Saint Seiya Omega Episode 84

With the amount of saints present it didnt really make sense to give us two saints that already fought a rematch. I didnt recall any new attacks being shown either so it was, while a nice premise for an episode, kind of dull in what it set out to do.

Coppelion 13 END

Well, that was super cheesy, particularly the way they ended up
saving and redeeming the Ozu sisters, complete with a hanging-from-ledge scene with impassioned discussion about the point of living
, but I don't mind. I quite like a good happy ending, and this felt like a nice note for the series to go out on.

I don't particularly feel any need to see more of this story, since overall it was nothing that special in the end, but if a second season materialises, I will of course watch it (and hope for moar SUPER AOI).

I'm usually slacking on reading manga and I'm hardly in the manga thread because of it, but I wanted to mention this weird manga in case anyone in here hadn't heard about it either.

It's called Ore ga Doutei wo Sutetara Shinu Ken ni Tsuite.

The gist of it is that your typical harem anime protag that gets all the women is still a playboy when he is age 30. Out of nowhere he is killed. The killer happens to be an old highschool friend of his. At the moment of death the protag's consciousness goes back in time to when the protag was still in high school, though at first the future memories are fragmented. The protag resolves to get the friend that killed him in the future laid, and to stay a virgin until this happens.

Space dandy per air special

Ok that was fucking awful, 10 mins of dumb by the number boob/fanservice talk(I've heard this boobvsbum speech dozen times already this year alone) and fan service shots, those 10mins lasted forever, completely unfunny and unpleasant to watch, I hope the show isn't anything like this if it is, then may god help us all.

Duckroll and Watanabe may have let us down once again.

-Entire thing lacked energy, the robot & ferret come off really dull in the japanese version i watched(2/3 of the main cast), that doesn't sound good for the show I already can't imagine how these three cast members are going to carry this show for 26 episode when they couldn't do it for 10mins in this special.

Oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

They better not just have
killed off the cutest girl of the season
. Apart from anything, that would spoil a rather large portion of the love chain. We'd just be left with
a love triangle centred around worst girl
!

I sincerely doubt
Manaka really is gone for good, though. What I'd like to know is how the heck the show is going to go about the issue of getting her back. Premise notwithstanding, the show has seemed relatively down-to-earth up to this point, with all the supernatural elements having more of a "mystical" than a "magical" feel. Mounting a rescue mission for a girl kidnapped by an ocean god, though, would push the whole thing over into out-and-out fantasy adventure, which would be a massive genre shift that I can't see this show pulling. Not that I'd mind if it did!

Man I'm loving how much the Yamato hype has snowballed during the past week or so.

I can only hope that hype continues into the AOTY thread in order to get more people into it. It's definitely a show that deserves the praise it's been receiving.

Man, now I have to watch 2199, too. Where's a good place to see it?

Yamato 2199 25-26 End

I put off the final two episodes of this partly because of life things but mostly because the has been so good I didn't want it to end. And what an end it was! Definitely share the sentiments that its the best Space Opera in a long time. It will be high on my list come AOTY time.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! And Winter cards! Apparently, our idols can pull trees. Too stronk.

Ichigo apparently is moving rather fast... too fast considering what's about to happen with her.

As for the voting, being a new anime watcher I wish there was a 'best thing not new that you saw for the first time this year' category.

I wouldn't mind that either. I think the GOTY thread did that last year. I did it unofficially last year myself anyway listing a few titles as something like "best anime I saw this year that didn't air this year".

[...]You know, sometimes I do respect my fellow posters opinion on things, but in this case when I finally did watch Hyouka after being prodded by Nafe I felt misled! If in fact most everyone liked the show, then it was not communicated to me in the discourse of the thread itself. Now, to be clear, I've been describing a specific range of time.[...]

Catching up with the thread and I'm coming into the conversation a bit late but... tl;dr just trust Nafe. ;p

Anyway, if all the recent praise for Yamato 2199 isn't enough to get you to watch it, then I'll be recommending you to watch that as well. :)

All this AOTY talk has made it clear Rozen Maiden is going to get shafted in the vote.

