That's what it will use to change the channel on an old cable box.

The idea is that HDMI will control the cable box to change channels, this is not always the case.

There are definitely cheaper HDMI cables that don't have the bandwidth for 3d or 4k.

But don't let facts get in the way of a good rib.

Sony fans should have been thanking Microsoft this entire generation then if you can remember what online looked like when PS3 launched.

There was no way Sony could've corrected themselves with PS3 pre-launch though. Cell infastructure, BD-drive, loss of $300 per console, developer's struggle with Cell, both first-party and 3rd-party, lack of foresight over importance of online gaming...

None of this was anything that could've been reversed without literally delaying the PS3 another year, or even two.

The IR out is to plug in a cable that trails to the front of your cable box.
