Which is unfortunate, but at least they'll have the finals on stream tomorrow on srkevo1 channel (2 PM), which I'm looking forward to. Especially since last year was great.

Went 4-2 in my Melee Pools match, finishing 4th! Last round was a poor counterpick by me and I lost to L in a disappointing fashion after running it really close in Game 1. Started at the venue at 10am, left at midnight on the dot. Still can't sleep D:

Just started watching ultra qfinals, no idea who made it out of pools, time to eat...

first 20 mins - dat koji hawk!, lol @ champ giving daigo dat L, guess he didn't grind out Evil Ryu in the arcades enough lol.

da fuck they going on about in this yun match about evo being the place to prove who's the strongest character and AE showed that when yun didn't win. Who gives a shit about 1 tourny result, Sagat was the best in Vanilla, didn't win Evo, Yun was the best in AE.

anyway back to this piff.

Me either. My advice to any decent player is if the cliquishness and things get too much and you have the option go elsewhere.

Leaving your area just to play fighting games is an option many folks won't take, for obvious reasons.

Reminds me of the time some idiot told me to quit my job so I could play more games.

Exactly. There's still nowhere near enough money in fighting game tournaments for this to be a wise option, especially if you're not playing one of the more popular (Capcom) games.

Wow, woke up to some crazy results. Choi destoyed Daigo even with those execution errors, pretty insane.

Guess I'll be rooting for Snake Eyez and Sako to take it XD

I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that it is worth it to travel and play other people outside of your local region.

I have only ever gotten better at SF in fits and spurts, and each time it has been in the time surrounding tournaments I am travelling to.

EDIT: Bonchan (Sagat) beating two Rufus players in a row as his T32 and T16 winner's round games? :| I bet he was happy to hear he got that matchup twice. It's Rufus' worst matchup now that Gief is only 5.5 - 4.5

Oh, that reminds me.

Once Ryan Hart got knocked into Loser's, he ended up against Imstilldadaddy. London vs London match at Evo. :|

The implication there isn't to merely travel to tournaments. The implication is to drop everything and move to another area completely just to get some proper practice.

Bonchan didn't even play Rufus. He played against Justin's Elena, and Ricky's Rolento who both looked anything but sharp or on point. It's like the match up won him the game without the game. And to Mango Sent who said Bonchan's Sagat isn't Sanford's. I've seen Justin play Ryan Heart in like a set of 20. I think Ryan won like 11-9 or 12-8. I mean... Justin won 8-9 of those. Neither he or Ricky thought they could win 2? That's a joke.

Sounds like it was a bittersweet run for you. Glad you got 4th in your pools though. But if you can't sleep, you're in the perfect place! Enjoy the nightlife, food, casino, or mingle with fellow players/casuals. I'm sure they're are those still up and about.

Just caught up with the final match between JCDR and Gen Kids for Tekken Tag Tournament 2, as I was too knackered from work to stay up until 2am for it. Absolutely great playing from both of them and has inspired me to get back into practising again.

I would say it's a shame my go-to character isn't generally a winning-tier one, but after seeing how things went down with Ness and Yoshi in the Smash Bros Melee stream, it shows that there's always the chance if you play well enough.

I'm gonna be rooting hard for Ricky and Snake Eyez.

Above all else though, I just don't want to see a Fei Long mirror in grand finals. Someone please knock out one of the Fei players.

USF4 is really a coin toss, how can you not like that? Shit is so unpredictable.

I know people want to see the most popular players, but with so many killers and so many players from every part of the world it's gettin' harder to make a prediction.

Evo needs to run a double stream for SF4, it's the same shit every year, we miss tons of great matches while there's nothing happening on the official streams. Level up your game please.

I don't know why Capcom Fighters didn't keep going with more matches. Ah well. Top 8 is pretty solid, all established guess aside from maybe Gackt.

Yeah, that's daft. But making a consistently active attempt to travel to other regions is really important.

Bonchan didn't even play Rufus. He played against Justin's Elena, and Ricky's Rolento who both looked anything but sharp or on point. It's like the match up won him the game without the game. Let me try and describe how much fun the Rufus - Sagat matchup is for Rufus players.

Sagat player's basic strategy:

1) 3/4 screen? Throw fireballs.
2) 1/2 screen? Tiger knee fishing, EX Tiger Knee into free pressure, EX fireballs, walk forward and throw out a normal.

At both of these ranges, Sagat's risk is that Rufus will make a read and convert that read into a knockdown. Sagat can avoid this risk by simply playing the above two games whilst avoiding Rufus' only counter strategies:

1) 3/4 screen? FADC through fireballs (counter: normals or tiger knees) or jump (counter - DP, f+HK, HK, EX knee, ultra...)
2) 1/2 screen? Cr.HP can beat some pokes, and the best case scenario is - again - a read into a knockdown via a sweep, a miracle divekick (better hope there's no tiger knee from Sagat on reaction!) or the Sagat player to go for something stupid.
3) You're close? Sagat still has a wall of solid reversals, so even now you are playing a risky game. Sagat's cr.lp beats divekicks, anything he hits will be converted into damage and knocking you back out to half screen.

