What's with people's 60fps frenzy lately? Am I the only one who doesn't really 'like' 60fps most of the time?
Call me crazy, but it often makes a game feel too 'gamey' and quick, not as natural or movie-feeling (I guess). For twitch multiplayer it makes more sense I suppose, but I actually don't get the big fuss about 60fps.
Is it because if 30fps ever dips it's highly noticeable, whereas 60fps dipping isn't something most would spot as easily? As long as it's hard locked to 30fps and never dips, I don't mind it.
I know. It looks like it's working. There is amazing anti aliasing in this footage, I can't see the aliasing at all. I should have phrases my post better since people probably misread it. I couldn't see any jaggies whatsoever.
You've yet to see Project Cars. Wait till you see PS4 footy of that monster.
Anyway! DriveClub looks fun. To clarify; this is an arcade-racer, in the vein of say, SEGA Rally or NFS? Not a sim, like Forza/GT?
I believe so. It's a shame.
Really? To make something like "Gran Turismo: Da Club" ?
Wow, I was honestly not expecting driveclub to look or play better (still to be seen) than forza but holy crap did that short clip look amazing. I might actually spring for the full version when it comes out instead of the PS plus one.
Why would you not expect it to look better? They've targeted 30fps and arcade racing.
Playing "better" would probably be subjective. I don't enjoy arcade racers like I do sims.
Thought there targetting 60 fps?

Yes, good example. Wipeout is akin to a twitch online shooter in that respect, so I actually can see anything less than 60fps being a hindrance there.I'm with you on this one in terms of not understanding the "OMG THIS ISN'T 60FPS IT'S UNPLAYABLE GARBAGE RABBLE RABBLE RAAARRRRRR crowd."
Obviously I think 60FPS is silky smooth and very fluid, but I would happily play Driveclub at the framerate we see in the encoded videos or the GIFs - it's more than playable there and it looks gorgeous. The game doesn't move so fast that the fluidity of 60 is needed to properly gauge reaction times and play the game.
Something like Wipeout HD on the fastest settings, though, moves in a way that 60 is almost a necessity to see and analyze everything that's flying your way. The framerate on the Vita version (Wipeout 2048) makes it very hard to play at the higher end of the difficulty spectrum.
So... some games need 60fps if they're fast-moving games or require absolute precise timing, but for 90% of what I play, 30 is good!
I am still glad this got delayed. This game being on display now has the chance to sell systems.
Design decision was 30fps at start, later they said they would try to get 60fps, so currently we don't know...
Just by looking at it I'd say 30fps but still looks amazing and it'd be even more amazing if it would be stable 60fps. But better lock at 30 than variable.
Imagine if Polyphony and Evolution got together to work on Gran Turismo 7.
PD works on car models, and Evolution works on the environments and lighting.

You've played both thenAs far as gameplay comparisons go, Driveclub looks better to me. Environments are also richly detailed.
The first rule of Driveclub is you don't talk about frame rate. It is what it is, let the guys making the game decide. Too many cooks, a camel is a horse designed by a committee etc.
What??
Evo should have followed that rule. They were the ones who publicly said they were targeting 60… at least at some point in development. Maybe (probably) not anymore.
If the game looks like this and manages to hit 60? Holy crap, I might barf from the excitement.
News flash - It's not a sim racer. As amazing as it will look, I just can't look forward to a sim racer at 30fps unless it's confirmed locked down unbelievably tight so that I can get used to it.
Do dynamic resolution to hold the framerate if need be.

Are they even trying to be a sim racer? From the trailers I got more of a PGR/Forza Horizon vibeAs amazing as it will look, I just can't look forward to a sim racer at 30fps unless it's confirmed locked down unbelievably tight so that I can get used to it.

The lighting from DriveClub looks incredible, better than what Polyphony has done with GT.
Polyphony Digital on PS4 will be glorious. The lighting from DriveClub looks incredible, better than what Polyphony has done with GT.
Every notable racing or fighting game that I can think of is 60fps. Since Sega and Namco got it started in the Arcades, there was no going back.
Not really considering polyphony are on an inferior hardware and they arguably have the best lighting on any game this genThe lighting from DriveClub looks incredible, better than what Polyphony has done with GT.

DRIVECLUB is an arcade racer and GT is a simulator.
