Makes sense. Seems to fit right along with BF4 and AC4. Those games have the same framerate (more or less) but a radically different resolution. TR has the same resolution, but a radically different framerate.

35 fps vs 55 fps is a difference very similar to 1600x900 vs 1280x720 (at the same framerate). And it is slightly more pronounced than the difference from 1600x900 to 1920x1080.

My simple math:
55 fps vs 35 fps = 57% faster
1920x1080 vs 1600x900 = 44% more pixels
1600x900 vs 1280x720 = 56% more pixels

Now this is of course assuming BF4 and AC4 have the same frame rate on both consoles. I'm sure they don't exactly.

But safe to say, there are different approaches to getting around that 50% performance gap. I like seeing the different approaches and wonder which you prefer.

Personally, I'd prefer an approach I haven't seen yet. That is: same resolution AND framerate for both consoles, but reduced effects on the Xbone version. This solution is the worst for marketing purposes since anyone can see this difference more clearly, but from a gamer perspective if I choose the Xbone and had a 1080 set, I think I'd prefer to have the same clarity and smoothness of my PS4 neighbors. But that is what I value, and I'm just a hermit crab.

Haven't played this yet so I'm excited to play it on PS4. 60 fps just makes it that much sweeter.

Edit: I did get a text earlier today from Gamestop saying I can pick it up tomorrow.

Misterxmedia doesn't disappoint.

http://misterxmedia.livejournal.com/152578.html

The new excuse is 'driver support'.

The kind of lies and information done by Misterxmedia does not help buyers to feel at peace about their purchase. These people create unrealistic expectation for buyers instead of feeling of contentment. If Xbox owners want to blame anyone, blame people like him, Penello, and Hyrb who constantly create unrealistic expectation about Xbox One everytime they lie of what the system is capable of. When in reality it's anything but.

Or to ensure they still sell some Xbox One copies before more people find out? :)

Don't fear, the Sqeenix spokesperson is ON THAT!

Seriously though 1080P30 is NO reason to pass up a GOTY contender with this fresh coat of next next paint if you have a XB1 and haven't had the chance to play it yet.

If you have both systems it's a no brainier which one to go with.

Perhaps 60FPS (or close to it) will be more common an occurrence this new gen than a lot of us expected, myself included. This is great news.

Targeting and promoting 60fps can actually be used as a way to cut down on rapidly increasing development costs. Instead of being forced to pump out the most bleeding edge visuals possible at the standard 30fps, they can cut back a bit and double the frame rate.

I don't get the disappointment from the xbone subreddit. Why make yourself feel worse if the xbone is the only console you have. TR will be fine and perfectly playable.

I mean I guess I can understand if someone believed MN or Penello and now feels lied to, but I mean if you believed them that's on you not on them. They are doing their job.

Would much prefer a locked framerate. I'll wait to see if there's anything worthwhile in this "version" that warrants a look after I've played it on PC.

Both framerates are unlocked, according to the rumor. I believe the initial rumor does say that both games do have the framerates drop in heavy action scenes. So that would be the case if all this turns out to be true. Each would drop under the 30fps/60fps.

Video diary said 30fps minimum

I'm not entirely sure that targeting 60FPS at the cost of visual fidelity would actually equate to lower budgets. My guess is that resources would simply be allocated to other departments, but I don't work in the industry. Maybe someone who does can confirm?

1080p + 60fps is what I expected

Ill settle for 900p+ and 60fps though. Since bf4 loks fine and its a release game
We'll know in a few years whether or not that expectation is realistic. ;)

Oooh I get it! Because he is the "One". Hehehehehe... wait where are you all going?

Brilliant! But you should start the gif with Morpheus jumping across with PS4 logo on his back. :)

It was just a hypothesis, I don't work in the industry, either.

I dunno, it's worked for Call of Duty. They've gotten away with reusing the same engine for 11 years, because "Hey, it runs at 60fps and you love it!".

I'm gonna pass by a gamestop tomorrow and see if you can grab a PS4 copy.

Hope anyone with an X1 who wants the game doesn't pass it up for something like that. Not worth it.

So far its been met on games I care about

Ill see when more games cone out if its that bigger deal, like infamous/DC/planetside/yhe order

Scary how seamless it is lol

it is

*drum roll*

the definitive version.

You still used a very poor example for your argument. If you're an "xbox man" you would know that 3 out of the 4 PGR releases were 30fps. If anything that would make you believe 30fps is great considering PGR series is arguably the best arcade racing series out there.

sorry, dogg. You have your opinion and I have mine. The FPS in PGR *always* bothered me. It bothered me on the original. It bothered me on PGR2. Moving on to 60fps racing games resolved that frustration. That was the point, and whether the games were good is immaterial to the point...which is that at 60fps they would have been objectively superior experiences, just as all racers are better when they can be presented at 60fps instead of 30fps.

Feel free to argue that PGR was best at 30fps if you like and that it wouldn't have been better at 60fps. Just know I probably won't reply but that I disagree completely.

mother of god this thread has become massive since I left for work this morning. I guess those updates all but put the nail in the coffin of those skeptical at least. Good shit on the reporting, EatChildren.

He never promised he would apologize if he was wrong. That is as much as you can expect from a marketing person.

No, but the expectation of a regular poster who wasn't being directed by marketing according to his own bs, you don't say something like that and don't return and apologize when you are so disgraced. If he had any self-respect or any respect for the community, he would swallow his crow and work to be a better poster in the future.

Of course, we all know the truth of the matter now, so it's no use complaining. Tomb Raider is just adding insult to injury, since this has happened time and time again in multiplatform games.
