Tearaway sold 14k and it's made me depressed. See why it killed my cynicism inside.

Should have said "it looks to me" you re right. But it really looks that way. Is it only new input or really new mechanics that change what you do in the game ?

It's not just hey look you touch here instead of there. That's not what makes it good. What makes it good is a genuinely fun and charming it is. The world is very well done and great to look at. The things you do like taking pictures and crafting items make the world and characters your own.

The controls feel good and the platforming picks up in the end and does give a slight challenge. I died more than I thought I would.

What really made it for me was the journey of it all. The game isn't about providing you with difficult situations and really hard levels to beat. It's about the experience of it all

If you only want to play games for a challenge then skip it. If you want to have fun like you did as a kid then you'll like it

I wouldn't be depressed I got it for 20 on sale dug it but don't know if I thought it was a 60 dollar gamer...its a tad repetitive and gimmicky but I still enjoyed it and thought it was fun.

But the real reason you should not be depressed is because its a Sony Game...meaning it will come to ps+ so millions of new players will play it for free...so people will play it eventually its not just going to get forgotten. If you were hoping it would sell big and get a sequel I really don't see it like that type of game..the story was pretty self contained.

Bought it today even though I have huge backlog not only on my vita, just to support first party exklusives like Tearaway.

You know, while I was playing Super Mario 3D World a couple of weeks ago, I was starting to rethink whether Tearaway was really my game of 2013. Mario was just SO good. But now that time has passed since I've beat them, Tearaway has left a bigger impression on me. The gameplay probably really was better on SM3DW, but Tearaway was a much more memorable experience. I loved SM3DW while playing it and then just forgot about it when finished.

Tearaway is just so unique, and beautiful, and it made me think about it long after I played.

It's controversial.. Fuck it.. I'm saying it..

THIS GAME BLOWS MARIO AWAY. Amazing. I smile as I play. When was the last time that happened? Every Vita owner should buy this. So full of charm.

Truthfact. I spent a good 10 minutes just playing catch with some squirrels. Game is beautiful.

anyone got a source on the 14,000 copies sold thing?

I'm sure it sold a lot more than that..

creamsugar said it in last month's NPD, it's legit. creamsugar is approved by the mods for such information.

Although this month it got a relatively nice bump for December, sold a lot more than 14,000 also according to him.

And none of that includes digital, so I'm guessing it's at like 60,000 or something like that now.

That's a real turnaround if you ask me. Considering how small the team is and the almost non-existent marketing campaign, those aren't bad numbers for the first month-ish of sales. Faith in industry redeemed?

As of December NPD Tearaway was at ~50k retail.

Now I feel like the odd man out for not customizing my Atoi very much. I thought she was perfect the way she was! So I ended up just sticking random pieces of flair on her.

I think the latest NPD leaked numbers have Tearaway closer to 60k? So at least the holidays helped.

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
I'm playing through the game now... it's loaded with charm, I just wish some of the 3d platforming antics weren't flawed (bad camera and some issues with getting trapped on geometry and such), and I wish there was at least some penalty for dying. But this game has me hooked, and I love how they made the most of the whole papercraft theme with the level designs...

Definitely feeling this more than the LBP series.

In some pleasant news related to the thread title, Tearaway has been #1 on the UK Vita charts for 9 of the last 11 weeks (since it launched, basically). The other two weeks, it was #2.

Sure, we're probably not dealing with huge numbers, but the game is hopefully doing much better than it originally seemed. The UK charts don't include digital sales, either.

Wow that is impressive then, I wonder if the budles that Zavvi sent out counted towards the sales!

Eh, it's kinda impressive. We're not dealing with big numbers sadly. It's still nice to see though.

Bundles do count, and you can see LBP riding high on the chart for the same reason.

Hahah I didn't change my Iota much since I felf that he looked quite charming and his innocent look fit quite well with the story, but some stuff here is great.

It's making me go back to the game just to change him up good.

The only reason I haven't bought this yet is because I know it is almost guaranteed to be a PS+ game sooner or later. I'm fed up with buying games (especially on the vita) only for it to be realsed on PS+ for free a few months later.

so top game on vita chart probably selling 5 games.. So 9 x 5 = 45.. WOW.. Thats record breaking.. :p

But honestly i dont think top position in vita chart is going to be more than couple of hundred..

Did my bit and bought it, and it is absolutely charming. Gorgeous game. Hope it picks up its sales over time. Deserves it completely.

DIGITAL BABY!

I've said it before but I'm sure it sold MILLIONS yes MILLIONS digitally. I myself bought 19 digital copies just to make sure.

I'm also waiting for it on PS+, i tried the demo and although it looked beautiful, gameplay wise i personally found it boring and a chore to finish the demo....so i don't want to buy it at all.

Surely I already have by subscribing to PS+... ;-)

I know what you're saying but I bought: Unit13, Uncharted, Little Kings Story, Gravity Daze, Soul Sacrifice not to mention the PS3 games.....I just can't do it anymore.

Wow it's certainly a shame you are feeling that way, because if everyone just sat around waiting for PS+ then there would just be no games as there would be no people buying them to support the dev, this wasn't even a highly priced game, it was £20 here in the UK. I could understand someone not wanting to fork out the £45 they were asking for COD when it came out, but something at a £20 price point that has gotten great reviews, I don't think I would wait for that.

The only information about Tearaway sales I've found is this (I can't link to the source as it seems it's banned from GAF, just google 'Tearaway sales'):

North America: 0.09m - 32.1%
+ Europe: 0.13m - 46.2%
+ Rest of the World: 0.06m - 21.7%
-----------------------
= Global 0.27m (271,884 units)

And it's nowhere near to what the OP says… Am I missing something?

Teraway and the Puppeteer are probably two of the most charming but underrated games this year :(

You really shouldn't pull the "underrated" card. They're not underrated. They were both very well reviewed and liked by reviewers and... for what it's worth, they both have a metacritic score of 80 or higher.

Tearaway was not underrated, it sold poorly. Puppeteer is not underrated, it sold poorly. Gravity Rush was not underrated, it sold poorly. Okami was not underrated, it sold poorly.

We have proper adjectives to describe what happened to those beloved titles' sales, but "underrated" is not the one.

So, I guess that's it. Any reliable source for this kind of information? 14k seems pretty unrealistic to me, but who knows…
14k was a leaked number from the first month of sales in the US.

We don't know the current global LTD, nor do we have any way of knowing.

Tearaway was incredible. By far the most unique and creative game I've played this gen or last. It's a shame the sales have been so poor, as it's the best thing I've seen MM do.

Understand this feeling completely, however can't resist on must purchase titles. PS+ is fantastic imo though it's 'rental' system leads to me buying a fair amount.
Want a permanent hard copy to remove any possible restrictions down the line, allows for lending & peace of mind owning retail.

Bought this title for it's uniquness and likelihood to be fun and creative. Hope to hear an update on improved sales as more quirky titles the better.

I'm currently playing it and it's a great relaxing game. It's story is simple and fun. The best part is it's the only game I've played that uses the gimmicky Vita stuff (touchscreens, cameras).

My biggest problem is the game is really simple. I've only really been playing at work because if I was at home, I'd probably beat it in a sitting. With a Platinum.
