Are you all seriously upset that there are people on NeoGAF with dissenting opinions from your own? People are allowed to express themselves when they don't like something and there is no reason to dump on them for it.

This is a forum for crying out loud, people discussing their differing opinions is its primary purpose.

In the same way you can't help but to respond to our opinions of people with dissenting opinions.

Yes, it's a forum. You have to deal with it both ways. I didn't say people can't express their opinion, but I'll say whatever the hell I want to say in response.

Pretty funny that we had a few similar looking games in the conference, but yeah it fell flat. Gunplay looks a bit shit frankly, although the hordes would technically impressive.

That scene where the zombies burst out of the train was something new. Looked really cool.

The gunplay and vehicle physics were poor, but it's early days yet and that's not stopped GTA before.

Liked the amount of creatures and hoping for some nice set pieces and plowing through them in armoured trucks. Wanna see more of the world now.

Yeah game looked stunning. That gun sound though...lol
It's really did but yeah... I liked the way the Zombies fell down realistically when shot. It felt somewhat refreshing.
As someone else pointed out, the way they chase you is like World War Z type of intensity.

Edge of your seat type stuff. The game looks amazing.

Yeah its really well done in the game.
Yeah one if the things that impressed me. At first I was wondering whether they'd just be shuffling Zombies but nope. They gave chase!

I missed that, seems like it was ages ago though. As for dead nation, this open world game seems to have a bit more depth and scope than a top down arcade shooter. Same for a bonus mode in an annual FPS.

And we got Dying Light and the newly remastered Dead Island collection. No lack of excellent zombie games.

The game didn't hype me a lot, and the trailer without gameplay did nothing for me. Still, I'm not a fan of open world games and Horizon looked quite better to me.

The zombie horde thing was really cool though, as it was seeing the buildings being destructible and being able to use environmental damage to slow down the horde.

It would be cool if they polished the gunplay a bit and the way the zombies act. They should stumble more when walking over other bodies.

The game is at least a year away though. Not every game seems the next big thing after the first trailer and some of those disappoint when they actually launch.

TL;DR: The tech is impressive, the showing could have been better. I'm interested but not hyped, hope to see new trailers soon.

This game looks nothing like both of those games to me, aside from the main genre being the same (open world zombie shooters).

A narrative driven, motorgang-based zombie tps with World War Z like hordes chasing you. And it is not like there is anything inherently wrong with this concept?

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Please note how it's only the people that are impressed with the game that are being incredibly rude to others in the thread. The people that aren't impressed are merely stating their opinion on the game. The people that are impressed are passing value judgements on other people in the thread for no good reason. World of difference.

So one kind of shit post is ok and another isn't?

Edit: I'm dropping this as its getting mostly off topic.

I'm guessing this had to fill time meant for Red Dead or Neo stuff. Not a great demo. I was waiting to see the reason they made the game, but it never came. Hopefully there's more to it.

I think its fairly obvious from the reveal trailer and demo...

My wife immediately said there's fluid dynamics to the way they move. I mean it looks scary and tense, but I'm still not sure what the game will actually be. I don't want that to be all of it.

In a genre where the zombies always stand around waiting for you to kill the this was actually a shockingly new and interesting take. They poor through openings, collapse structures with their weight and just keep coming in an endless torrent. To call that "just another zombie game" is absurdist bullpucky.

Hell no, there is nothing wrong with that concept. This looks like the best zombie game of the lot to me. As even their take on zombies makes it stand out.

Nice zombie horde tech for sure, but the game doesn't interest me much unless there is an extensive co-op component. Otherwise, I have zero desire to play a single player zombie these days. It is nothing against this game, just doesn't interest me in general.

I was a bit underwhelmed at first when I saw at the conference, but watching it again I can totally see the appeal and the technical achievements they are going for on this game.

Really pumped for it now, just hoping they borrow the gunplay from Uncharted 4, it sure seems it needs a bit more 'punchy' feel to it.

yeh you can definitely tell god mode / infinite ammo is on.

When he reloads the ammo counter doesnt go down.

Edit: Or does it? I think im seeing it change skipping ahead. mmm

as good as this game looks, we get real no sense of what the game actually is. If it has a real compelling story, that's the most interesting thing to me, this game-play will get old real quick.

Totally not the type of game for me. Looks good at what it does, but yeah, they didn't show anything that would convince me to play this game. But that's okay, every game can't appeal to everyone.

What are you talking about bro? You have inside info on what they had planned or something?

Game looks impressive as hell.

And since when do people need a reason to make awesome games?

Watch the announce trailer. It seems like it is definitely going to filled with 'feels' and intense moments.

i'm behind the times: is 'sons of anarchy' the new 'badass loner biker'?...

i guess if there's one positive to this, it's that bend, unlike ready at dawn, has definitely opted to go the full-out gameplay route as opposed to the cinematic route :) ...

except when they actually got close to you, and then all tension disappeared.

My ass, I thought he was going to get grabbed at any time and it looked like he was escaping by the skin of his teeth. Besides, I am sure with infinite ammo and god mode off you will get mowed like grass in this game.

ya a world war z game, the zombies seems brutal, i would love if the only way to survive is to just run away from zombies as opposed to stand and shoot them. more like run and shoot

He walked through and past a big group of zombies to be fair (at the end before he got on that long walkway to the top of that silo)

Stopped saying it's like Sons of Anarchy. I'll start to expect montages after every chapter finishes and Katey Sagal shitting things up with Sutter putting himself through torture porn...

