To be fair, a third version released a few months after the first two (YW2: Shin Uchi) is going to outsell Pokémon ORAS, which have 3 weeks more of sales.

01./01. [3DS] Yo-kai Watch 2: Shin Uchi <RPG> (Level 5) {2014.12.13} (¥4.968) - 50.244 / 2.372.371 (-33%)
02./02. [3DS] Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire <RPG> (Pokemon Co.) {2014.11.21} (¥4.937) - 24.964 / 2.457.623 (-35%)

I wouldn't be so sure.

Smash Wii U squeaking into the top ten. It was only on sale in Japan for like three weeks right?

Wii Party U's success continues to amaze. No wonder they are making new Amiibo and an Amiibo-only mode for the new Mario Party.

Wii Party U was bundled up until May of last year. The vast majority of its sales seem to be from that.

Dark days for Sony and consoles in general here.
Hopefully there's positive news for them buried in the digital sales we're not seeing.

Regarding Yokai Watch vs Pokemon, I think it's worth noting that the last original Pokemon entry (X/Y) was still significantly bigger than Yokai Watch 2. So while 2014 was certainly the year of Yokai Watch, it still isn't quite as big as Pokemon. The new version of Yokai Watch 2 is selling about as well as the new Pokemon remake of Ruby/Sapphire, which is pretty great for a brand new franchise, but to determine if it really is bigger than Pokemon, we'll have to see how Yokai Watch 3 performs against the next brand new Pokemon title.

Indeed. Pokémon remakes and enhanced versions never sell as well as the main versions.

Though Yokai Watch selling as well as them is still a phenomenal feat.

Inazuma Eleven peaked with the second entry didn't it? It will be interesting to see where Youkai Watch 3 falls in relation to Youkai Watch 2.

At least we won't have to wait long to find out!

This true. Nonetheless, it is interesting to have the first real Pokémon competitor.

They should just localize the PS4 version and sell it for 40$/30€ on PSN.
EU+US would get ~300k at least, double of the japanese numbers

$300,000 in revenue? That's a little low (only 10k copies), but given it's Yakuza, an understandable prediction.

ArtHands

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
Hopefully we will see a crossover between any two from yokai watch/monster hunter/pokemon in the future.

[360] Titanfall (Electronic Arts) {2014-04-10} - 15,254 / 15,254
[360] Dark Souls II (From Software) {2014-03-13} - 8,674 / 8,674

No numbers again for 360, Wii and PSP?

PSP - 83,985 / 16,692,478
360 - 8,569 / 1,616,128

Wii is just bones now.

97. [WIU] Taiko no Tatsujin: Wii U Version! # <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.11.21} (¥5.480) - 83.734 / 179.810

The last update was on June 29th 2014 at 162,440. So it's done another 17,370 since.

Not too bad for a 3rd-party Wii U game IMO.

22. [3DS] Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth # <RPG> (Atlus) {2014.06.05} (¥7.538) - 254.631

Persona Q did extremely well; it's the fourth best-selling Persona game behind Persona, Persona 4 and Persona 4 Golden. Also, accounting for digital sales, the game should be around 270.000 units.

26. [3DS] Harvest Moon: Linking The New World <SLG> (Marvelous AQL) {2014.02.27} (¥5.040) - 243.000

It's surprising to see how well Harvest Moon migrated on 3DS. The first one reached the 300k mark, this one is not very far and might sell well over time (also digitally) if Marvelous doesn't announce a new one soon.

37. [3DS] Fossil Fighters: Infinite Gear <RPG> (Nintendo) {2014.02.27} (¥4.800) - 182.562

This IP declined with respect to DS entries, but it still pulled good numbers. Nintendo should have pushed more towards the multi-media franchise aspect (it had a manga on CoroCoro).

39. [3DS] Battle For Money Sentouchuu: Densetsu no Shinobi no Survival Battle! <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.10.17} (¥4.980) - 170.276 / 365.194

A 365k game (almost) out of nowhere. I wonder whether Bamco will do another Battle for Money game; it should reach the 200k without problems.

49. [3DS] Dragon Quest X Online <RPG> (Square Enix) {2014.09.04} (¥4.104) - 141.845

This is surely one of the most surprising results of the year. I mean, this is a download code for a streaming app to play DQX on a small device at home... This shows how 3DS is a good fit for the IP, in my opinion.

50. [3DS] Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call # <ACT> (Square Enix) {2014.04.24} (¥6.264) - 140.105

Accounting for digital sales, this basically sold as well as the first one (which haven't received an eShop release yet). With DLC, SQEX should be happy about this result.

