I can't believe how crap quality the Rise of the Tomb Raider CE was.

Wow, those elbow joints look like tumours.

Yeah that's how Revolvtech does their rotating joints, hate it. Reminds me of a creepy marionette.

Depends. I got the FF Type 0 collector's edition because of the beautiful steelbook and artbook. Same for witcher 3. I guess everyone has that little something which pushes them to dish out extra on a collector's ed.

Really, it depends.

A bunch of useless trinkets? Yeah, not interested.

A gorgeous artbook, a tie-in manga, a lovely soundtrack... stuff like that is well appreciated. Certainly more than a giant, garish, poorly manufactured statue.

Toys in general have been looking a lot worse than they use to.

neca's stuff use to look way better but they are looking so cheap now i hardly care to buy them.

A good mold for one toy can cost 10's of 1,000s of dollars.

Don't expect good looking toys unless you are paying decent money for them, those days are pretty much over as a lot of toys that look nice in this kind of market don't sell well enough perhaps.

Old mcfarlane stuff still looks way better than half the new stuff today.

Oh wow that's garbage.

I've been buying CE after CE lately and I'd be pissed if that showed up.

My Halo 5 statues are pretty Dope and I have a bunch of random tales things.

My 40 dollar Michonne from Gamestop has better quality than that.

This CE is a big FU to its fans with the quality.

Compared to the awesome CE that was the Witcher 3.

And after close examination, it was expected...

Why am I not surprised.

Compared to the Witcher 3 CE. Rise of the Tomb Raider didn't have much effort even in giving a cover to the CE, just black to cut cost in manufacturing.

I'm done raging now.

I'm gonna go and play Fallout 4 now.

Ok ok I see your point, but do you mind explaining that crazy looking tiger blanket in the background?

I've been getting more CEs lately but you have to be discriminatory based on what you think will turn out well. Statues are pretty hit or miss, so I shy away from those. It's really a shame how this one turned out. They should never have changed Lara's face, that's what's at fault here!

It's pretty cold in Canada. Getting chilly as it gets close to Dec. It keeps my back warm at night. Design wise meh. Can't remember where I got it though.

Why do people buy CE's anyway? I can sort of get it when they come with a cool artbook but most of the time you just pay a huge premium and get a bunch of worthless trinkets.
Only time I buy CEs are when they have a real Steelbook as they just look nice on a shelf. Otherwise, I skip them completely.

Was just gonna post this

I managed to get that edition for 19.99 brand new last week and the statue is great.

Yup, the Injustice statue was great too - MKX and Injustice are the only statues I have displayed at home but the quality from both is obvious.

CE's are a fucking con 99% of the time. Just don't do it. If you gotta have a figure, just buy the game and spend the cash on a separate, high-quality figure.

I was either going to get this or Xenoblade Chronicles X's CE and based on these images, I'm glad I opted not to get this. I loved the CE of the 2013 reboot, but this is just a mess.. Thank you for the post.

You should have seen the FFXIV: Heavensward CE and the shitty cheap plastic dragon statue it came with.

I'm never giving Square-Enix a dime for a CE ever again. Fuck 'em.

I thought the Heavensward CE was good. The dragon looks a billion times better than OP's Lara and the box is designed quite nicely and the book is is high quality as well.

I can't say that I'm surprised. Collector's Editions are a rip-off 99.9% of the time and I'm of the opinion that people are throwing their money away when they buy them.

I used to do this when I collected DVDs. I'd buy or ask my parents to help me buy each new version of a movie because I needed the best of the best. It was stupid and bullshit, and I feel horrible about the thousands I WASTED. It makes me sad, feels awful, keeps me up sometimes.

Like others have said, companies are in it for a profit. They're not going to sell you insanely good statues alongside games for $150. Most of the crap that comes with them is just that: crap. Dust collecting garbage.

None of these sets are that limited either, outside of the odd one. Most can be found at Best Buy on clearance a year later.

Don't waste your money. You can buy two games for the price of one of these sets, if not three. If it's a really well made set then sure, but those are a rarity. Once the attraction to the extras goes away and you see them close up/they become dust collectors, it becomes pointless clutter.

This is why i NEVER buy CE's with statues. Got burned on the bioshock big daddy, NEVER bought a statue CE again. they're almost always trash, except that Gravity Daze one will be ok because it's being made by a reputable company.

It's quite ironic that CE statues/figures are of bad quality most of the time, yet it's audience cares greatly for visual quality.
CE statue/figure quantities just don't allow for higher quality production I guess, unless they mark up the price considerably.
I think quality will be much better when we can finally move away from traditional production and 3D printing improves & allows for large production numbers.

I bought it, thought the presentation of it was rad. Not sure what you expected after the unboxing video. I am pleased. Took my figure to my work cubicle.

Your actually happy with the quality of this CE? No wonder companies can get away with this time and time again.

I only support CE's that are at most $20 more. Anything higher and I'm like this figure better not look like I could've bought it for $10

Worse of all I paid $181.98 CAN for it.

Then when it came to my door I had to pay for importing. $35.83 at the door. Fuck me.
I covered my address.

:(

Damn. Getting dinged by customs for that turd has gotta sting. I'm trying my best not to laugh, since it's also kinda funny.

Years ago, CD/Eidos used to have a really nice community manager who would actively engage with fans on various message boards. He would've helped you out then with these kind of issues. Don't know about now.

The Order 1886 CE puts to shame these expensive crappy looking statues.

For 80$ you got all this:

How come can Sony make such detailed statue for far less than 20$ and other companies can't ? And they cost far more....
Good man. That statue was done really well.

The Type-0 HD CE was really nice, SE did a good job with that one. Great steelbook, large harcover color art book, the prequel manga was cool, plus the ost selection and ace's cards were good quality. No statue or anything but I thought it was worth it (actually, they're still selling them on SE's site and Amazon, in addition to the "day one" copies, lol). I think it's really statues that are the biggest flops of CEs, followed by physical items. Books/CDs/Blu-rays/steelbooks are things that should always be pretty good. The fact that the TR CE had a bad steelbook, well, that's just shit.

Of course we can laugh about it, but I feel with you, OP. This is just upsetting.

I rarely buy the expensive collector's editions. I got the Iota plushie Tearaway Unfolded. It was a bit smaller than I expected but it's hard to fail with a plushie.

Yeah, always skip CE's with figures. They're nothing but cheap trash at least 99% of the time. Get the normal game and spend some money on a decent figure if you want that.

That being said, the CE for Final Fantasy Explorers is looking quite nice so I might get that. Wether it will be worth it or not all depends on the quality of the artbook though, so we'll see :)

That's not Steelbook. That's Metal Pack.

Notice that the front and back cover are connected to one another. That's Metal Pack design. Fucking cheap and nasty. Bamco usually use them. It's shocking to see SE use them. Normally they use proper Steelbook.

Suikoguy

I whinny my fervor lowly, for his length is not as great as those of the Hylian war stallions
I get all the talk about the terrible figure, but that necklace could not be any cheaper if they wanted it to be.

That's like little kids toy quality.

steelbooks are superior and awesome, something you really have to check on before buying videogame LE's now days as I swear some companies call their metal case a "steel book" with a space which means it can be a nasty case.

The cheap plastic disc holder inside the "steelbook" kills me. The whole thing is cheap but that one detail pushes it over the edge into basura status.
