Joe Montana Football 16

I kinda mentioned this in another thread but why hasn't an indie dev created a pc game with great gameplay and a deep franchise/career mode? They wouldn't have to waste resources on licensing thats what the modding community is for.

If it can be awesome like Super Tecmo Bowl III Final Edition was, I'm in! But only if it will be on the PS3/PS4. I ain't messing with no mobile game. XD

Anyone like grains of salt, and taking things with them?

I'm sorry, but I can't sit by and watch this any longer.

I love and respect a number of people working on this game and having met the man and hung around him a number of times I have a profound respect for Mr. Montana. He's just a great person. But I disagree with how they're dealing with the public and how they plan to continue to do so. You just have no idea how long they're planning to drag even basic info out.

I'm not on the team and I'm not under an NDA so I'm not under any obligation to keep anything I know a secret. There are some things going on that gamers need to know about now, and the way they've planned to do these things just isn't reasonable. What I'm about to tell you are things they literally only plan to tell you about 3-4 weeks before release and I'm sorry, you don't deserve to be strung along like that.

I know you won't believe me, but I can assure you this is accurate, and in time you will see these truths unfold. I feel you need to know so you can prepare as a gamer (save up money, make arrangements and plans, etc).

- First and foremost, this game will be for XBOX One and PC only. This is why they haven't mentioned platforms. They're taking early advantage of the Windows 10 cross-plat tech and the game will be out as part of 10's 3-month launch cycle in the middle of this year.

So now that you know, you can make plans to purchase an XBOX One or Windows 10 if you don't have one of them already.

- The game is called Joe Montana NFL Football 16. This is an NFL game. First-party stipulations that the NFL has always left open & the NFL's exclusive relationship with Microsoft allows for Microsoft to have an NFL game. Microsoft Studios is the publisher. Microsoft is deadly serious about gaining ground and winning the console war (doubtful to happen at this point though) and throwing tons of money at incubation and trying to buy new IP that they can turn into big series' titles is top priority for them right now. They believe this game can be many times bigger than MLB The Show due to the larger NFL fanbase, and because so many XBOX One owners identify as serious NFL fans.

- The game was demoed and it went well. Actually, "well" is an understatement. People went crazy. NDA's were and still are in place for them. That's why you haven't heard anyone saying anything, but a lot of people are having a very hard time because what they seen was unbelievable and it's been impossible to go back to Madden or even take Madden seriously after that. It's like, how you felt when you had an NES and you saw Sega Genesis for the first time. The step up in quality is THAT big.

- They put those things up on artforgames in hopes that you would find it, especially the NFL stuff. It took a little longer than initially thought, but you found them eventually, and when they saw you found it they took it all down just as they did when they realized people found their job posting last year. They already had their team in place, the posting was a bone. All of this has been staged well.

- They're not asking for ideas because it's an NFL game and they don't feel there is a lot of room for the type of creativity you'd need in an unlicensed game. When they first started out before iMFL they were considering a non-NFL licensed game and were going to approach dealing with the community differently with polls, a message board, etc. but things changed once NFL was confirmed.

- 2K is involved. Should be obvious from some tweets/re-tweets and comments both Joe Montana and Damon Grow have made. Some tech and manpower was purchased from 2K and is deeply incorporated into this game.

- The franchise mode will be able to be managed on mobile devices and it's really deep.

- The iMFL app was never meant to be released. Its entire production was a prototyping run for its franchise mode and management system with the intent of using it in Joe Montana NFL Football 16. Even the TechCrunch interview was part of the staging. It was brilliant. Everybody bought the staging. So, don't wait for that app, it's never coming.

- There are a few important modes. One is a story mode and it's pretty cool. Think NBA 2K My Player. That's what you're getting.

-The graphics, animations and AI are all obscenely good and modern. It looks like a game that was built for this new generation, not just a port over from last generation with a ton of sloppy tweaks. The animations are easily the most crisp of any sports game ever made. Comparing the animations to Madden, it's going make Madden look like a PS1 game by comparison. This is going to be embarrassing for EA Tiburon, like The Show Vs MLB 2K and NBA 2K vs NBA Live embarrassing.

- Expect Joe Montana NFL Football 16 out in Mid-late July.

I apologize to the team making this game and to Mr. Montana, but I feel that with just 4 months until release and a reveal schedule that really just strings everybody along unnecessarily, it was only right to tell people the truth so they can be prepared with enough time to act. Again, I'm deeply sorry but I know I'm doing the right thing.

Because it won't sell.

People don't want a football game, they want an NFL (or NCAA when those were made).

The lack of an NFL shield will kill a football game before it even has a chance, no matter how good it is.

One great memory of Joe Montana football on Genesis which I borrowed from a friend while I had John Madden 92 (which was better in every way) was that the play would be completely different on replay. Run for an 85 yard touchdown (easy to do as the AI did not take any angles and you could literally just run around in circles for minutes) and then watch the replay only to see the replay show a tackle for a loss.

