i have never been so worried for the next Gears of War title, Black Tusk Studios? had to look them up and honestly the confidence levels for a
Good GOW turnout are at a all time low.

The task for a new studio with some OG Gears talent isnt going to cut it, if we learned anything from Gears Judgement is that putting together
a new team with different design choices... it can potentially kill Gears of War off for good (bad)

We need the Main Epic Games dev team to give this game the proper GOW treatment and ROD.F at the helm doesnt give anybody
any sense of full confidence

Also key point, Multiplayer needs to be along the gameplay mechanics and successions of GOW3 and steer compltey away from everything
that GOWJ tried to do

Not everyone who things GoW is trash is salty. Some just don't like it. I played Gears 1 and 2 on my old gamertag, and did the full 2000 on Gears 3 on my current gamertag. I skipped Judgment, because Gears 3 taught me one thing: the series has run its course. It's getting worse with every installment and doesn't show signs of letting up. It's garbage now. Gears 1 was the best of the 4 games.

This latest news only confirms that I'm glad I left the series behind, because now that it is fully owned by MS it will be milked into oblivion.

This is coming from someone who owned a total of 8 xbox 360 consoles (still own 3 of them) and who has an XB1. The Gears franchise is just worthless now, that's all.
Franchise was getting worse, cause epic didnt give a fuck anymore.
New people working on it, might bring new life to the franchise.

Epic win for MS! (pun intended)

I love that Xbox One will have all the key franchises from the 360 era.

If Microsoft is smart they will give us Gears fans that Gears of War TV series by another director/producer on the level of Spielberg.

Then throw some money at Cliffy B. be another advisor.

TBH it would be nice to see a fresh take on Gears ala 343i.

E3 just got more interesting.

the potential of a new and fresh IP by a new AAA studio vs Gears 1080p/60FPS by a 343i-like studio makes me want this annoucement to be unannounced.

that said, the more TPS love the better.

I really like Gears multiplayer(maybe I'm in the minority?) this is pretty exciting news to me. I think some of you are overstating the whole "no new IPs this gen" idea. Microsoft has already shown off a few new IPs but the Halo, Gears, and Forza games make money, in turn allowing them to take more chances with unproven IPs. I don't see anything wrong with this. Someone was going to make another Gears game sooner or later, may as well lock it down as an exclusive and get the right talent on board.

lol worthless to you maybe

get over yourself a lot of people would love a new game

It may be my nostalgia talking, but I found Gears 1 MP to be the most satisfying.

No team deatmatch.
No Respawns.
4v4
NO PARTY CHAT.

I still remember some matches where it was down 1v1, and even if i was not the one that was alive it was still fun because of the salty chat when you died.

Met some great people and had good times. It was something that was a product of the times.

Lee Perry's MP Design philosophy's for GOW are picture perfect for what Gears needs going forward, i was reading one of his old articles on GOW1's Map design and... wow the guy just nows how to create good flowing maps for GOW

gotta dig up that article

edit

found it

http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/583689-Multiplayer-Map-Theory-by-Lee-Perry

any word on the team who is making it?

We don't know jack shit, other than Rod is working on it and I think (I could be wrong) BT is comprised of people who worked for EA. Yeah...

How is it worthless after 1 gen? MANY skipped judgment it seemed (including me) , it was a spin off not a full fledge Gears game much like ODST (which i personally hated). Theres a talented studio behind it, next gen hardware and fresh perspective. This will most likely be the biggest shift in perspective for Gears yet. Its going to big numbers, it was a good move from MS.

Yep. Wonder if any talent will leave.

Doubt that, MS have gained major talent with Ron and the chance to work on next gen gears is an enviable position to be in.

I didn't say I don't think it will sell well. I think it will sell just fine. CoD's annual installments sell just fine too. I'm just entitled to my opinion, as you are yours, and in my opinion the series has run its course.

Please don't let Gears be milked anymore. All these amazing game franchises from the last gen need to stopped, given time and space to breath and only at a point where a fresh imagination is bestowed upon it, be created again.

There needs to be a big push for fresh IP's. I'm sure there are some great story arc's out there just waiting to be given a chance to shine. Hopefully we'll see that fruit in the next 2 years.

Oh, I understand it from a business perspective.

But from a gamer's perspective, I'm really not happy about this move.

