Xbox One Costs $90 More to Build Than PS4, Teardown Shows ($75 Kinect 2)

2133mhz memory is most definitely not $60 unless it's being sold on some crazy special. Either that or it's shit 1.65v stuff, which I doubt Microsoft is even using.

its amazing how some people still cant accept the new xbox is weaker than the playstation god dam the salt

Reality will slowly set in as more games are released. :p Though I'm not sure what kind of mental gymnastics one would have to go through to still think that after seeing the differences between both versions of games like CoD and BF4.

Some people are just utterly clueless.

Having both Consoles to me the Xbox One feels like it is worth the price much more than the ps4. The x1 gives you a sense of something new and futuristic while the ps4 feels like more of the same with shiny graphics.

I encourage everyone to watch this video again to remind ourselves how much the Xbox team has changed... And not for the better. :/

Yeah, I'm sure you actually own a PS4. lmao. Care to go into a bit of detail about why you feel that way?

My man. THE man. The man that pushed this industry forward. Without him, Xbox LIVE would have been just another way of playing games online.

J Allard was a true visionary.

Back when the xbox brand was one to be respected.

Damn. So much of the vision that was exactly what I wanted from my console the previous 2 gens. And boasting about the specs because they knew they had the powerful shit. Man I miss those times.

It gives me the feeling of owning a VCR circa 1983.

Why is Microsoft having to pay so much for it then? Are you sure everything about the RAM sticks and everything is exactly the same as the consumer version?

The problem is, no one really knows how much Microsoft is paying for it. iSuppli's figures are just a guess based on the pricing data of the parts that MS used.

Didn't even notice that. Checked on Chipworks and they're using 1.5V Hynix chips. Looking at Newegg 8GB of that @ 2133MHz costs $100+, so $60 isn't too surprising in that case.

I am not a huge fan of either console, but it's disappointing to watch this video and see how much things have changed. While the PS4 is more powerful than the XB1, they both went with the good enough power design. I will stick with PC for now.

Fuck yes. You watch that video and it encompasses the design philosophy for the hardware, the multimedia functions, and GAMES. Actual video games. I highly doubt the Xbox team of today holds any kind of small Halo tournament in the offices. Microsoft wasn't doing horrendously at the time as a whole, either. They were respected by businesses in the mobile phone market, XP was a well-received OS, and Xbox 360 was poised to takeover the juggernaut we know as Sony. There was no Zune, there was no laughable Windows 8.1, and Windows Phone and Surface didn't have a place in the world. Apple was not a threat to Microsoft back then. Instead of playing "me too" like they do nowadays, they focused on their strengths. The Xbox 360 was arguably the strongest product Microsoft launched in the last ten years.

How the mighty have fallen, back then when they were a respectable challenge to Sony.

Now?
Shit this might lead to Sony becoming the main system with no competitor.
We don't want that, no one wants that. Nintendo better step their Console game up. We can't have Sony relaxed. If Sony is relaxed all gamers(including me) who own a PS4 will suffer.

Some people refuse to accept it. What makes it worse is when people are trolling along saying the Xbox One is worthless because it is weaker. We get it, the Xbox One isn't as powerful as the PS4, can we please move on to playing games again?

Damn - that video of the old Xbox team made me sad. They had vision, direction, passion, desire to resonate with the gaming community. One could imagine what this same team would have done with the Xbox One.

The industry was just fine when the PS1 and PS2 dominated the competition.

What I wouldn't do for that Xbox. Fuuuuuu.

Thinking of making a thread about what could have been done with Xbox 3 with this original team. You think it'd be worth it?

Also, the cost of the box without Kinect is $347 by this estimate vs $381 for PS4. A Kinect-less SKU would not have much more price flexibility than the PS4 in the grand scheme and GDDR5 prices will come down faster than DDR3 which is already close to base cost. Add in pressure on MS to profit from the outset with the Bone and if anything a Kinect-less SKU will not be able to undercut the PS4 at all and it will be a straight fight on power and first party games, one that I don't believe MS can win.

$407 was the final figure.

Seriously thanks for any info.

Would be better if someone got responses from the old team members on what they think of the current Xbox One, and what they would have changed. If anyone wants to do that I'm sure everyone would love to hear their responses.

Why is DDR3 so expensive now? Last year I bought 8 GB of Corsair DDR3 for $55. Currently it's $109. (AU dollars).

Not to be too cynical but:

"I love the things the Xbox team has done with TV and kinect integration. It creates a very futuristic experience and me and my family just love it. It has been a long time since we first designed the Xbox One, and the market has changed. I couldn't say what, if anything, the olds team would have done differently. I know they have a lot of very smart people in the Xbox division and they know what they're doing. I know the new team has poured everything into this box, just like we did. It's a great product and I wish them every success.

I want a real answer. The original architects know what would have been different. They may not tell you, but pretty much everyone has an opinion. Not that anything will change, we are pretty much stuck with the vision (or what is left of it);
