Are reporters hounding and pecking at Sony to talk about those things? People are asking Microsoft for comment. AP and MN aren't starting these conversations.
He should simply focus on the Xbox One games and unique features (now and future).
If he ever talks about specs then he should say that the system will "...provide experiences much better than anything possible on last gen consoles and the Wii U -- we will also have unique gaming experiences that the PS4 won't have" (or something similar to that) and nothing else when it comes to that topic.
Continually saying that the Xbox One will outperform the PS4 when the system is getting worse multiplats is pretty silly. Sony never did that with the PS2. They simply let the unique games and features do the talking.
His job is turn things in a positive light. That's his JOB.
You could, you know, just not pay attention to what he's saying.
So he's basically taking the "last gen when the differences suited us they were huge but this gen any differences that don't favour us are minor" route? Can't blame him but if this kind of scrutiny keeps up it's going to be a pretty crazy gen if every difference is poured over.
Personally the situation seems written in stone for me - what I want to see now is just how much a true XB1 exclusive can pull off (i.e. 1st party on a custom engine written from the ground up on the platform) vs just how much a true PS4 exclusive can pull off (again 1st party with custom engine from the ground up).
Then we'll see (without the politics of multi-platform) what the power difference really is.

Here's a period, end of story that happened about two months ago - the ps4 is a more powerful system at a lower price than the Xbox one. Microsoft needs to pay attention to the end of that story and quit trying to fool people.

Apparently one of the new talking points on other forums involves blaming the dev studios as the PS4 and the Xbox One had different teams working on them.

Yep. I agree with AP. They just shipped. The X1 is new. If they're still getting same results by this time next year with 3rd party games, then ya.. they can't do it. But the consoles seem to get better with age. Will see if it's like that again.

Imo, yes. Both have incredibly strong art direction but I would imagine the 900p game with fixed and focused environments giving a little bit more flexibility than the one that is 1080p with outrageously large environments.

Sony launched the PS4 and they called it a day. They're just sitting in their offices waiting for the days to pass by.

While there might be some technical differences between PS4 and Xbox One versions of multiplattform games, I'd like to stress the fact that these are not the only areas where PS4 and Xbox One versions differ. Xbox One versions offer a deeper experience though force feedback in the triggers that gives the player a new way to feel the action on screen. On top of that the Xbox One controller is built for supreme comfort in gameplay. For most games, Kinect also offers unique functionality that improves the immersion into a game. So I think the question of superiority of different versions of games needs to be answered on a lot of different levels and in many ways, I feel, Xbox One is the better platform to play these multi platform releases on. Our own exclusive content for Xbox One also shows that Xbox One can absolutely shine on a technological level. So, I'd recommend you not just to compare some numbers on a sheet, but to take a look at the whole experience when evaluating the Xbox One experience.
Yep, they clearly have no confidence in XBO. I'm someone who doesn't even like or want the product and I have could sell it better than they could with more honesty and understanding of the audience.
And the PS4 will improve in that time too...
People keep asking them about it. And they can get either PR fluff as a response or a 'no comment'. Those are the extent of the possible responses that a PR person can give.
And that's why the dude can't 'keep his mouth shut' about it either.
I mean yeah it's fun to bag on the guy but there's nothing interesting or unexpected about anything he's saying. It's the same predicament Jack Tretton was in when he had to go out and justify the PS3 price not dropping and kept on saying 'In terms of value the PS3 is a great deal and we believe customers.... etc etc".

He should probably just be quiet. All this does is shining the light AGAIN on the difference in framerates for this particular game. And offer some vague promise that since the XB1 is a new machine you won't see this in the future.

Nope, as far as I know. I believe the last time was in a pre-launch interview with Cerny where he mentioned he believed the PS4's power was being slightly downplayed.
Since then, it's only been strategic reveals of differences like the CoD 1080p reveal (which also made Penello look weird, by the way, since the day before he said MS had no way of knowing a third party game's resolution), with no hammering over and over of superior power. MS PR is digging a grave and Sony is just standing there looking.

Be honest. Talk about all the positives of the Xbox One instead of repeatedly acting like there isn't a huge difference when everyone knows it's totally false. They intentionally shipped an underpowered console so they could include other things like kinect and the tv features.
Also...you know...maybe talk about what matters most? Gameplay.
That conversation is what got many hardcore gamers to buy-in to the Wii in its early days. Despite an underpowered console, which Nintendo freely admitted, they focused on what Wii could deliver in new forms of gameplay.
They should be focusing on what sets the Xbox One apart...not repeatedly ramming their head into a wall over something that's a 100% technical fact that isn't going to change.
I wouldn't expect them to do this though, given that they totally backed out on their vision in the first place. It's clear they don't have a defined vision yet because of all the 180s.

Look, I had a lot of time to think about this and I don't believe in what Albert says. I believe that the differences between the responses [PR and Product Planning] is not all that great and I know what is going behind the scenes and I have access to more information about some of this thing than a lot of regular people. Sometimes people tend to neglect the points that are in PS4's favor and they like to highlight the points that suggest Gaf is wrong. I still think Ryse is still the best looking game on the XB1 though. Period. End of story.

The only thing that I MIGHT agree with, is that the X1 could improve as the generation goes on. That as Devs have a better grasp of X1 (and it's better optimized), the gap will be lessened. But he's totally downplaying all this lol. There were a lot of games that were better on PS4. And for any consumer where the bulk of the games they buy in a given year are third party titles, that is troubling.
All this said, (don't jump on me if my above statement is flat out wrong) - I'm ignorant when it comes to tech (specifically console hardware). So maybe the X1 can't improve? It seems like the gap between just raw hardware (the GPU), will always put PS4 with an advantage.
I find it funny how for so many people, the 360 was the better console of choice this last gen, because the majority of games released in a year were just better on it. I know that was true for me. Yeah, I loved some of MS first party titles (most of them got worse as they went on, and MS didn't really invest in any past the half way point in the life cycle). But if I ever had to buy a game at release, it would be for 360 (later on it would be for PC).
Point being, I love how suddenly it's not important this gen. That it's okay that the differences are there. When people are paying that much money for new tech, that's a pretty ridiculous thing to say. And honestly, the difference this gen seem A LOT bigger to me than last gen.

No, but you can say something like. "We believe that the Xbox One offers a true, nextgen experience. With the next gen GUI and the ground breaking technology of the kinect, we believe that the Tomb Raider experience on the Xbox One will be a true next gen experience. blah blah blah."
That's spin without lying. Talk about your positives and what they offer, don't deny reality and expect to not get called on it.

Fair, I understand that it's not as if MS goes out of their way to discuss these stuff.
Still, Penello spilled his spaghetti again by doubling down on his 'power gap', and his insistence of pulling the card of "I know more than you", "look at games" spins and lies.
