DF - Horizon is a technical masterpiece on PS4 and Pro

But it doesnt move like foliage. Same goes for Battlefront which has outstanding vegetation in terms of asset quality, but physics are poor.

And then you have interaction:

Now Crysis 3 doesnt have too much unique assets for vegetation, but they do physics the best from all games i've played:

This, I agree that BFront is the best showcase of foliage to date. But I still don't see why people are always bringing Crysis3 on the table when it's about foliage even on 2017. Physics is good, but grass looks off when it's moving, because the lack of density is more obvious, it has hair implants syndrom, you can count them. And visually, they are not convincing at all nowaday.

While Horizon looks good, I wouldn't say that it's surpassed Crysis 3. The foliage in that game is insane.

Crysis 3 still holds up. Overall I would say Horizon is quite a lot more impressive in most ways, add in that it is an open world game, and there is a pretty big difference. But Crysis 3 is now some years old.

crysis 3 still has the best grass overall imo as well. horizon is a good ways ahead all aspects combined however. not having well designed physically based materials is hard to go back to. really makes games look artificial.

Just to make it clear, I was only responding to the 'better than Crysis 3 ultra grass' comments, not saying that Crysis 3 as a whole looks better than Horizon.
And I agree with KKRT00's comment about Crysis 3's grass being even more impressive when you see it in motion.

Interesting seeing DF have such praise for the tech side but after reading the eurogamer review overall comes off a bit meh. Will definitely get it as I really like GG from killzone 2 and the world they created with that.

So you've concluded from one site that the review comes off a bit meh despite the fact the majority of sites have glowing praise for the game? Sometimes I wonder.....

UC4 has some nice foliage interaction, it's about the only game I can think of that can match Crysis there. I remember a big I saw of Nate and Elena tag teaming in midst of heavy foliage and there was no clipping even though it was a canned animation and even the tip of Elena's coming in contact with part of a shrub (rather than the whole shrub) managed to make that part move away from her.

He is talking about physical interaction with foliage not just foliage movements. Witcher 3 foliage moves with the wind erratically just like in your gif but it doesn't really physically react to the player or abilities, same in Battlefront. From physical interaction I meant the movement are in accordance to what the interaction is like rather than just a canned movement where the foliage shakes etc..

Crysis games are the king in this area and Uncharted 4 is the only game that comes close to matching them.

The video he posted, was showcasing wind too. This gif is a response to this part of the video... For the interaction, I don't have the game, so I can't tell...

FH3 suprised me having the same kind of foilage physics as Crysis. When you're in the jungle every piece of fiolage bends with soft body physics realistically to your car. I don't remember any other game doing it like that other than Crysis

I haven't kept up with mods and adjustments but is there a way to increase the rate at which foliage physics are updated? From what I recall, grass and other foliage only update at 30hz and look kinda out of place against the rest of the game. I'd love to remove that limitation, if it's possible.

There was, iirc, a console command on release that was patched out? I honestly have no idea what it was...

And I think the grass runs at half your native refresh, so if you have 120hz it does update at 60. And if you have SLI, it always only updates on a primary GPU interval, so with three cards at 60 fps it updates every 3 frames. So odd....