I was looking forward to more Rozen Maiden and the fact that RM2013 turned out pretty good means it will probably be somewhere on my AOTY list. :)

You know I'll end up watching it. It's how these things go. :(

Raw raw fight the power! or something, haha.

You could always just switch expectations as well. I thought Valvrave started out kind of cliche and dumb but then I just kind of embraced its silliness and had fun with it for the most part. I was watching the Japanese version of SAO to follow along with ToonamiGaf's comments and initially I thought the show was kind of dumb as well but then I just changed my mindset and kind of laughed at things instead.

Haha, that's mostly a joke. You only get led places you were open to in the first place, and for some that path is through Holo.

Ah, Ok. Like many people, when I was younger I saw different shows with anthropomorphic characters or animals that looked the same but just acted human and while I maybe enjoyed the shows, I didn't really have any particular interests in the characters being animals.

I also like Holo more for her personality where she can be playful and teasing but also serious and witty when she needs to be. I think different anime characters look cute with the nekomimi or fluffy tail thing but I think Holo, for example, would also be fine without them. At different points in the show she wears a cloak to hide her ears and tail anyway but you can still see her eyes and face and the outfit she's wearing and everything and I think she looks still looks cute.

Hito is my gateway to bad anime. That said, until I see Eiken Madp is reigning as having recommended the worst with Apocalypse Zero. Two episodes my ass.

icarus's "recommendation" of the movie Midori - Shoujo Tsubaki might pass those two as worst movie. I haven't seen any of them so I don't know for sure.

Yes it is!

I don't know who does the voice for Bullock in the Japanese dub of Gravity but just imagine if it was Kobayashi. Not having seen the movie though, I have no idea if her voice would really match the character.

Yamato 9

This is more of a commentary on the crew than the episode: This is the last group of fuckups that I'd ever want to go to war with. At least Amuro was a genius; These people have no fucking idea what they are doing. They don't know how the ship works and they don't even want to know.

Naw, VVV is built on its stupidity. SAO wants you to believe that the love of your life is being brainraped in VR land and that you are the only one in the world who can save her. lol

I think zeroshiki said it was probably subbed there, since it's not a big movie. I feel like there are a few times where a good Kobayashi freakout would be put to good use. Watching the Gintama movie, it made me sad that we probably won't get any more Kobayashi freakouts in the near future because she's basically being put out to pasture. Maybe she can do all the little boy roles or something.

Ichigo is fat. Might as well call this "Fat Shaming" the episode. I mean good lord, even her cards, discriminated!

At least Otome the Creamhorn Lemonade didn't discriminate... or at least she was far more subtle about it.

Ohohoho, things are starting to shake up a bit. Dorama Auditions! Stop moving so fast!

I get a feeling that Mizuki is going for a downfall in terms of the like scale.

I don't see how you can draw that conclusion (assuming you are talking about Yamato 2199 and not the original). The crew of the Yamato are pretty capable people in general, and they generally make smart decisions with the information they have at their disposal. Sort of vague spoilers:
The people at the top know what runs the core of the ship; the people underneath them don't because the full information's been hidden from them. This is the military; "obeying orders" is going to be the default attitude. General knowledge about the automatic navigation system is that it's some of alien technology, and there's no real need for people to probe deeper than that.

I feel like I shouldn't be enjoying this show as much as I am. I didn't have very high expectations going in but I'm pleasantly surprised by how charming the show is. Hopefully we see an episode where the brother will have a role to play.

Valvrave 24 END

So that was kind of fun I guess. Haruto
lost all his memories and died as expected, leaving the love triangle forever unresolved
. The world
was thrown into chaos, the Secret Magius Illuminati Whatever overthrown and a new order founded in their place
, and generally everything happened as it had to happen in order to set up the future we've seen in the flash-forwards.

Best part of the episode was probably
seeing Shouko in the future world, still being all cool and diplomatic-y and stuff, but now wearing what looks like Haruto's old suit
. Team Shouko to the end.

Oh, and
Q-Vier dying
. Finally.

