Works great in linear but using Dolby or DTS results in sound skipping. Is there a known issue with this? My reciever notices it just fine but anything but linear PCM has skipping issues with both optical and even hdmi.

Having same issue with skipping. Plays fine audio from tv. Changing to hdmi for sound, then back to optical 5.1 fixes, for a few mins but issue returns.

Everything else rock solid played 7 hours straight other day. Hope this can be fixed via fw. Any others with this issue?

Tried searching the thread for this but didn't see anything. When I use Amazon Instant Video I can start a stream but then after a minute it says it loses connection and freezes up the PS4. Has anyone else had this issue? Did you have a solution?

Can't see the picture here but I assume it's not good due to the sad face.

Switching my Ethernet cable fixed that. Didn't try wireless

Mine runs perfectly fine except it runs loud when playing Killzone (haven't tried another game). I keep hearing people say theirs is virtually silent, but I have nothing to compare to. Is this a sign of bad things to come? I got mine from Amazon, I should be able to exchange at the Sony Store this month/next month, no? Please any advice/opinions would be much appreciated.

Unfortunately, if its continuously loud due to fan noise you need to contact Sony support and set up a repair. I have the same issue and I set up a repair yesterday, and I still wasn't 100% sure at the time the loud fans weren't normal. But last night I went to a friends house and his PS4 was inside a tight cabinet with the front open (less airflow than my PS4 had) and his was still virtually silent so now I know the loud fan noise isn't normal.

And I'm convinced the majority of the problem is with how Amazon shipped them. By setting the PS4 in the bottom of the box with no padding underneath, they made it too easy for a UPS worker to damage the unit. I know people disagree on that, but if I dropped an actual PS4 box from a standing position I'd expect the PS4 inside may get damaged. By shipping it the way Amazon did, it was like UPS employees were doing that multiple times to each PS4. Very disappointed in Amazon's lack of care here, as simply adding padding underneath the PS4 would've been enough to prevent a lot of this damage.

Was your friend playing disc games? Was his place noisy so you wouldn't notice the noise? Did you actually make the room quieter so you could hear if the ps4 was making noise? Right now i have another ps4 from my second pre-order from best buy that i'm either returning or opening up to see if the fan noise is the same, but the likely scenario will be it being just as loud as my amazon one.

Soliderknowsbest's PS4 is broken. He's one of Youtube's top tech reviewers. So it's not just IGN with a broken PS4.

Haven't posted here for a long time, but I just wanted to share my experience, since my issue at first glance seemed similar to the one in this video.

My PS4 worked right out the box, but today I decided I'd like to hook it up to my somewhat pricey surround system. What I did was route the HDMI out from the PS4 to the HDMI in for my receiver, then route the HDMI out from my receiver to the HDMI in on the TV.

At first I had audio but no video, then I had video but no audio. And after about 30 seconds I had neither. I checked the HDMI ports (all fine), and no amount of reconfiguration fixed anything. Even more troublesome, the system wouldn't recognize my finger (meaning it wouldn't turn off or even beep).

Finally I pulled the plug, changed the wiring back to its original state (so the audio is coming from my TV) and plugged it back in. Surprise, everything works perfectly again.

I checked the instruction manual, which didn't mention anything about connecting to receivers, but it did mention something about a User's Guide on the software side, so I checked that and found this .

If I'm reading it correctly, either my device isn't compatible (possible; it worked fine with everything else, but it is about 6 years old) OR they really want you to do audio out through the optical port on the PS4 itself.

Might be common knowledge to most folks, but yeah. If you tried hooking your PS4 up to a receiver and it stopped responding entirely, this post may help. I'm gonna order a SPDIF cable and try that next week.

So after thinking my disc drive had failed me last night I did what others suggested and unplugged it from the wall for a few hours. Just turned it on and it seems to be working fine.

Fwiw, mine has loudness issues and was from amazon. It was actually packed with bubbles all around it, which was shocking.

ok, so I need to deactivate my old system as my primary PS4, but when I go here https://account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/liquid/cam/devices/playstation/ps4/remove-device.action

It says I can only deactivate it from the system itself....which is fucking dead, little help gaf? :p

You can call Sony and they will do it. I did this with my PS3. Also I believe there is an option on the webpage to deactivate every device you have linked to the account but you can only do this like every 6 months or so.

He was playing a disc game, he'd been playing for a while so I'm assuming the data was already cached to the HDD. And yes, the room was quiet and I put my ear right up to the PS4 and it sounded very quiet less than a couple inches away.

