The shitstorm that will hit when Titanfall is 720p will be the one to settle the power debate once and for all. Especially since the 360 version is not developed by Respawn.

The waters are only rougher from here, folks.

How can it only get rougher from here? Sky falls down too much on NeoGAF sometimes. It's unfortunate that Tomb Raider Xbox One can't hit 60 frames and PS4 can't hit a steady 60 frames, but it only gets better from here as long as developers are more used to the new consoles and optimize better in the future.

Indeed. If Titanfall is 720p on Xbox One I am buying he PC version. Which sucks to say since I am yearning for a good game to play on my XBO.

720p with a game as graphically in impressive as Titanfall is absolutely unacceptable for a next gen only game.

Time will tell.

It's also on 360...

Pretty sure it's been a rumor for a while now, but nothing confirmed about the final product. I doubt it'll be higher than 720p though. Sucks though cuz it's freaking source.

not confirmed, but i remember that the developers always said that they would drop the resolution to 720p if they need to (for 60 fps).

Hm, ok. Watched one of those Titanfall alpha videos today (or it might have been just discussing the alpha) and the guy said 720p like that was it.

I don't think so. Someone with connections (Thruway?) rumored it would be and Respawn said that they value frame rate above all else, but it hasn't been confirmed yet.

Iirc, Cboat dropped it in that cod ghosts resolution-gate thread, and shut penello up with it.

funny that its called the definitive edition...

the thing is its probably going to sell the same number of copies on both consoles

I guarantee you it sells better on the PS4. In fact, I think all multplatform games have thus far. I'm talking world wide here not just the US.

The "power debate" ended a while ago based on the spec information of the consoles. Some simply won't move on from it though.

And yes, I'm pretty sure that Titanfall is 720p since I have a good feeling that it would have been confirmed by now if it was 1080p (it would have added to the hype). Still looking forward to it.

I agree with you though that it's going to be crazy when it's confirmed (again, if it's true which I'm pretty sure it is).

I've seen this a couple of times in this thread. Curious to know why it would be a big deal. I thought people have resigned to the idea that it is going to be 720p. The day they said "framerate is king" in response to the resolution question, it was quite clear, wasn't it?

Also, if the power debate is not settled by now, I don't think it ever will. Delusions die hard.

Who cares really. It's not gonna stop people from buying/enjoying the xbox version. This just seems like a story to incite a fanboy war on various game sites. I say just enjoy the game and move on.

where you get this info from?

It's what the producer apparently said in the stream, I think, plus I believe it's also in the OP 45fps during less heavy/intensive scenes, around 30fps in heavier ones. PS4 attempts to hit 60fps most of the time and does a pretty good job of it. It dips slightly below 60fps in more heavier scenes. So, you'll see between 30-45fps on xbox one, and you'll get 60fps on the PS4 with something a bit lower on the heavier scenes, but what that number might be hasn't been provided. I hope this forced parity on resolution is a rare thing this gen. Would hate to see more devs doing this to their Xbox One titles, when they can get more out of the hardware by just dropping the resolution a bit. Already said this, but this is far worse than 720p or 900p vs 1080p imo, Sacrificing resolution in favor of the rest of the important stuff is one thing, but going for the same resolution, knowing that the xbox one gpu isn't as capable on the higher 1080p resolution is basically an intentional gimping of the game, which could be in the area of frame rate (confirmed), graphics quality (speculation), or both (likely).

True, but it's a very disturbing decision by the dev imo. I would hate to see more devs aiming to have both games versions run at 1080p at the expense of what I believe are the more important aspects of the game. It wouldn't have killed them to lower the resolution while still having a beautiful game that performed better.

I had KZ from day 1. It's the constantly changing stuttering I'm annoyed at. Locked 30 you'll soon forget about since it's the same stuttering all the time. If it's unlocked and the framerate is fluctuating somewhere between 60 and 30 you'll constantly be reminded that they never reached their target, as in it simply looks unoptimized.

Then it must be me because it's never been anything but silky smooth for me.

People who owns both consoles and is looking for the better version of a multiplat game. Where have you been last gen?

To be fair to the reddit thread, there are a lot of honest X1 fans too. I don't actually have a problem with X1 fans saying their still going to buy OR 'it doesn't matter, I can't tell the difference'. What I have a problem with is people who have both the X1 and the PS4 but STILL insist they're going to buy the X1 version. It doesn't make sense.

Well then they better hit solid 60 FPS! :p

What a stupid question. The reaction in this thread and on reddit etc. should answer that for you.

I also found this incredibly frustrating.

That said, there's still hope that Tomb Raider will operate at a higher average framerate.

Honestly, I'd rather they simply disable the Tres-fx features in exchange for a higher framerate. It was a pretty demanding feature on the PC and I'd imagine that's true here as well. I'm sure most people would gladly trade hair for framerate.

The XB1 version sounds as if it runs similarly to Knack, however, which is not good at all. They should have locked it to 30 fps.

Just as it was foolish to buy third party games for PS3 last gen, it's foolish to do the same for Xbox One this gen.

Makes more sense this time since the more powerful console is actually better, though.

This industry is weird sometimes!

For some reason I feel the urge to point out to you 1) that you therefore grossly misused the phrase 'upwards of' in your first post, and 2) the sentence

The Xbox One build can technically reach around 45 fps, though this performance is generally only achieved during the most empty, simplest environments. For most of your play, and during action scenes, the Xbox One build will sit on around 30 fps

in the OP reaaaally takes some optimistic interpretation to reach your conclusion.

Assuming it's 60 fps and even with dips below 60, this is super impressive, as tressfx was very demanding on pc. I beat it on pc and I disabled tressfx in order to maintain a high frame rate. The fact that a $400 system can run this game with tressfx at a high frame rate is highly impressive.

Now this I agree with. If they still don't hit 60, there will be riots on the streets. I'm scared what of will happen to Tim Dog.

Will surely be interesting to see if they're able to hit it. From some of the alpha footage we've seen (yes, I know it's alpha), there were quite a bit of rough spots, and even times where it would practically freeze.

No. There is still a long way to go in tool and engine optimization and things like HSA and GPGPU functionality will still allow them to grow over time. It may not be a huge spike like there was around 2009 on PS3 but there are still plenty of tricks to learn and ways to improve. The initial difficulty has just been significantly lowered.

These are the exciting things i am patiently wait to see on these new consoles...it's something that PC's are not truly doing yet for gaming and consoles will be the first to "truly" introduce this. I expect to see HUGE improvements at this point as well. Many developers are also really excited about utilizing this technology in these consoles. I guess that is why i am so excited for PS4 even though i am a pretty loyal PC gamer...I am very open to all new graphics technology because it is something I've always loved about gaming. I really feel Cerny and Team knocked out a homerun with PS4 architecture. And Xbox One has this as well so thats good for the X1 gamers too! but i am more excited to see the PS4 harness this tech because of its powerful hardware.

Yes, they bought the hardware and bought the misinformation that was spreading around.

Heh so true...