The announce trailer made me like him right away. A lone drifter who lost it all and is just trying to make his way.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n95IaELdWDU

It's a Sons of Anarchy crossed with The Walking Dead kind of a vibe.

Same, I think one of the actors is Sam Witwer (Starkiller/Emperor & Maul from Rebels). Looked exactly like him in game.

As for the bolded, it is why I am stoked. I loved seeing the rockers on the back and side (reminded me of Jax), and just the little touches of the bandana in the back pocket with their own physics, also using 'grease monkey' ingenuity for a make shift suppressor (the oil filter).

This looks like Sons of Anarchy mixed with World War Z. I'm in.

Yep! Combined with TLoU moody music setting.

This is actually becoming one of my most anticipated.

I'm guessing this had to fill time meant for Red Dead or Neo stuff. Not a great demo. I was waiting to see the reason they made the game, but it never came. Hopefully there's more to it.

Probably because it is something they always wanted to do?

Developers should not be forced to make something, for the sake of being 'different' because someone else has similar themes out there. If they always had their hearts set on something, and are allowed the creative freedoms to put forth their version (vision), who cares what else is out there.

Luckily there is no shortage of games in this world. There literally is thousands upon thousands.

Definately World war Z inspired.

Bit worried about the gun play, it looked a bit Mousou in terms of low enemy actions to being shot, personally would prefer 1/2 or 1/3 of the zombies but they react better to bullets and headshots (more rewarding gunplay)...

Also looks like zombies cannt grab you when they get close, mousou like, which is meh.

Nice concept though

I felt like the monologue in the announce trailer was just waaaay too cheesy for me, makes me a little worried about what the story will be like, but the gameplay looks like it could be compelling and I welcome more games like this.

except when they actually got close to you, and then all tension disappeared.

Considering the usual things like the settings being messed with for a stage demo I was still pretty tense. Saw it in a movie theater and the entire crowd let out a loud audible sigh of relief when they thought the last of the zombies was dead. Was actually pretty cool to witness.

Here is an info breakdown for those that missed it:

Set in the beautiful, volcanic scarred high-desert of the Pacific Northwest, Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game where you play as Deacon St. John, a Drifter and bounty hunter who would rather risk the dangers of the broken road than live in one of the “safe” wilderness encampments.

The game takes place two years after a global pandemic has killed almost everyone, but transformed millions of others into what survivors call Freakers – mindless, feral creatures, more animal than human but very much alive and quickly evolving.

In the demo you saw two types of Freaks – Newts, which were adolescents when infected, are opportunistic hunters, preferring to hit and run from the shadows; and a Horde. Made up of hundreds of individual Freakers, Hordes eat, move and attack together, almost as one. Some Hordes roam the highways at night, while others, like the one in the demo, have found a food source that keeps it in a single location. Skills learned in his prior life as an outlaw biker have given Deacon a slight edge in the seemingly never-ending fight to stay alive. But will it be enough?

This is a brutal world, where everyone and everything is struggling to survive – but hopefully, the trailer shows that the game is about more than that. It’s about desperation, hope, transformation, loss, madness, discovery, friendship, exploration, brotherhood, regret and love. In the end, Days Gone is about what makes us human. It’s about how even when confronted with such enormous tragedy, we find a reason to live. Hope never dies.

https://blog.eu.playstation.com/201...ne-bend-studios-new-open-world-ps4-adventure/

And more:

Exemplifying truly free-form gameplay, Days Gone offers freedom to explore, strategize and play “your way” in the vast high-desert of the Pacific Northwest. The hazardous environments, filled with carved out ridges, mountains, caves, cliffs mines and river basins, deliver a breathtaking backdrop to an equally diverse style of gameplay.

Emergent Gameplay

Featuring fully explorable environments and dynamic AI enemies, players will rely on their own abilities to strategize, craft weapons and tools, explore the world, and engage in combat. With almost every car, building and environment searchable, Days Gone delivers emergent gameplay possibilities, making a player’s approach to combat and discovery a vital part of the experience.

Stunning, Dynamic Graphics

Using the power of PlayStation 4 and Unreal Engine 4, Bend Studio has developed a high volume of rendering and gameplay technology to deliver an incredibly realistic open world experience. Realistic weather effects, such as rain, wind, snow and day-night cycles impact the gameplay. The game’s lighting is all real-time and reacts dynamically, the way the human iris does, as players move from one location to the next.

Again, I am sure they had the demo tailored for the player to look good... as always. I am not worried about the game being some cake walk.

I really liked what I saw. It might not be the most original game, but I loved the way the horde of zombies...or *ahem* Freakers moved. I can just imagine running through a dark forest and trying to get away from a horde. Could be a cool, solid title from the looks of it.

You seriously have no idea how these events are set up do you?

There was no Red Dead to be shown there. If there was, it would have been there.

I apologize if it's been touched upon already in this thread, but is the actor that plays Deacon the same guy that was Starkiller in The Force Unleashed?

Gunplay looks as dull and boring as hell, looks even worse than Wild Lands.

Whats wrong with devs, cant they make gunplay feel good anymore?
