Halo 6 won't be at E3 but 343 has a "little" something to show

Makes me wonder if h6 is 2018. 343, take all the time you need

Halo 6, I wonder if they took a step back to look at the game after the backlash Halo 5 received on the campaign front. They can't screw up again, they have yet to make a good Halo campaign. Could be that they're doing a massive re-work and they can't show anything yet.

The problem with Halo 5 is that the enemies weren't fun to fight. If you look at the original trilogy, the covenant was actually FUN and ENJOYABLE to fight. The alien machine things in 4 and 5..... major bore.

Promethean Knights are fun to fight, everything else not so much. Yet their problem even goes beyond that, they don't look like they belong within the universe. I don't think they look like Forerunner constructs, they're not particularly interesting, if anything they made they took away from the mysticism of Forerunners. They're not worth keeping around even if you make them fun to fight. The Banished are already a better faction.

Halo 4 was a good campaign with terrible MP. 5 was a good MP with a terrible campaign. They just need to put it together.

Halo 4 was bad too, the levels were more corridor like, enemies were a step down from previous games. Halo 4 may be better than 5 ( I actually prefer 5), both are nowhere near as good as the Bungie campaigns.

How long has it been since Halo wasn't at E3 in any meaningful way?

2016 - HW2 Announcement
2015 - Halo 5 Gameplay
2014 - MCC/H2A/Halo 5 Announcement
2013 - Halo for Xbox One Announcement
2012 - Halo 4 Gameplay
2011 - HCEA/Halo 4 Announcement
2010 - Halo Reach Campaign Gameplay
2009 - Halo 3 ODST/Recon, Reach Announcement
2008 - Halo Wars Announcement
2007 - Halo 3 Campaign gameplay
2006 - Halo 3 Announcement
2005...?

So this is the first time in 12 years that we haven't had a Halo announcement of some kind.

DAYUM when you put it like that. But part of me is really happy. I hope 343 gets as much time as they need

Pretty crazy. I'm not upset on the Halo 6 front, could be a good sign. I'm pretty disappointed there's no Halo 5 or MCC Xbox One X update. I really would have liked a H3A map pack for Halo 5 as well, maybe that'll come, DLC isn't worth mentioning in a conference like that.

Yikes, they're really JUST working on Halo 6? Or is 343 spreading themselves thin over two projects? Clearly, 343 don't have anybody else working on a spin-off title. Because they'd have something to show by now.

Halo 3: Recon/ODST was not announced at E3 in 2008, it was announced at the 2008 Tokyo Game Show.

I knew there wasn't going to be a Halo 3 Anniversary but I'm still sad :( god damnit they're weren't that many first party games. *sigh. My favorite Halo getting slighted WTF

Did they show anything on the halo front? What was the "little something"?

Probably that rumored Halo Wars 2 DLC gonna be announced at Xbox Dailey my guess

How is Halo 5 not getting Xbox One X Enhanced? That's just mind boggling. Maybe they're saving that as a separate announcement? I just can't see the biggest franchise on the system not getting the Scorpio treatment.

Disappointed there was no Halo at this conference. For the lack of MS 1st party games at this E3 and MS launching a new console at $500, I'm very surprised they didn't have 343 at least show some sort of CGI trailer for Halo 6 and say that it's coming to XB1X. Just to generate hype....

They probably learned their lesson from doing that for Halo 5.

Okay, as I wrap my head around this

This fall is the 10 year anniversary of HALO 3

I get that H3A might not be equitable or reasonable at the moment, I can put my big boy pants on and understand.

So lets launch a Halo 3 inspired playlist with great remakes to honor the game, but keep our player base together, I totally get it.

Halo 5 is monetized, no other Halo game is, and you cant put Micro-transactions into a campaign remake of a game, you also cant patch it into MCC because the uncertainty and shakiness of that games performance, cant risk obtaining even more negative mindshare. Again, I get it.

So Halo 5 playlist = good
But where are the players? (playing other games)

You know what would be a great incentive to get people back?

For starters, Put the game in Game Pass (Done, excellent idea) now Give new Scorpio owners a reason to boot up the game just to see the enhancements, run around Sanghelios in campaign for a few minutes, remember how good the movement feels.. maybe they drop into some multiplayer, remember they love the game and even buy a single req pack. Success.

Instead they are gunna send a playlist out to die at a limited playerbase while everyone has either moved on to other games or only wants to show off their new hardware with newer prettier games.

