Glad they aren't spoling the story or set pieces, nothing too important outside of traditional combat and the scenery.

Keep it this way ND!

Hands On: Uncharted 4 Is Bigger and Better Than Ever Before on PS4

Madagascar may be best known for its goofball cast of personified zoo animals, but some even bigger idiots are on their way to the enormous African island. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will find protagonist Nathan Drake and his familial allies Victor 'Goddamn' Sullivan and Sam Drake exploring the outback in search of missing pirate Henry Avery's historical score – and we recently got to ride shotgun with the trio as we road tripped our way through 30 minutes or so of Naughty Dog's hotly anticipated PlayStation 4 exclusive.

From Ars Technica:

Once Drake got into the car, Naughty Dog unfurled its new favorite buzz phrase: "wide linear." Uncharted 4 doesn't have any Grand Theft Auto-level aspirations in terms of sandboxes or optional mission paths, but its creators want players to feel like their path through this guided, cinematic experience has a mix of path choices and required visual and storytelling beats.

One way they're getting this right is by putting players into more enormous environments, which are met with faster, more capable vehicles. Forget climbing along the edges of a mountain's cliff. It's time to scale the entire mountain in a muck-chewing Jeep. The Madagascar mission's opening mountain felt both enormous and approachable thanks to smooth-yet-burly driving mechanics. It was easy to pull turns but also fun to drift in mud pools and rev the vehicle up steep cliffs.

This lengthy, enjoyable drive also provided an organic opportunity for the Drake brothers to rap about pirates. When Nathan hopped out of the driver's seat to run on foot toward hidden goodies, the car's remaining passengers exchanged colorful banter. And while Uncharted has always been a looker of a series, the bump from PS3 to PS4 is unmistakable. View distances are staggering, and the mountain environment I explored offered a good mix of reflection and particle effects in the mud. In-game character faces and animations certainly pale compared to this month's beautiful Xbox exclusive, Quantum Break, but Uncharted fans may prefer the polygonal budget being spent on those incredible views anyway.

From the Polygon write up:

Uncharted 4 also offers some new tools to help you sneak past Nate's foes. You can mark targets as in a Battlefield game by holding L2 and pressing the left stick. And when you're hidden, each enemy has a stealth indicator above their head à la Assassin's Creed. The sand-colored icon slowly fills up as they train their eyes on you; it turns yellow if they think they've seen something, at which point they'll head over to investigate; and it turns orange once they've definitively spotted you. (You're free to turn off these features if you want, and they're disabled by default on the hardest difficulty, Crushing.)

It's all good, brothers!

I haven't read anything yet I just wanted to say I love the written previews so much more than video. Some of us don't want to see new footage, someone of us want to be able to simply skim through an article to be able to skip something we don't want to read.

Shame so many of these are video previews. Ok time to read the few written ones.

X-post from other thread:

Looks absolutely stunning. Gameplay looks tight outside of the obvious:
-Dudes knowing the exact location of Nate after firing a single round. I can understand general area, but not exact location unless they saw him before entering cover.
-Marking, which should hopefully have a toggle to turn off in options.

Otherwise, super excited for May...it's still so damn far away...

Drake is the new Spiderman.

Those guys must be blind. Character faces in UC4 look amazingly real considering they were not scanned from real faces.

Do they say from how early into the game the preview is? Wondering how much I want spoil myself looking at the videos.

I really like the artstyle they've pushed towards. It's almost like a well drawn animated Disney movie. Bright blues, brightly lit, etc.

It's not a realistic look, but it's so uniform it looks great.
