Dragon Quest VIII (2004) sold ~1m more than Final Fantasy XII (2006)
Dragon Quest VII sold 1.5m more than Final Fantasy IX (both in 2000)
And Dragon Quest is a traditional RPG. I don't know how you can sell to the west a game with a cliche storyline (good vs evil), turn based battle system and the same structure since the 80's
And I say this as a huge DQ fan
Holy moley, that's amazing.
Didn't know about this anime.
Now I'm curious about the other Sugiyama works for the anime industry.
Google translate is always interesting.Nintendo just posted an article about dragon quest XI, and at the end of it they reconfirm the switch version. I don't know if it's been posted

They said they are releasing the versions at the same time.I just have a feeling that the 3DS version is going to come out before the HD version does.
There are other series out there that do the things you're talking about. It's nice to have a constant in the gaming world that you can rely on. It's the equivalent of comfort food.
This recent resurgence of DQ is rather refreshing.
So many quality titles being released & made,XI being the best example of that.
It would seem like its been an eternity since this series had this much coming out in the home console space.
They said they are releasing the versions at the same time.
God I love DQ. Watched this trailer so many times now.
I love the storytelling of DQ. It has this distance to its subjects, this ability to tell macroscopic tragedies, comedies, and romances that transcend the scope of more "in the characters" story-telling techniques.
I also just love the idea of a party based epic JRPG and that is a note DQ keeps hitting despite the decreasing feasibility of such a game.
And then there's just that DQ charm and flavor.
It is amazing stuff.
More games should look to Persona 5 as inspiration as Persona 5 is a true classic turn based rpg,its just that the menu is mapped to the face buttons/triggers instead of picking every action from a list (exceptions being using items, and optionally, choosing Personas.) In my opinion this is genius the true perfect evolution of the gebre and I think that Dragon Quest as well as all classic turn based Jrpgs should blatantly and shamelessly ape that style.
It's both traditional and modern without the need for ATB or real-time nonsense.
Dragon quest should just stay the way it is. No need to ape Persona or any nonsense evolution of the genre.
I'd be fine with and prefer that but the speculation that XI will have a similar battle system to DQX has me a bit worried so ,I think P5's system is the perfect compromise if they have to. change it.
Also, come on, like I said P5's battle system is true classic tactical party turned based. The only difference is the menu is mapped to Triangle, Circle, Cross, Square, and Left and Right trigger.
The actual output would be the same as DQVIII.
For example how itd work Attack is mapped to Triangle, Spells is mapped to Circle, Abilities are mapped to Cross, Tension is mapped to Square, Flee is mapped to left trigger.
When you press Triangle or Circle, the respective Spells/Ability menu pops up. I mean, it literally works the same exact way as old DQ games with the exception of the removal of one menu.
I get you, but just abit worried since the first Xenosaga had physical attacks mapped to the buttons, and I got quickly bored of the battle system in that game. Looking back the only good Xenosaga battle system wise was 3. In that game they got rid of this system and went more like your typical Jrpg turn based with a little bit of tweaks, and it seems that people enjoyed it more.
I hope I can turn off one of the screens on the 3DS or replace it with something else, it looks distracting the way it is right now.
You only have both on screens for the introduction.
Define a "game for kids".
And what an adult response!
Just a reference, not serious
I hope the game is turn based and not the weird semi action thing from DQX
If it is some hybrid or an auto battler for your party, I am out. They have been making turn based more boring as time goes on first by limiting your active party size and then by removing control of your party. Then you get stuck issuing commands for 1 member of the party and the rest just follows your inputs. It is dreadfully boring and not what I play turn based games for. Spinning 1 plate is not as engaging as spinning 3 or 4 or 5. Their simplification for the masses has not attracted new people and just drives people away who were already fans.
In DQ? DQ has had 4 party members since DQ3, and I think allowing auto battling for everyone but the main character started in 6, and it's optional and not usually optimal outside of grinding and sometimes the AI anticipating needing to heal.

It's already announced for Switch.
We don't know what Switch version is, but it's probably ~PS4 version. You can't switch to 2D in PS4 version and I'd imagine not Switch version either.Ah, nice. I guess the OP says that the footage is from those versions, not that they're the only ones, my mistake.
Can one switch to sprites in the PS4 / Switch versions, or is it a 3DS exclusive feature?
With the Switch's specs revealed does anyone really want that version to be a downgraded PS4 version 1840 glfops > 150 glops ? Better to have the 3DS version with better framerate and higher rez textures...
Why make a version worse when you can make one better.
Mostly right, but a few corrections.
Auto battling began with DQ4. I. The nes version, you couldn't control the party in chapter 5. They changed that in the remakes though.
Dragon quest has a party of three. Again, changed in the remake

The ps4 version's battle system is now fully in third person view as opposed to first, or partially first. From the look of things, the battle seem to take place in real time location as opposed to a separate screen?
