I can't believe how crap quality the Rise of the Tomb Raider CE was.

Super detailed figures with perfect faces just aren't gonna be packed into a $150 CE.

Figures by dedicated figurine companies like Sideshow Collectibles start at $150 for the statue alone, but at least you know you're guaranteed a high quality product.

They're almost always the better option if you really want something you can put on a shelf.

That Lara face is hilarious, though.
There have been a bazillion McFarlane toys (plus other similar companies that followed in their footsteps) that routinely had better sculpts and paint jobs than shit like the statue in the OP, at what, $15-$20 a pop? I don't think it's too much to expect a decent quality non articulated statue if you're paying an extra $80 for a limited edition. Same goes for the steel case. A cheapo clear plastic insert inside a tin fit for grocery store Christmas cookies? Really? This bait and switch crap doesn't deserve to be defended, especially when people have shown multiple instances where publishers actually did a decent job with collector's editions. This is obviously a shoddy cash grab.

The MKX Coarse one was FANTASTIC. I can't believe people prefer the other statue. The coarse one has a nice simplicity but also very clean sculpt. The statue looks exactly like how it was advertised. Pure quality through and through:

The journal that came with Uncharted 2 CE was really impressive. It was pretty much a re-creation of Drake's journal in the game.

That's good to know. I really thought it looked great in the promo shots. Had this DC Animated Universe look going on.

Unless the figure is from a known manufacturer e.g. Koto, I don't really bother. It's hard to even say the price reflects given how jacked up CE prices have gone (and how awful the figures are).

If you want high quality figures/statues, you pretty much have to go the specialist route, and that's where Action Figure GAF can help.

The Japanese CE are still top tier though, usually.

Overall, crappy figures, sample soundtracks, tiny artworks are big turn offs. And stickers/tattoos...

Oh man this thread has delivered, what a good laugh I've had, feel pretty sorry for you OP looks like they sent you some real garbage, I guess lesson learned that a CE is always a gamble.

I think the funniest CE was the Master Chief helmet that was the size of a cats head.

It was the most expensive game I ever bought at the time. I actually felt dumb after a month paying so much money for it. But based on collector's editions today, the Halo 3 legendary edition was fantastic!

I mean the collectors edition of the previous game wasn't that great, but man this is just straight up terrible. A shame about the necklace too, the one I got with the Reboots strategy guide a few years back had a really good weight to it, didn't feel cheap and the design was double sided - I actually wear it on occasion, which is the best compliment I guess you could give. You can probably begin to speculate why this collectors edition wasn't available outside of the US...

Don't buy collectors editions. They are worthless and full of garbage 100% of the time.

Most of them are.

Nintendo is one of the few companies to get it right most of the time (barring Bravely Default EU).

Most of them come with an artbook, ost or an amiibo and are barely any more expensive than the standard version. Still have my gold Zelda 25th anniversary wiimote that I gor for like 10 bucks extra with SS.

Warner Bros., Ubisoft and Sony are the kings of overpriced junk CEs.

Was expecting hilarity and this thread delivered. Thanks for the new avatar!

Also a stark reminder of why I don't buy CE. Almost always a bunch of a cheap junk that I'd be embarrassed to display in my home anyway.

Looking at some unboxing's a few of the faces don't look quite as derpy. Seems like theres no consistency to the quality of the eyes some are more squinty and while others like the one the OP got look like she just sharted.

Single best description of that look right there. Still laughing.