71. [3DS] Inazuma Eleven Go Galaxy: Big Bang / Supernova <RPG> (Level 5) {2013.12.05} (¥5.500) - 107.340 / 277.207

Though declining a lot with respect to DS entries, and a bit with respect to 3DS entries, the IP might still be able to pull 250k+ numbers... which are not that bad given the state of the market.

79. [3DS] Puyo Puyo Tetris <PZL> (Sega) {2014.02.06} (¥5.229) - 100.116

3DS is the only platform where this game could barely succeed.

89. [3DS] Style Savvy: Trendsetters - Tokimeki Up! <ETC> (Nintendo) {2014.04.17} (¥4.936) - 92.513

Not bad for an expansion that was released completely off the radar. Along with the vanilla version, the game sold well above 400k units.

100. [3DS] World Soccer Winning Eleven 2014: Samurai Blue Challenge <SPT> (Konami) {2014.05.22} (¥5.119) - 81.853

Not bad for the second WE on 3DS. Konami should at least keep a 3DS version for Japan, hoping it might sell something in Europe (Fifa is selling well in Germany on 3DS, for example).

Overall, 3DS showed how big its market is.
Great post. It's really encouraging to see these b-tier to c-tier games selling so well. It really speaks to the viability of the platform.

No Wii top 5 is disappointing, I wanted an update on Super Smash Bros. Brawl sales.

2008 - [WII] Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendo) {2008.01.31} - 1.747.113 / NEW
2009 - [WII] Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendo) {2008.01.31} - 133.725 / 1.880.838
2010 - [WII] Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendo) {2008.01.31} - 151.816 / 2.032.654
2011 - [WII] Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendo) {2008.01.31} - 98.968 / 2.131.622
2012 - [WII] Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendo) {2008.01.31} - 82.281 / 2.213.903
2013 - [WII] Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendo) {2008.01.31} - 89.200 / 2.303.103

Looking at the chart, I sigh as I ponder at the chance DQXI wouldn't be for 3DS.
Agreed. They have already said that it is going to be a console game, but it looks like they would simply be throwing away sales (and wasting development resources) if they go that route.

Life-to-date PS4 games sales (include games not listed in the top 100) by development region:
Code:
West: 1,233,842
Japan:	1,036,734

Removing Knack (that was bundled with every PS4 for the first month):
Code:

cmd+f : Evil Within

now i'm happy

You did it wrong.

When I went to Japan I was amazed at the reach of Yokai Watch even on Tv I saw the dance on a variety show. Merchandise everywhere, from food to accessories, clothing, toys, etc and found in many stores around the Tokyo.

Damn, Yokai Watch was higher than Pokémon.

I understand that it was out longer but...

It was higher than Pokémon.

Question:

What multiplier should we apply to digital sales? 10% of retail? 20%? Or does it likely vary too much from title to title / platform to platform paint a clear picture?

As far as we know, digital version of retail games tend to sell slightly better on PSN with respect to eShop in terms of percentage of the total sales, for a variety of reasons. The magnitude of sales is just one: it's hard to sell 10% of digital copies when the game is a million seller; it's not that hard when the game sells barely 50k units. Also, PS3 and PSV userbase is more inclined towards digital purchases, and they have less kids, unlike Nintendo. But it's more a case-by-case analysis, since you might have situation like Animal Crossing selling 500k units on the eShop because it was supply constrained.

Including FFXIV. That game must be like crack to its fans.

Such a weird crossover.

(Harvest Moon: Linking The New World) doing well is great. Can't wait to play it.

79. [3DS] Puyo Puyo Tetris <PZL> (Sega) {2014.02.06} (¥5.229) - 100.116

Only 79 games managed to sell over 100.000 units in 2014, this is less than half that of 2007.

100. [3DS] World Soccer Winning Eleven 2014: Samurai Blue Challenge <SPT> (Konami) {2014.05.22} (¥5.119) - 81.853

The cut-off mark for entering into the yearly top 100 is getting lower and lower.

It'd be also interesting to see the average sales, because we know there are fewer and fewer retail releases, so the fact that less games are selling more than 100k is also because of this.

I don't see YW lasting as long as Pokémon anyway. It's just the flavour of the month.

This is the correct answer to all of the "X franchise has officially dethroned Mario/Pokemon!" proclamations. See where YW is compared to Pokemon five years from now, much less 20.

Even if it does, it doesn't suddenly mean Pokémon isn't popular or has lost audience, either.
