The Houston Rockets announced Saturday that they signed James Harden to a four-year contract extension that will run through the 2022-23 season.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Brian Windhorst first reported the sides were close to finalizing a deal that would be the biggest in NBA history.

Harden, who signed a four-year, $118 million extension with the Rockets last July, became eligible for the designated player veteran extension by virtue of making the All-NBA team.

According to Wojnarowski, Harden will now earn $228 million guaranteed through the end of his contract.

Deserved. It's a multibillion dollar business. Players should get as much of it as they can.

Honestly these numbers are so big they seem fake compared to the other insanely big numbers players have signed in the past.

But he's still a top 5 player in the league. This contract is deserved.

More importantly, it's not like Houston can just drop him in favor of one of the 3-4 guys above him. When your get a player like Harden you have to do whatever you can to keep him. Franchise players dont grow on trees.

Absolutely. Rockets should be in the mix for the next couple of years, especially if the rumors are true and they get Melo too.

Why'd they redo the contract if he just resigned last July?

Still fucking mind-blowing thinking about the fact that OKC had him, Westbrook and Durant at one point.

Harden bombing the fuck out in the Finals is probably what did it. I don't think he would've gotten as elite as he was in OKC either

I still remember the $252 million dollar 10 year contract Alex Rodriguez got from the Texas Rangers in 2001

That's still the most mind boggling sports contract ever considering the time. ARod was making $100 million more than the next highest paid guy in baseball.

Yes! Im all for the players getting a larger chunk of the pie, theyre the ones generating interest and ratings, not these billionaire owners.

Wow

Makes you wonder how much the owners are making

As a whole the NBA brings in around $8 billion a year and if you were to combine all 30 teams payroll it would probably be like $3 billion. Still a lot of money left on the table for the players... so don't feel bad for the owners