Mine is on right now in the XMB with nothing running and it is literally silent. However, after 30 minutes or so of playing Killzone it sounds like the YouTube video I posted. I don't know if I should call Sony or not. Ugh!!!!

I'd eventually get it replaced because something sounding like a jetliner, to me, would indicate that something will eventually fail. I wouldn't replace it right now because it is working and I'd let Sony get a handle on what is going on with a lot of the launch units...you really don't want to be told to swap out your unit and end up with one of the DOA units.

So i was using my PSN just fine, but since yesterday i cant connect. The weird thing is that i can watch Netflix on it (which requires access to the internet), but when i try to sign in to PSN, it shows the "Cannot connect to the internet. (NW-31485-1)" error.

WHAT SHOULD I DO??

How can I confirm if my account is a master account. When setting up my ps4, I selected "new user" (instead of main account) and proceeded to log in with my PS3's master account.

If you can watch netflix but can't connect to psn then chances are it's just psn that is down for you.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks.

Scrolled through a few pages and didn't see this, sorry if it is already posted and answered.
Firmware:1.50
Output:1080P (No issues)

Really my Only issue, is audio output. My games, everything for that matter output in PCM through the TV's digital Dolby. I changed and fooled with a lot of settings on the system, I believe my TV's audio is already set right. My PS3 has always output Dolby EXCEPT in the XMB.

Any idea or similar problems?

Wow, thanks for mentioning that. I need to remember to do that before I return my PS4 tomorrow!

I received a "replacement" PS4 from Amazon, so far so good.
Wait, how did you get a replacement from Amazon? They told me they could only refund my money...

Mostly okay for me so far, Though I recently started playing Resogun and now my trophies will not sync properly (they seem to show up on my PSN account sometimes)

This is the error code I'm getting NP-32157-8 but there is no mention of it on Sony's error code site.

Worst part is, my Resogun trophies seem to have dissapeared and I can't re-earn them. The trophies do not show up on my PS4 or my PSVita.

Update on my problem: I was discussing possible solutions with LouisvilleXV on Reddit and I found that after I removed my local profile from my PS4 then re-created my profile, I was able to sync and earn trophies for Resogun.

So anyone else who has this problem, this is what worked for me!

Also, while not technically troubleshooting related, when I went to pick up the PS4 from Gamestop this morning, they only had like 3, so the clerk talked this other guy there into buying this ridiculous bundle Gamestop is going to start pushing online, was the PS4, extra controller, year of PS Plus, and 8 games for $949.99. He said yeah and had it shipped to his house. I guess that means just buying the system solo is going to be rough going forward.

Yep, works fine with my PS3 and 360. Literally never had an issue before. And the problem with the PS4 is very random...sometimes it works fine, sometimes I get a black screen. Not sure what to do.

Sounds like how my ps3 was hdmi handshake issues i think. Screen would randomly go black at different tmes then would come back on like nothing was wrong. Never did figure out what the problem was

That doesn't make any sense. Why would Amazon's PS4's be more faulty? They all come from the same factories in China.

Probably because Amazon sells a shit ton.

They got a bad batch?;

I think its just how its being shipped by Amazon and/or handled by UPS. This is really the first console launch where online pre-orders were ordered in these numbers. How many times have you gotten something shipped only to find it was damaged in transit, some damaged consoles were bound to happen.

So i had the "blue pulsing light of death" no connection at all, sent it back to Amazon

Picked up a new one today at Gamestop (luckily) and it's working beautifully so far.

Exact same hdmi cable and tv, completely different response from the system, so at least for me, it doesn't seem like it was the hdmi or tv, but the system itself

In the settings, do you have it setup to automatically detect the resolution. Maybe manually try setting it to 1080p or 720p (whatever your TV is)?

But you'll only get 5.1 through optical and none of the lossless codecs like DTS-MA.

I'm having a problem I haven't run into yet. Trying to play Assassin's Creed. I started it yesterday and played fine.

Now today I turn on my PS4, click on Assassin's Creed, It looks like the game is about to start, and then it just kicks me back out to the PS4 UI

Anyone run into an issue like this?

since you've used two as well, were the noise levels similar when playing disc games? Presuming your pulsing one could actually play games first :(

I tried to play Assassin's Creed and it wouldn't load. Then I tried to play Killzone and it wouldn't load, but the application started and then wouldn't shut down.

Then I tried to just shut down the system but now it won't even shut down I assume because Killzone application isn't closing

What the fuck do I do as I'm looking at a black screen with just a swirling circle in the middle and a system that is simply not shutting down?