Bring this back too

Best baseball game I ever played.

Yup.I replay this game every now and then with the golden era blue jays. Love it.

Also I pull the first baseman off the bag and then throw to first multiple times to hear the announcer yell "off the wall!"

That leak sounds amazing, and parts of it are plausible, but I'm still gonna go with "fake." 2k publishing through MS is weird enough, but the whole "I'm not under NDA, and I'm telling you guys this because you deserve to know" stuff sounds fake AF. Like, "one weird trick" fake.

Would be so glad to be wrong, though. EA needs some competition in the worst way.

Surely this bit should be easy enough to check right?

The whole thing just sounds like someone fucking with xbox fans

I guess this would be MSs big E3 announcement.

If 2k is involved I'm already expecting the complete decimation of Madden. It'll boost sales in the US by a few 100k but nothing to push it over the PS4.

I wish the NFL license was open to everyone, it's NFL Gameday, NFL 2k, etc.

I wouldn't doubt it, but damn if any genre needs an overhaul it's the sports genre.

For real. Two console generations ago there was a flood of sports games.

Football Then : Madden, NFL 2K, NFL Gameday, NCAA Football, NFL Street, Blitz, Backyard Football.

Now: Madden

Basketball Then: NBA Live, NBA 2K, Sony's NBA, College Hoops, NCAA March Madness, NBA street, Backyard Basketball

Now: 2K, NBA Live (sort of)

Baseball Then: MVP Baseball, MLB The Show, MLB 2K, MLB Slugfest, MLB High Heat, All Star Baseball, Backyard Baseball, Home Run Kings

Now: MLB The Show

On the one hand this sounds amazing, on the other this sounds like somebody's fanfiction. Really hoping it's real since I love football but really haven't been able to get into Madden lately.

Come on you guys. No way MS would stomp all over EA's toes like this.

I didn't believe the update until-

Microsoft is deadly serious about gaining ground and winning the console war (doubtful to happen at this point though) and throwing tons of money at incubation and trying to buy new IP that they can turn into big series' titles is top priority for them right now.

Not that this game will change anything but this goes along with what Michael Pachter was saying. Good luck i guess. Generation has been decided. Don't know how they're going to make up a sales gap as big as it is now.

I find it very difficult to believe MS will risk pissing EA off, among other things.

But MS have said that they have a couple of unannounced games coming after SoD YOSE but before the holidays so... this would potentially fit in with that.

What's the risk in pissing EA off though? Do you really think that EA will stop selling their games on Xbox out of spite? I mean sure PS4 is selling better but I still don't see EA willingly shrinking their market by 10 million console owners.

"We're getting crushed in Europe and Asia and need to do something fast. Let's make an NFL game!"

MS have Madden marketing (it could be ending, though), im sure EA would prefer not to have a competitor in that market. From Microsofts point of view im not sure I would risk that Madden partnership if their game ends up being a bomb (critically/commercially)

Perhaps if that guy is right and this MS thing is very good, EA will feel like they've been shown up? Lets not forget the lengths MS went to in order to get EA on XBL in the first place.

EA obviously wont pull it from Xbox but I cant see it doing their relationship any good, either.

"We're getting crushed in Europe and Asia and need to do something fast. Let's make an NFL game!"

Presumably their plan for Europe and Asia will be something to do with the new IPs it mentions? Well Europe anyway, Asia dead.

EA doesn't have to stop making an Xbox One game, but if they swapped their marketing to PS4 that would be a huge freaking deal, and a very bad thing for Microsoft.

EDIT: To clarify since it was not clear, I didn't just mean Madden Marketing either. Microsoft gets a lot of advertising from EA, and like it or not EA has a lot of big games.

I remember playing one of the Joe Montana football games on Genesis...that game was HILARIOUS.

If you knew the Opponent would run the ball.....you Could do a Punt Block and the runner would get destroyed...

if you had a fast enough running back....you Could run backwards all the way up the top side of the field and the whole defense would chase you...then you could cut down to the bottom of the field and make a U turn towards their endzone and score as the defense just follows right behind you instead of cutting off your path....I use to abuse that shit all the time. It was hilarious.

Not a chance that the leak is true. Microsoft as the publisher? Do you really think they'd risk pissing off EA by introducing a competitor to Madden?

Maybe, just maybe, EA deciding to make Titanfall 2 multiplatform and possibly making the PS4 the lead console--due to install base--for Madden next year, made them decide to reboot the Joe Montana series. Doesn't Microsoft have a partnership with the NFL, could it be out of the realm of possibility that they were able to sideload NFL rights to a game of their own somehow?

The forum post with the details mentions a first-party bypass of the license stuff. MS have that $500m deal with the NFL so its not outside of the realm of possibility...

It will either be a brilliant or stupid move.