I thought H5 4K was such an absolute slam dunk shoe-in no-brainer that I hadn't even bothered to consider what would happen if they didn't, I really believe this was a huge missed opportunity to get back a sliver of population (not bringing the game back to life mind you) for a short time, honor Halo 3, hopefully sell a few more req packs than they normally would have, and let the game die on a high note as we wait another year for Halo 6.

Now I understand this Fall (like every Fall) is jammed pack of games and people might not make time for Halo anyways, but ya know how you can 100% guarantee they wont make time for it, give them almost no reason to. That's what 343 has done.

This whole time I bought my 4k OLED HDR TV Ive been sitting here thinking, "man, cant wait to check out all this 343 Rock Porn when I get scorpio" Now Ill just be looking at actual porn Destiny 2, Battlefront 2, PUBG and who knows if I will even drop in. I'm not mad or upset, just a bit disappointed.

I was always one to say that a Halo 3 Anniversary would have been stupid and unnecessary, but after that conference, yikes.

They needed a heavy hitter to really show what the One X can do. Halo 3 Anniversary would have been the perfect thing to do that with.

It's also the greatest first party game Microsoft have ever published, to do anniversarys for 1/2 but ignore 3 is pretty bad.

yeah i'm the same, I still play H5 most days and it's THE game I've been thinking about playing when I get the scorpio... I didn't expect 4k textures or anything, just a standard resolution bump to clean things up at the least, maybe fix those distant animations.

I mean it's halo, a flagship first party title!

now i'm just expecting solid 1080p... on my scorpio.
that's not what i'm paying $650 AU for.
Sorry 343, I've LOVED H5 but that's where I move on.

Halo 5 included way more Covenant than 4 though, and also went a long way in addressing the stupid frustrating aspects of the Prometheans by:

- giving each type clear weak points
- giving each class a distinctive look, and visually distinguishing each enemy-wielded weapon
- substantially reducing or eliminating dumb annoying behaviors like teleporting far away from you or right up in your face, charging unexpectedly, and hiding
- lowering the HP of the bullet spongey knights
- adding clear visual and aural tells to mark their attacks
- making Promethean weapons especially effective against Prometheans

So fighting Prometheans in Halo 5 is really a serious and noticeable step up from Halo 4. They are still bad enemies, but they're a lot more manageable and less irritating. 343 deserve credit for putting in a lot of work to improve them.

Not just a flagship title, it's the flagship title

Maybe they will announce something during their weekly xbox shows this week?

Yeah but Covenant enemies have been massively dumbed down and are barely even scary to fight in the last 2 mainline Halo games.

I think the right call is to go dark for awhile, at least until next E3.

They need to pull back on all the transmedia and spinoff stuff which has diluted the brand and just served as distractions over the last 10 years, much as it might pain the leadership at 343 who all come from the transmedia/franchise side of the business.

Interest in the franchise is, indisputably, at an all-time low and the next major move 343i makes could be make-or-break to determine whether or not Halo can continue being a standard-bearer for the xbox platform, or simply recedes into the background with the rest of Microsoft's aging legacy IP (gears, forza, fable, etc).

Halo 3 Anniversary next year.

Halo 6 2019.

Give it 4 years of development 343i. Interest in the franchise and universe is waning. Give it as long as needed to maximise content, refine and polish, and make it something that truly asserts itself.

I expected literally nothing from 343 and still somehow ended up disappointed that Halo wasn't shown at all.

Halo 6, I wonder if they took a step back to look at the game after the backlash Halo 5 received on the campaign front. They can't screw up again, they have yet to make a good Halo campaign. Could be that they're doing a massive re-work and they can't show anything yet.

I would be genuinely impressed if they overhaul the game and take it back to its roots.

They said "little", we just need to look deeper...

Microsoft: Today is 343i's presentation, 343 are you ready to show the class?
343i: *Looks through bag in panic* Pssst hey Creative Assembly can I borrow your project?
Creative Assembly: Well I-- *343 rips Halo Wars 2 DLC out of CA's hand*
343i: Well, I do have a little something to show the class.

I don't think they want to announce things too early, because sometimes things change in development, and then they rigthfully get blamed that the final product didn't resemble the concept trailer some time ago.

It's also nice that we don't have too much of halo, it needs bit of a breather, just give them the time it needs.

If you were talking about 4 in particular, I'd agree, but applied to 5 I can't take this criticism seriously anymore. I think the biggest problem is that the AI (but for BOTH) is not up to snuff. That played a major part in making the fights in the previous Halo games so enjoyable, and they seemingly tried (and failed) to mitigate this by boosting enemy numbers.