If Sagat is played with a brain, Rufus should never be able to get in. And Capcom being Capcom removed any use for U2 in their "balance buffs with random nerfs" strategy for Ultra, and made U2 only do 360 damage, meaning that not only does Rufus have to sacrifice U1 in the matchup, he gets a move that will most likely not do enough damage to put himself back in the game from a disadvantage.

Sagat - Rufus, played properly and with equal player skill, is 6.5-3.5, and Rufus' worst matchup in Ultra. Any Rufus main serious about playing in tournaments should have a counterpick character for this matchup. Of course, I say that and Justin beats Sanford pretty consistently in the matchup.

I'm just now really getting into the FGC, why does SFxT get so much hate?
Poor decisions during launch on several fronts that, while mitigated to various degrees in the months that followed, carried a stigma that the game could never really shake.

Agreed, especially once the player pool reach 2000 players. It need 2 stream at the very least, so it's up to them to come up with a better solution next year.

I'm just now really getting into the FGC, why does SFxT get so much hate?

It's a variety of reasons.

1. DLC characters not available to players for 6 months. VITA version gets them first despite releasing after PS3/360. As far as speculation goes, these characters were fully developed when the game originally released and were already in the game but kept off from players until a much later point in time and for a price.

2. Terrible online netcode. Pair play had a lot of issues and the initial vanilla release had sound/audio synching issues.

3. Vanilla version had pandora but it was a largely useless gameplay mechanic then.

4. A lot of matches resulted in time outs.

5. Biggest problem, though, was that the game has gems that increase certain attributes for your fighters. Capcom, of course, tried to turn this into a money-making scheme by selling different gem packs on the PSN/Xbox online stores.

The game itself is excellent and pretty solid but these things contributed to its widespread hatred.

I would love to see more of the game because pair play is a LOT of fun and the gameplay has a lot of potential that probably still hasn't been fully explored.

Did Justin lose to Kazunoko with Rufus? What's up with Ricky and Justin not playing with Rufus against sagat? Matchup that bad?

Where is it possible to watch the entirety of the stream if I missed it? I can't watch any of the today or the day after, and would really like to watch the matches.

Poor decisions during launch on several fronts that, while mitigated to various degrees in the months that followed, carried a stigma that the game could never really shake.

To elaborate:

1) The game was badly balanced and glitchy on launch. Certain characters were WTF amazing, some - mostly Tekken characters - were atrocious.
2) Many of the game's systems were badly designed - boost combos, tags, cross assaults, pandora mode and gems were loved by some, strongly disliked by many.
3) The game is a visual mess.
4) The community quickly discovered that Capcom had locked 12 complete DLC characters on the disc, along with a variety of gems.
5) A whopping 5 console exclusive characters for the PS3 version, including Troll Megaman and Mokujin Pac-Man, neither of which had any excuse to be exclusive.
6) The autoblock gem caused a lot of ire when launched.
7) Throws were extremely bad - 7f on startup for very little damage. This lead to hyper-defensive play, known as Jab X Timeout.
8) The music... oh sweet lord the music. With classic crossovers like MvC and CvS being well loved for their scores, tracks like Pitstop 109 made people actively avoid some stages, unless you liked...
9) Trolling - Capcom's addition of a colour edit mode was appreciated up until the point they released the neon glow colours. An already negative community reaction overflowed into active distaste for some when all-neon characters became the new Blanka Alt 3 Meta online.
10) Evo mandated a 2v2 rule for tournaments, which was just about the stupidest idea known to man.
11) Due to the fact that you have two lifebars, games could (and still) take a long time to finish, which only forced the hyper defensive playstyle further into dominance. If you had any kind of lifelead at 20 seconds left, you almost certainly had won the round.
12) The game was a very easy target for the not-Capcom communities to blow holes in.
13) Marvel was big at the time, and the hype vs anti-hype was a big contrast.
14) Cross Assault made the FGC look like sexist children.
15) The game was utter garbage, and still is to this day.

Go watch a SFxT tournament. Any one. It's a dull, samey experience which does not encourage you to play the game.

SFxT is the best modern example of a 2D fighter commiting sudoku. Dissect it and you can find a lot of what-not-to-dos.

This is neogaf.

The fact that two people can have such disparate opinions on it is pretty much SFxT in a nutshell. Some people really like it - and it's not as if they're wrong - getting fun out of that game is fine. But Jesus is the game wonky. And it had such potential.