The XBox One is already falling behind the PS4 when it comes to multiplat titles so they need to do something as far as retaining old ip's that were known as XBox games. To me it made perfect sense to acquire the ip and keep the series from hitting the PS4. You have 3 games in the series that sold over 20 million copies. It's still a very big ip and now they can use it to show off the hardware without any comparison to it perhaps running and looking better on the PS4.

I'm just not happy they have to sacrifice the studio building a whole new ip. Is Microsoft going to get back into its old habits of just running with familiar ip's from its 1st party output? That strategy certainly isn't helping Nintendo on the Wii U.

Team death match will 100% be there, when I popped on gears 3 yesterday there were almost 7000 people playing Tim and the next highest mode was about 1k.

Yeah, because of that shitty game mode people stopped playing execution, never taking the time to get good at the game. Even when they are finally up for a challenge execution was already deserted. I also blame the social playlists, it should be all ranked imo. Trial by fire is what made Gears fun. Execution also was a bit bullshit in Gears 3, with the sawed off and retro lancer it also only had 3 rounds in the beginning.

Great move! Now all they need to do is to stay away from Judgment's horrible mechanics!

Xbox One is now a must for me!

From previous history, i.e Frankie going to 343i, i don't believe it helps anything.

Disagree. I loved Halo4 campaign, strongest since CE.

And no disrespect to Frankie im not sure how important his role was with the game design, but Rod played a major role in the previous games, helped with BioShock infinite that type of pedigree is a major coup. He'll be key to the games quality, its not outrageous to think this is in good (if not moreso) hands.

Awwww yeeeaaaahhhh

with 2014 lined up pretty nicely already, MS is now turning its attention to 2015. I have no doubt a lot of what the studio has been already working on will be applied to the new Gears game and MS will pump whatever resources needed to release by Nov '15.

Like I said many times before, MS will spare no expense (until they change course) to make sure the XB1 is, at worst, neck and neck with the PS4 in terms of market share....

Wonder if Microsoft also got the game assets/tech with that deal and if that would ease Black Tusk's development on the game. Maybe that would help them to churn out a game faster than they would have been able to if they had built one from ground up.

...also wondering if that means there will be no real visual change for the next game.

How do you know that? Maybe they just wanted to sit on it for while before going back to it. Seems like that is right thing to do for that franchise.
Gears was pretty much Cliffy B's baby and he no longer works for Epic games. If Epic Games wanted to keep the franchise or make future projects with the franchise they wouldn't have sold the rights to Microsoft.

Also Rod Fergusson who was the executive producer on the Gears of War project will be back, so at least the franchise is in good hands.

Deal included all games past and future, so I would assume they have all the code.

It's amazing how everyone is saying that we need new IP's and that gears is dead.

Is there a reason why we can't have both? I'm fairly sure MS have thought about this and maybe Black Tusk's original game just wasn't up to scratch.

People are assuming the worst because of Microsoft's track record. Look at what happened to Rare and their canceled projects over the years.

Black Tusk was created for this new IP and apparently it was looking well too.

I hope they fix the controls. So many times i would get stuck in cover when i meant to roll. The multiplayer felt so clunky and was already growing long in the tooth by gears 3. Something as simple as seperating the buttons for cover and not making it so context sensitive would really go a long way to making it a more playable series.

You never noticed the alternate control scheme where X was sprint/roll while A was to latch onto cover? It's what I used for years for that same reason lol

Gotta love the notion that MS just cancels games with no regard lol.

It's not like they acquired rights to an unlikely 3rd party IP. Xbox is known for Gears of War. Most people (that I know, anyway) thought the IP already belonged to Microsoft, so this really doesn't come off as surprising.

Congrats to Microsoft and good luck to Black Tusk. Gears of War has been quite shit for awhile, I think it was about time to pass the torch.

Gotta love the notion that MS just cancels games with no regard lol.

Truth be told though, their "regard" doesn't always (or even usually) make the most sense to gamers when they've canned several ideas that could've been really awesome, especially given the talent behind them.

That being said, I'm more hyped that we're getting next gen Gears over something that could've flopped. If that Black Tusk game was an FPS, then I think it's safe to say we have enough of those coming out this year that should take up a lot of our time, not to mention two big exclusive FPS's for Xbox this year with Titanfall/Halo.

Yeah that notion is just ridiculous.

Apparently something must have been going wrong in the development of that new IP....
We have no idea what went on there but we have to assume they had at least 12 months to come up with something worthwhile and failed.
Now they are working on an established IP, that's the business.

If Microsoft doesn't recognize a shit product and fails to pull the plug then we end up with Too Human or Ryse.
