PAL Charts - Week 19, 2015

Puzzle and Dragon success not translating to the West, disappointing for Nintendo. Nice to see a racer do well. Feels like the genre has been shrinking a little.

I don't think it makes sense to bundle Bloodborne over a Batman or Other heavy hitter.

AFAIK none of the Japanese mobile heavy hitters did well in the West. The AppStore top charts for Japan and the US as so different they look like they belong to different platforms entirely.

Not at all, there was no 10% off deal on PS4. I ain't saying it sold more by any means. But I think the gap is alot slimmer than PAL charts suggest.
Also with EA Access you are downloading the whole game, so it is already on the system.

I really think it's time for MS/Sony to start releasing digital sales data.

And the gap could be also be wider... And basis the cycle continues. Without data there's is little reason to talk about DD sales until like you said we have data to talk use.

b... but... but EA Access... and digital sales...

So, I was looking for the new BIU sales awards because they should come out around this time of the month, and can't access the website at all. Is it down or something?

I am assuming this is a mistake and Sony don't publish the 360 version of Minecraft in Italy.

I think whoever enters the data isn't used to typing Microsoft. Actually as it's publisher (or at least it looks like its publisher) technically isn't the PS3 version really Microsoft too?

"Updated hourly."

As for your question, £279 is a good price and people could be buying one for Witcher 3 since the PS4 version of that is also high which may have lead to a spike in sales.

Yeah! But white PS4 goes up also. And Xbone is there.

Well that's the reason bethesda didn't want to release a boxed xb1 version.

Or self-fulfilling prophecy? Well, perhaps we will get a share ratio of digital and physical combined to see if the advantage of PS4 retail translates into digital aswell.

Well that's the reason bethesda didn't want to release a boxed xb1 version.

The harsh split certainly wasn't like that for the original game, nor many other games. I think the reality is that the late announcement meant many had already decided to buy digital, or weren't aware of the retail version. And availability was likely lower as many stores will have already made stocking decisions earlier on before XBO version was announced. Just my hunch.

I just wish the charts included digital purchases. It would make things so much more interesting - and better reflect reality. I remember when this was put together recently for the UK and showed Cities Skylines at the top spot, and Ori in the Top 10. Tells us so much more about the market than just retail boxes shifted through retail stores.

Wow....

Although this is somewhat expected, they announced the physical release of the X1 version like a week before it came out and some retailers, so far as I could tell, didn't seem to have the X1 version alongside the PS4.

Still, that's pretty a huge disparity in sales. Won't make for happy reading at all over at MS HQ and no doubt other developers/publishers are taking note too. This just adds more weight to the idea that some games should forego a physical release on X1 altogether as the cost simply might not be worth it...

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood split isn't really surprising, Xbox owners have MCC & soon Halo 5. Seemed obvious people would skip it, still seems like it has done decently anyways.

Blog post up but no charts yet

‘Project Cars’ (-64%) holds on to No1 for a second week to become the first Bandai Namco title to do so since ‘Ridge Racer Type 4’ over 16 years ago.

Stand-alone expansion ‘Wolfenstein: The Old Blood’ from Bethesda debuts at No2 on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Despite having been launched digitally on May 5th, the boxed versions debut strongly in the chart, especially the PS4 version which takes a 67% share compared to Xbox One’s 27%. ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (-25%) makes way, dropping one place to No3, however this is not going to trouble Take 2/Rockstar’s record breaker as it has now passed 5 million sales in the UK. ‘Mortal Kombat X’ (-28%) also slips one place, down to No4, ahead of a re-entry for Square-Enix’s ‘Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster’ which rebounds back into the chart at No5 thanks to the launch of a PS4 version. Big hitters ‘FIFA 15’ (-24%) and ‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ (-16%) both look comfortable in the Top 10 at No’s 6 and 7 respectively.
More previous No1s occupy the final 3 Top 10 places with ‘Dying Light’ (-33%) down 3 places to No8, ‘Destiny’ (+0%) up one place to No9 and ‘Battlefield Hardline’ (-34%) down 3 places to No10. Bandai Namco could well be celebrating three 3 weeks at No1 next week as ‘Project Cars’ goes up against another of their own titles, ‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’.

Grand Theft Auto V has crossed 5 million units in the UK. Bear in mind that this figure is not extrapolated to 100% of the market that's why it's lower than what we have in our estimates.

2013 - 3,670,234 (100%) / 3,303,211 (90%)
2014 - 1,341,472 (100%) / 1,274,398 (95%)
2015 - 456,238 (100%) / 433,426 (95%)

Total - 5,467,944 (100%) / 5,011,035 (90% and 95%)

Any reason for that Halo bump?

Also how I was expecting FFX/X-2 to place though thinking it might be above Wolfenstein (but guess Wolfensteins £13 price helped it in sales).

Bundle with PCars is £300 or £280 for just the MCC bundle.

Also how I was expecting FFX/X-2 to place though thinking it might be above Wolfenstein (but guess Wolfensteins £13 price helped it in sales).

By value, FFX is also #3, but behind PCars XB1 instead of Wolfenstien PS4. Honestly expected it to do worse considering how bad some recent remasters have done and the fact it's only recently been out on PS3.
