Batman: Arkham Knight On PC Is Not Very Good [UP: WB suspends future sales until fix]

Who is responsible for this mess of a port?

have you tried not maxing it out? I mean, I know, you've got the pimpest shit in terms of video cards right now and you shouldn't have to turn anything down from 11. It's a travesty. But have you tried turning off the gameworks shit?

Seriously turn off gameworks. Or at least the fog. The fog is a frame killer.

Someone in the PC performance thread was running it at 720x480 or something at the lowest settings and still getting stutters.

Is my computer resistant to this plague or something?

I have a 4670k@4.7ghz, 970 medium OC GPU Clock @ +165, Memory Clock at +354. I have the reference model. My game hardly ever drops below 50fps outside of the really intense parts with the Bat Mobile.

No stutters, textures etc all fine. Game looks great.

I believe it. The game has issues. But it seems like a lot of people run into one of those issues, that being that gameworks is fucking busted, and then throw their hands up in disgust. I know I did. Then I turned off gameworks. If it doesn't work, or if they already have it off, great. But if it can get their game to work for them? Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

It might be that you never turned on gameworks. It is off by default, after all.

I haven't even been able to play this since it's reinstalled twice- once after I tried verifying the cache, but one again after simply pausing and resuming the download. I had 20gb downloaded, got home from work and rebooted to find it completely starting over again.

Which is fine, because this game is going to tear the shit out of my GTX 660 anyway. This port seems bad enough that I don't think a rushed patch in the first week could possibly fix it. It would either take a month or two of sustained updates or just entirely fucking starting over with a better developer.

No they are certainly on, I can see all the volumetric fog etc.

The only thing I don't think that's working is the wet textures on my character.

Do you have AO and wet shaders?

Scrooged

Totally wronger about Nintendo's business decisions.
FYI, the drivers for the GTX 970 limit the vram utilization to 3.5GB unless the game absolutely needs it to store the current frame. I have a 970 and the slowdowns are no where near as bad as that video. Not even close. The game has serious streaming issues and is causing stutters for just about every card out there. The 970 isn't at fault here.

Seriously turn off gameworks. Or at least the fog. The fog is a frame killer. I went through the same shit. In fact, I'm the guy quoted in OP whose game crashed when I tried to EVEN THE ODDS. And it runs pretty much fine without gameworks on.

I turned off all Nvidia stuff yesterday but am still getting massive drops

You may not agree with me on this but in my opinion, WB should make this up by:

a) fixing the PC version game ASAP ( I mean real fix, not some useless update)

b) offering the Season Pass to us gamers for a discount (or better yet, free).

They better give existing season pass owners something extra if they decide to go this path. But with the non-apology replies they are spewing out I doubt this will be the case.

Lucky you! I'm jealous.

Unlucky you. I got nothin, sorry. :\

Gameworks are the least of this game's problems.

The were the greatest of its problems for me. With them on, basically any time the batmobile shows up, my video drivers kick the bucket. I just thought my issue may have been the same as theirs, in light of the similarities. For what it's worth, I'm running the game with the latest nvidia drivers on windows 10.

Lucky you! I'm jealous.

I know you're serious, but I also want to say sorry, not sure why I even posted about my game running like I did. It's was a dick move. I just wanted to provide my settings and setup and let people know it seems to be working with that setup. I didn't mean to come off as being patronizing. However, seeing as I have no AO, and limited Wet Shaders I would still say it's an issue. Hopefully they fix it soon.

This is insane.

I find it real fucking hard to believe that they manage to get it both looking and running better on PC.

Dear Batman: Arkham Knight PC owners,

We are aware that there are performance issues for some users playing Batman: Arkham Knight on PC. WB Games is working diligently with our development teams, NVIDIA and AMD, to identify and fix the issues as quickly as possible.

Please know that we value input from those who are playing the game and we are continuously monitoring all threads posted in the Official Batman: Arkham Knight Community and Steam forums, as well as any issues logged with our Customer Support. If you are experiencing any issues with the game, please be sure to report it to support.wbgames.com.

In the meantime, we wanted to provide recommended, in-game graphical settings for those with minimum and recommend specs hardware. We will provide recommended settings for the Ultra specs as soon as we are able to conduct more tests. At the bottom of this post, you can find additional information that may help alleviate some of the most frequent issues that some players are experiencing. Also, for reference, we have included a list of the minimum, recommended, and ultra hardware requirements.

If you purchased your copy of the game through Steam and are not satisfied with your experience, you can request a refund at help.steampowered.com (Steam refund policies can be found here: http://store.steampowered.com/steam_refunds).

Thank you for your patience as we work on resolving these issues and please be sure to check back for updates.

Minimum Hardware Specs
(or equivalent)
Resolution: 1280x720
V-Sync: Off
Anti-Aliasing: Off
Texture Resolution: Low
Shadow Quality: Low
Level of Detail: Low
Interactive Smoke/Fog: Off
Interactive Paper Debris: Off
Enhanced Rain: Off
Enhanced Light Shafts: Off

Expected: 30fps (capped)

It is incredibly important that users with a min spec video card with 2 GB of dedicated VRAM (or 3 GB on AMD) to keep the Texture Resolution set to Low. Increasing this to Normal will cause significant performance issues.

By default, the game may set the user’s monitor to the maximum output offered. Users should reset to 720p on min spec hardware.

