like 15 pages of tentacle porn is hardly praise worthy especially since the victim is not the focus and essentially has their character wiped afterwards. Everything else about the Eclipse is absolutely fantastic , and I don't want to give the impression that I dislike Berserk or anything. I love Berserk, but it does has some poor writing instances and wasted potential
Casca is completely wasted in the series.

If that's all you got out of it then I think you missed a whole hell of a lot as to what that event meant in terms of the character relationships that had been built up between Guts, Casca and Griffith and what it also meant for the story going down the line. Rape is terrible and that was the whole point. Berserk uses things like Rape, outside of the trolls, to signify how a terrible event or moment is only getting worse. Its a series with wall to wall graphic depictions of gore, violence and human suffering. What Femto does to Casca is basically to clue the desensitized by everything else that,"Oh shit, things are getting REALLY bad" and as gross as it is to say, is a big part of his character building. He has thrown away his humanity, had it burned out of his soul and what best way to prove it while also getting back at the guy who almost ruined your dream.

Edit: I will also say the series doesn't try to be tasteful with it either and that is often times on purpose especially when relating to someone like Wyald.

Only thing I can think of off the top of my head is the Warhammer 40k fluff. Depending on what you read that shit is grim, and even that is a stretch. It has fantasy elements in it but it is mostly a sci-fi type setting. Read up on the Horus Heresy, if you are interested.

Not to de-rail the conversation, but I looked up the Horus series and it doesn't seem that dark. It also appears to be 40 books long. Would it be good for somebody who knows extremely little about WH4K?

WH40K is the definition of grim dark. Its basically the shittiest universes you could live in unless you're one of those lucky souls porn on a paradise planet that isn't anywhere near the usual kill everything groups.

In what ways? I've played a few WH40k games and it seemed like pretty typical space combat stuff.

WH40K has been around for decades. Most "Space Marines" and such are based on the style set up by 40K, so if it seems typical its because most people were inspired in some way by them.

As to the grim darkness, this is a universe where humanity has millions of planets under their control but things are a hair's length from falling apart and into... well chaos. You have chaos demon gods and their armies of demons, corrupted aliens, and so forth who are constantly trying to devour the souls of humanity who worship a dead god emperor sealed into a tomb. You have extra galactic locusts stripping planets clean of all organic resources, robot zombies rising from their tomb worlds to obliterate all life, green skinned orcs who only love to fight and flock to battles.

As I said it sucks for most people and the Imperial Guards solution to most things is just throw more bodies at your enemies. Not too mention humanity basically uses dead bodies to make lobotomized cyborgs to take care of all their needs. Its a pretty fucked universe.

I wonder when these ads will start using salacious imagery to depict the scene in which Guts was raped. I mean, fair is fair right?

Also, some nice spreads of all the stuff Griffith had to do to get money for the Hawks.

Maybe there will be a level where you sell your slender body to some lecherous men. It all seems totally appropriate for advertisements of a hack n slash game.

Mmm, sounds a bit too "80's metal album" for me, but I did go ahead and order the first Horus book so I'll give it a go.

I tried Berserk from the beginning a while ago and wasn't a fan of the art. Is it really worth soldiering through when I already know about
Griffith's treachery and all of the awfulness that came with it
?

Damn,
I was hoping she'd go back to normal. I already find her simpleton status irritating and if that's how she stays, they might as well kill her off.

Edit: More on-topic, I actually think musuo makes perfect sense for a Berserk game. I'll probably buy the PC version if it actually uses PS4 assets instead of PS3 the way One Piece Pirate Warriors does.

You aren't wrong, it is basically as Metal as it can get. That said the Horus Heresy stuff is a good starting point as its basically WH 30K and sets up the events that basically define the 40K universe and cover the legendary events like the the defense of Earth from the chaos onslaught and the battles that lead to the God Emperor's interment on the Golden Thrown.

The art improves drastically after the first couple volumes and at this point Miura is probably one of the most skilled mangaka in the business. As to the whether you should try it again I'd say yes but I'm a pretty huge fan and have been following the series for over a decade. Its inspired countless other properties from Final Fantasy VII to the Soulsborne games. Its dark, its fucked, but there isn't much else out there like it or as good as it is.

That said Casca might finally have some sort of resolution coming up... though who know's if its one Guts will like.

This thread made me check out the Berserk manga on a whim. Started just after the Griffith/Casca thing because I figure the game would fill that gap or I could watch the OVAs.

Was up until 2am reading. Absolutely brutal in a wonderful, disturbing way.

Oh dude you really did yourself a disservice here.

That sort of sucks, but its always possible that there may be human dismemberment in the western release.

Its happened before.

I hope so. It'd really neuter the game for me swinging that sword around and not cleaving people in half.

Hopefully one day if we get a Berserk 2 we can play as Neo Band of the Hawk members. A lot of them would make for killer move sets. Grunbeld and Rakshas please!

Are those single volumes? Jeebus that's expensive. Don't you guys have Berserk Max volumes in the US? I got all 18 Berserk Max volumes (which are double volumes, so Vol 1-36 really) new for 160€. Shipping est. this thursday, really excited o_O
I'm guessing you're German? I had a search for Berserk Max but could only find German copies :( I've been buying individual tankobans, and it's been quite challenging finding certain volumes..

When they say "up to the black warrior" what are they supposed to mean exactly? What's the latest detail referenced in the screenshots? Grunbeld fight?

The website released some new info on several characters in the game, all rather obviously Band of the Falcon members namely Guts, Griffith, Judeau and Casca in her armor kicking ass. Judeau is using his throw knives and they also show Guts using everything from his cannon arm, repeating crossbow, bombs and of course some throwing knives.

Just noticed the boob armor. I heard they apparently had that in the anime as well which is a shame since it's not like that in the manga.

The first (well, technically second) manga arc (Golden Age) is brilliant, even though it's a little over-exposed at this point. Definitely missing out on one of the best, if not the best, parts of the manga without reading it

If this is by the same team behind the recent Attack On Titan game(looks like it is), don't just send it off as another Warriors game. I imported the AoT game and barely recognized it as DW game. Sure some of the core concepts are the same: waves of enemies, help teammates in danger, etc., but it was very faithful to the anime and added a bunch of interesting anime-related mechanics such as the swinging, gas and sword durability, and the option of buying different horses.

Berserk and DW sounds like a good fit to me.

I used to be a big Warriors hater, but I've come around. They are fun to play if you are just looking for a low-stress way to let off steam. They definitely aren't all created equal. Some are a lot better than others, it comes down to subtle combat mechanics and combat flow. A small change can make a big difference in how fun they are. Some have much better technical performance, too. The licensed games have the additional appeal of fan service, which goes a long way.

They are undeniably repetitive and low-budget. I think the key to enjoying them is to have something else to play as well. You don't want it to be your only game, you want to keep sessions short and infrequent or you'll get bored. But they can be great fun, especially with a friend.

Maybe some kind of release info would be nice, huh Tecmo-Koei West?

I don't need a release date, just tell me if I have to import the physical vita.