Don't know why some people (well, Corvo) seem to be expecting a sequel series, because based on what I saw in this episode I don't get the feeling that a follow-up is planned at all. Not that I'd be averse to a sequel set in
the future empire, with Shouko as the new protagonist having crazy diplomatic adventures
, but the way all the loose ends were neatly tied up by narration at the end made it eminently clear that the whole revolution plotline in the "present day" was over and done with, and the "future" stuff at the end, particularly the
meeting between Shouko and those new aliens
, felt like an epilogue giving closure to the show's theme of building a new peaceful world, not like anything that was intended to be followed up on.

Do it! I agree with duckroll when he says that it's the best space opera since Babylon 5.

I find it interesting that nobody here is figured out the secret to Yamato 2199 yet, the reason why it feels so different from a lot of other works is because this is a remake of one of the greatest space operas of all time. It has been kind of cheating in that regard, but it is also good to see this updated for the modern era while retaining those throwback sensibilities that make it feel so different then anything else on the market. Though this is also the reason why I think Gundam Build Fighters and Gatchaman Crowds are the better titles because they can stand alone and they use the old icons to build something for the modern era. I would not call Yamato a pointless remake, but I would not call it a needed one either.

Look, as someone who has watched some of the original Yamato series, I can tell you that 2199 is considerably different - in fact, it does exactly what you say, "use the old icons to build something for the modern era". The original Yamato is an ultra-cheesy, cartoony, sexist, and ultimately dull product of its time that I can't appreciate now for much beyond its mechanical animation. Meanwhile 2199 is a masterpiece with nuanced, layered character development, careful fleshing-out of both sides of the conflict, and intricate plotting, tied up in an attractive and strongly directed package. There is no reason to watch the original Yamato other than historical reasons, but everyone who appreciates good fiction should watch 2199.

So a fellow White Album 2 fan pointed me to a detailed summary/review of the conclusion to the story in the VN that wasn't animated (at least not yet).

http://mdzanime.me/2013/12/29/white-album-2-concluding-chapter-coda-rough-summary/

Worth reading I think, unless you have faith that we will see the conclusion animated I guess (which I could imagine could work as a 3-4 part OVA) or prefer the ending in your head to be unpolluted.

Heartache in there. And I guess given the three offered endings, I probably would agree with the review writer. Though its certainly not the overall ending that I'd prefer. But man...as at various points in the show it made me want to punch Haruki in the face a bit.

Its interesting though that there was no 'Haruki chases Touma to Europe' option in there. That along with 'Haruki and Setsuna split up and so the three never reuinite' were the ways that I'd have expected the story to go given the end. Well that and the fanservicey 'The three living together in europe with Touma and Setsuna sharing Haruki'.

I do agree that it is a really wonderful remake brought to the modern era with a minimum of modern anime conventions ruining it, not completely mind you since that love trinagle uses tropes I have grown to really fucking hate, god damn tsunderes and dense anime protagonists. Also ditching elements like the fucking bee people is welcome.

I'm not going to read the spoiler but I came to that conclusion from watching. If there's a problem, there are at least two or three people to chime in with the fact that they have no idea in the world what anyone is talking about. I know that they were selected at the last minute, but Godddd are they aggravating.

Consistently reminds me of me whenever I play some games, even his whole thing about being higher leveled than the AI but still managing to lose, why is it always like that and so hard, it just doesnt make sense, currently even facing this in Rise's place in p4g. The first floor even.

Dungeon stuff was good the rest wasnt really, laughed at the continuing Hide and Seek game.

Learning what I have learned recently has made me appreciative of what they are doing in this arc.

I don't think Yamato 2199 has a genuine love triangle. There are gestures to one between Kodai, Yuki, and Akira, but Akira's feelings don't really go anywhere and it's pretty much just a relationship between Kodai and Yuki.

started reading log horizon now that vol1 is finally translated... so the mmo wasn't SAO as in online VR game, it was just a standard ass mmo that had WoW level of subs.

And apparently half the population are at old lvl 90 cap. Weird the show made it seem like lvl 90s were pretty rare.

I know. It's mostly the constant repetition of the fact that is annoying me. No one seems to be learning and they take every opportunity to vocalize their ignorance of the ships functions.

Do you have an example?

No one single event sticks out.