With these settings on Min Spec AMD GPU’s, users can expect some minor texture pops, occasional loading symbols during fast-paced scenarios, and some hitches & stuttering when gliding or driving the Batmobile.

Recommended Hardware Specs
(or equivalent)
Resolution: 1920x1080
V-Sync: On
Anti-Aliasing: On
Texture Resolution: Normal
Shadow Quality: Normal
Level of Detail: Normal
Interactive Smoke/Fog: Off
Interactive Paper Debris: Off
Enhanced Rain: Off
Enhanced Light Shafts: Off

Expected: 30fps (capped)

The Recommended Spec is intended to deliver an experience on par with the current generation of gaming platforms.

For an optimal experience, users with recommended spec hardware should not set their resolution higher than 1080p.

By default, the game may set Shadow Quality and Level of Detail to High on Recommended Spec hardware. Users should revert these to Normal.

With these settings on Rec Spec AMD GPUs, users can expect some minor texture pops, occasional loading symbols during fast-paced scenarios, and some hitches & stuttering when gliding or driving the Batmobile. To help alleviate this, AMD users using Rec Spec GPU’s should turn Texture Resolution, Shadow Quality, and Level of Detail to Low. We continue to work closely with AMD to resolve these issues as soon as possible; make sure you have the most current drivers and check back here for updates on when the next driver version is available.

Additional Recommendations
We do not recommend that users change anything in the game’s .ini files as this will potentially negatively impact performance, including frame rate, and stability.

At this time we do not recommend using NVIDIA’s GeForce Experience or AMD’s Gaming Evolved Optimization tools.

We’re currently working on improving streaming performance from mechanical hard drives (HDD). Addressing this is one of our top short-term priorities.

For users that have an SSD available, we’ve noted increased streaming performance when the game is installed to that type of drive.

Once again, we’d like to stress the importance of having the latest drivers from your graphics card manufacturer. Staying up to date could potentially alleviate many performance issues, and will improve your game experience.
- NVIDIA GeForce users should use GeForce GameReady WHQL Driver version 353.30
- AMD users should use Catalyst 15.6 beta driver

Crossfire on AMD is currently not supported. This is to be addressed in a future driver update from AMD.

Eyefinity (multi-monitor) on AMD is currently not fully supported. This is to be addressed in a future driver update from AMD.

When running Nvidia SLI, using the NVIDIA Control Panel to set one card as a dedicated PhysX card may improve performance.

Players should not disable and/or edit the size of their page file. Windows manages this automatically, and leaving this at the default settings will provide an optimal experience when playing Arkham Knight. We strongly recommend that users avoid making edits to this.

Holy shit. This is their advice and exceptations for people at recommended specs, not low? That's absurd.

And apparently yes, they did intentionally ship the game with a 30 FPS cap.

So, they are saying no one should be trying to play this at 60 FPS, since it requires the .ini file edit.

Why didn't they use a small team at Nixxes then? They do good work, while they have quite a few AAA ports they're developing right now they still could have done it.

They are too busy porting all AAA titles from Square Enix such as Rise of the Tomb Raider and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided etc.

False advertising. Besides shipping a completely broken game, they have been showing 60FPS video of features that do not exist. And they are still showing it instead of putting up a neon sign saying SORRY, THE MEDIA WE SHOWED BEFORE IS NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF WHAT THE GAME ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE OR PLAYS LIKE. At this point WBG has to give a cash refund to anyone with a proof of purchase, or they are scumbags, plain and simple.

Damn bullshit!

PC has such an advantage over the consoles horsepower wise yet they pull this shit.

Was gonna buy a 980ti, gonna wait it out and see if they fix the PC version and all effects.

If not, PS4 version it is.

BTW who did the PC version of the other Batman games in the past? They all ran great.

Even the benchmark isn't representative and shows much better performance then the actual game gives, to try and fool people into thinking it's running better then it is.

This shit is a joke. If you have the capability, get a refund. Don't buy any future WB games either. My interest in Mad Max has gone to 0.

damn, I forgot the benchmark is 60fps

like, what's even the reasoning there if they're admitting the cap is on purpose and not a weird mistake

lolololololol

This is the same team that worked on Origins, the previous ones were Rocksteady themselves AFAIK.

People are seriously saying that it's the 970's VRAM that's to blame in a thread where the technologically inferior PS4 version has been shown to be superior in terms of both graphics and performance?

I never turned on the Nvidia settings or tried getting it to 60fps, still runs like hot garbage on a 970.

This is kinda sad, wouldn't wish to be in the shoes of whoever is in charge of the pc dept.

To release the statement saying that the 30fps is intended, that the laggy streaming of textures is to be expected, and release a settings guide when the 10-12 settings only have 2 options is ridiculously and sadly hilarious.

With no mention of the settings available on console that are absent on pc port

Can't trust anyone with ports these days.... not even in-house lol.....

Anyway unfortunate for PC players. Hopefully there is quick turnaround ala USFIV on PS4.

Saw mine reach 3.9GB, It absolutely isn't. This game is just ridiculously memory hungry from likely memory leaks. On my last check it wanted almost a 12GB total memory commitment with my 8GB of RAM and a 8GB page file. If I didn't have my PF and swap on my SSD it'd probably been a stuttering hell.
