Cinderella Girls |OT| A perfect fit for anime

Cinderella Girls 01
As an (almost) complete outsider to the franchise, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed things so far. It's not coming off as a "for the fans" kind of thing; characters are getting reasonable development and are being reasonably treated by the camera. That alone, for better or worse, puts it above most anime I've seen in recent times, not that I've watched much.

Highlights for me are The Producer's introduction (if only because I wasn't expecting a goddamn horror show >.>) and the flower shop scene. In the case of the latter, I thought hiding Rin's face until the end of the scene while keeping Uzuki's face in almost every shot made the transition of focus from Uzuki in the first half to Rin in the second almost seamless. Well-directed episode, I'd say.

Kuzuki sensei, you're drunk. Go back to F/SN!
On a serious note, this is actually a competent show and better first episode than the 1st Im@s, baring that one frame 'forget to color the dress, now one of the girl looks naked' in opening.
Rin best girl confirmed!

Don't care much for Uzuki, doesn't carry the same amount of presence that Haruka did from the original iM@S. Rin, however, already best girl candidate.

is this something good to watch as a first anime?
Well we only have the first episode to go off, but if it is anything like the show it is a spinoff of, The iDOLM@STER, then I'd say it'll be an enjoyable inoffensive show. But honestly, for a first anime you're better off watching something that is already completed. So I could recommend The iDOLM@STER, but that depends on whether you'd enjoy a show about a group of idols progressing in an idealistic music industry. Usually, for a first show, people are recommended something like Cowboy Bebop because it's a bit closer to the style of show you'll likely be used to.

Had a see if I could spot this:
Ha ha ha! Oh wow.

At least now we know what Kirei does in his spare time. I guess being a Producer for an idol unit is a nice break from hanging around in a run-down church and having annoying conversations with Gilgamesh about how awesome Gilgamesh is.

Enjoyed the second episode as well. The other girls seem pretty cool.
Can't wait to see what happens with the preparation for the concert.

Don't even know what girl I like best yet, Anya looks cute though.

weird... just noticed that all 3 main characters pretty much have really similar hair color. Don't see that often in anime.

Am I crazy or is the OP quite similar in terms of scenes as idolmaster 2011 OP?

Song isn't as good as Ready though.

So many characters... does the japanese market have room for so many different series of 'anime idols'?

Argh can't watch this weeks episode until probably Tuesday because I'm at some stupid Lantis concert in Vegas. How on earth am I going to cope with such backward priorities?

Bow to your true queen!

Another enjoyable episode. Mio has the energy needed to be a passion type idol and will no doubt become a valuable asset to the group as a morale booster. Anastasia and Ranko stand out from the majority of the cast for their beauty and style respectively, the latter getting special treatment with their introduction. The Kirari/Anzu combo is absolutely adorable, I really hope they get more screen time together in the future. Having Riina in the project is cool, but leaving her friend Natsuki out is just garbage.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

This show would've been something else if they focused on the top tier idols. My god.

Rankings:

1. Mio
2. Anastasia
3. Kirara/Anzu combo
4. Rika

Just when I thought I was out of the Idol game, it pulls me back in. Best girls are Anya, Rin, Mio and the rocker one. It is known.

Bunch of names.
Producer moe~
Rin still best girl
2nd is Anzu. Living off royalties? Those who work lose? She's something special alrigh

Cool thanks guys. Yeah I started the other Idolmaster awhile back but never got around to finish it. I'll give this a shot!

You'd think Shimamura has brain problems.

Then you're introduced to the rest of the cast. :V

Looks like this is going to be Idolm@ster all over again - struggling to watch most of it just because I enjoy like one or two characters.

Got around to watching ep. 2. Rin and Mio are the best as of right now. Also, the OP for this ep was pretty nice.

I also got Cinderella Girls on my ipad, but I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing =w=

Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls 2

I thought we'd avoided introduce-a-million-characters hell but I guess it was just delayed one episode? At least it's over now, right?

Also, how the heck does an idol company afford a swank office complex like this? When the idol bubble bursts this place is going to become a creepy ghost town that's explored and videotaped by weird otaku.

Isn't 961 Production also rather well off as idol company. 765 seems to be the poor odd one out.

Or you could just compare it to bands from the rest of the world. With groups like One Direction technically the UK is still producing "idol" groups and we've been doing so for decades. Something like AKB0048 (show promoting a real group) could be compared to S Club 7's Miami 7, the Monkees TV series, the multiple films with The Beatles. Even fictitious groups are old hat.

What's different seems to be their consumer culture so they can basically merchandise anything and for them idols seem to be the go to celeb whereas we have more general celebs from all walks of life (including people whose claim to fame is just appearing on a The X Voice Popstars Idol).

As for the idol fans, we can't ignore all the odd stuff Justin Beiber and his fanbase have done over the years. Honestly, I think some of our thoughts on idol culture is due to Japan's reputation for wacky news, but in some ways, we're just the same.

ah, so everything is pretty much just the same scummy entertainment industry no matter the country.

Yes. Wake Up Girls got closest to trying to depict the scummy side of things but fell of the wayside a bit by the end of it.

Finally got around to watching the second episode last night.

It's kind of interesting just how, after establishing itself as being very much it's own thing in the first episode, referential to the original iM@S anime this episode was in places. I mean, the OP seems to have gone to great lengths to follow the form of the first OP to aniM@S, and then there's the fact that the second half of this episode is basically the entire second episode of aniM@S compressed into six minutes.

I'm not entirely sure what to make of that!

The amount of material we're missing out on because these two among many other top tiers aren't part of the main cast makes my heart ache

Excellent episode. I was so sure
Mio would been the morale booster of the team so its certainly surprising to see Rin of all people being the one to lift the groups' spirits up before they went on stage. As stated with the first episode, they're making quite the effort in making this installment more serious and genuine than its predecessor. And I am absolutely pleased with that.

This show man. So fucking good.

hmmm... feels like this eps should have been a midseason finale thing... wonder what the rest of the show is gonna be about, or will it be depressingly realistic like wakeup girls.

Budget where did you go

The budget didn't go anywhere, really. The animation director for this episode was Kouno Megumi, who animated many of the memorable cuts of concert animation in that other iM@S cartoon they made a few years ago. I gather she's one of those animators who has a real focus on movement in animation, hence why she keeps getting enlisted to do concerts. This probably also means that she was either too busy with her own cuts for the episode to be that concerned about correcting things which didn't look radically off-model (and folks in the know seem to think the production schedule on CG is rough), else she was more focused on correcting the movements in her key animators work and didn't so much mind the loose adherence to character sheets.

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle, but the trade-off for the occasionally slightly wonky looking characters is that we get things like that concert scene, or that greeting between Mika and Akane with the whole brofist thing, which has a really terrific sense of contact and weight in its movement, that you wouldn't necessarily get if animators were getting too fastidious about about getting every character in every frame looking exactly correct.

Limited TV animation is all about trade-offs, basically. The rough character art bugged me at times as well, but watching the episode through three or four times, I generally think it was probably worth it. T-O-K-TOKIMEKI!

I just thought they were trying to mimic a fish eyes lens look for those two opening shots. A bit of an odd choice but seeing as the wide eyed face look applied to both characters it came off as purposefully rather than the same mistake done twice in a row.

Pretty much what I thought.

Episode 3 was pretty good! The performance at the end was nice. Anya is so cute...that broken Japanese with some Russian in between! The animation definitely took a nosedive in certain scenes but I suppose that was to make the animation in the performance look better.

P-San I see you smilin!
